I’m not sure Tatum was out-coached as far as Xs and Os. I do think Tatum made a mistake playing OB. They were in a bad situation either way though because no one else on the sideline could run the offense the way he did. He was a true game changer. As far as being overrated I don’t agree. If Tatum had a healthy OB I would not have been at all surprised to see them give Malakoff a heck of a game and possibly even played for a title. I’m not saying it would have happened but it wouldn’t have surprised me. Anyone who didn’t see that kid play shouldn’t really have an opinion. He changed their entire offense. Once he lost his ability to make plays Tatum lost half of their playbook. He would force defenses to come up when he scrambled to stop him and then he would throw it over the top of them to an open receiver. Gladewater beat Tatum but his injury was a major factor.

I know this is a fact, one of the first things a good HC looking at another school to maybe relocate looks at is enrollment numbers. Had several coaches repeat that. Another thing sometimes schools get good transfers or move-ins simply because they want to be a part of that paticular program. Success brings rewards.

Name a “recruit” (move-in) for Carthage or Henderson? I guess there are some, but I don’t remember any making a big impact. Most of the top playmakers for Carthage last couple years had parents that graduated from CHS. I can’t really speak for Henderson. But I would guess the same. I don’t agree with the post from Kilgore posters. With Kilgore’s enrollment they should be playing deep every year and winning 9-10 games at a minimum. Henderson has won 11 games 3 times in the last 5 years. Should’ve won state in 16’ if not for Surratt and Ingram. Whether it’s coaching or the offense they run it’s something. All 3 schools should be equal when it comes to talent. So there is something to it. I’m for sure not saying Wood is on the hot seat, but I would say Kilgore has underachieved after dropping down to 4a (old 3a) other than the first 2 years. 12’ and 13’ should be the expectation in Kilgore in my opinion.

I think the concern from some on here is EF's physicality. And they have a point to an extent and I agree with them somewhat. But I think EF can hang this year and be a dark horse candidate. They return quite a few skill people. Their o line will be young and inexperienced for the most part. Will be replacing 3 starters on the line. QB will be returning. He is a good athlete and can play the position pretty well. If they can cut down on the int's, tipped pass int's, and dropped passes that will help out an already strong offensive unit. EF will be Junior and Sophomore heavy this year. From my standpoint, I have 2 concerns going into this year for EF. One concern I have with EF vs other teams is the team speed. EF will have a handful of kids that can run, but overall they won't be as fast as most teams they play in my opinion. The main concern for me is defense. Last year that was the Achilles heal of the EF season. And they will be replacing kids at each level of the defense. They will return most of the defensive backfield, but lost quite a few from the d line. If they can fix the defensive performances from last year, they improve their record by 2-3 regular season wins and at least 1 playoff win.

adding Hunter Pence was a huge move... and I honestly thought the move was only to sell tickets. I did some research and the Rangers have a batter in the top 10 in the AL in every batting statistic except SLG, OPS, and Triples. Clearly overachieving, but if the Rangers are going to lure someone here at the deadline, it needs to be another SP that will hold up for the years to come. They don't have to be a superstar, but anyone that can hold in the low 4s ERA and give us quality starts in at least 65% of our games would make the Rangers a dangerous team for the years to come. JD is worth every penny...
