  1. I will say that I have been pulling for Alto all year, and will continue to do so if they beat my rams this week . I know you guys have had a tough year and it does the soul good to see kids have success in the odds of the events they were presented with this year . Joe had some pretty significant river flooding a few years ago and understand the strain it can put on a community.

  2. Definitely a finesse team. Not interested in being physical. Don’t like to run the ball. Don’t like to run to the ball on defense. Pretty soft team overall actually.

  3. Got these photos of interceptions in the Jefferson vs West Rusk and Normangee vs Hawkins Bi-District games this week...

  4. This team has regressed offensively and on special teams, two areas where Herman is supposedly heavily involved. The defense definitely struggled throughout the season and cost Texas vs LSU and OU. The losses to TCU and ISU, as well as close win vs KST are on the offense. The biggest reason I came into this season with high expectations was because the offense should’ve become more explosive, as they returned everyone except LJH, and the Big 12 doesn’t have a truly elite team this year. I knew the defense would struggle replacing 8 starters but as we saw last week/yesterday, once they got their starters back they have improved. Herman completely wasted his year 3 and now he’s going to be forced to go into year 4 with some first year staff members. I think Herman can be a good CEO type head coach but will he be willing to let an outsider run his offense? Herman will leave year 3 with the same questions that Ed O did last year, can Herman find his Joe Brady at OC?

  5. I actually think they can pull off the upset because Waco really don’t have much of a passing game. Also think SH passing game will give them som fits

  6. From a poster on Inside Texas, I think this sums up exactly what the immediate future looks like for Herman and Texas. Tom has not grown much on the job at Texas. And now, just one year after winning the Sugar Bowl in his second season, his own failure to to do so has brought an existential crisis to his doorstep. My take? He going to get one chance this off-season to fix his staff. If he chooses poorly, he’s done at Texas. It’s as simple as that. What makes this dilemma particularly precarious for Tom is that addressing his issues most effectively and comprehensively will require a deep re-evaluation of what he believes about his own abilities and a very painful and public humbling of himself by implicitly acknowledging and explicitly correcting those mistakes.Based on what we know about Tom, we can surmise that humility and introspection are not his strong suits. Therefore, I expect more incrementalism this off-season vs the bold action needed. But I could be underestimating him or at least the pressure there will be on him not to engage in half-measures.I believe Tom’s in a very dangerous spot, much more so than Mack in 2003. Mack was extremely savvy politically and curated his own powerful coalition of backers with which he could resist his critics and call bluffs.Tom by contrast has a Mackovickian level of support among boosters and administrators. He’s aloof, arrogant and unlikable. He had some powerful backers at the time of his hiring and I don’t believe he’s cultivated that support particularly well. What’s worse, CDC is extremely good at his job and has the booster community fully invested in Texas football for the first time in over a decade. Everyone has just stroked large checks to support football infrastructure and now Tom can’t even produce a Big 12 conference contender in his third year with all his own guys and a top 3 all-time UT quarterback. This off-season will be the most interesting one in a very long time and my contention is that Tom is one move away from check-mating himself. Alternatively, he could pull a James Franklin, hire the right guys and elevate his program to perpetual top ten status. We’ll know either way soon enough.

  7. Whether you play cupcakes or not, if you really knew football you'd be able to tell the difference of a team with "false hope" and one that is athletic across the board and fundamentally sound.

  8. Perhaps this will be the best defense Tall has seen all year and things won’t be quite so easy for them......

  9. Told them guys Louvier would get it right. Didn’t think they’d have this much success year one though.

  10. A little off topic but: It is crazy to me to see Alto and Band mention as an advantage. I love that we have a great band but it is so difficult sometimes thinking of Alto as a band school. I know times change but 10+ years ago you wouldn’t have even thought Alto had a band since the early 90’s. Lol. I mean my senior year there may have been 30 kids in the band and TBH they weren’t very good. I love watching the halftime show now and if you are like why go look them up on YouTube.

  11. Riley got rid of the “cuteness” In his offense in the 2nd half, put a body on a body and imposed their will. When you are the better team, simple stuff can win games.

  12. No, I read them, and I can comprehend far beyond your third grade reading material of your counterpart. You see, I look far past opinions, but search for facts. That's something that you fail to do. A slant of opinion does not make someones statement or article a fact. I read many articles that aren't up for consumption of the masses. I desire true journalistic integrity. That's something that you fail to see , with your blinders on. While I do not like President Trump as a person, you have to come to the realization that he is not a racist, nor is he a white nationalist. He simply desires to uphold our immigration laws, that you despise due to your views. You simply think that all people can come and go freely to America. I am an American that accepts all immigrants regardless of their race to America if they are vetted properly. I love America, but to accept every asylum seeker based on many fabricated stories of harm and abuse in their native lands isn't the right way, especially when they claim they are only seeking employment. That in itself should make you think, why aren't these people building up their own countries that they are blatantly proud of. Evidently they have the hunger and desire to live a better life, yet they can't move away from their spouses that they say have abused them ? They tag along their children to flee from their homes, and subject them to cruel conditions in their travels, yet they can't move 100 miles or further away ? Think for a moment, what would you do ? Move to a foreign land that have immigration laws that have to be upheld, or would you start your life over again in a country that you loved so dearly that you would wave it's flag on a foreign countries soil. I assure you that if I ever decided to leave America, that I would embrace my new countries laws, and their way of life. Sure, I would have a fondness for America, but she would be like an ex-wife or girlfriend. I don't have that proclivitiy. I love America, and I love our country. I simply don't see how "open borders" makes America better as you do. You see it as white pride or patriotism, well I'm proud of my country. I love this land, and I know that it is inclusive to those that desire to be truly Americans regardless of color. As I've always said, become a part of the melting pot, and not a melding pot. If your ideas are simply to be destructive, and not conductive then they shouldn't be allowed to immigrate to the United States. Do you see the difference ? Or do you simply buy into the lines and thinking of those that say immigration laws are racists towards people of color.

  13. My side is, I'm and Eagle fan! But if there is problems, fix them. If there is problems in the company you work for, find out the root cause of the problems, and fix it, and make your company more profitable and productive. Same with your political affiliation, nobody's perfect but everyone can improve. Same applies here. You may not agree with my analogy, and, I may not agree with yours. I'm going to state my opinion and that doesn't make me ignorant, as you say. It likely say more about you, than me. I don't kiss any coach or politician or any one elses rear. If anyone that goes to Newton's games, and keeps up with Newton football can't see that, Newton isn't playing at their potential, it's just because you don't want to see it, and willing to accept that issue. I Love Newton Texas! I Love people there! I'm passionate about football. But, if I see a problem I voice my opinion. That's the beauty of living in this great Nation.

  15. EF’s defense the last 3 or 4 weeks has done enough to give the team a chance to win. They get enough stops during the game to flip the momentum. Even though Hemphill scored 50, EF’s defense turned them over on downs 2 or 3 times, forced a punt 2 or 3 times, and forced 2 or 3 turnovers. The defense has made a lot of improvements. I think it’s a combination of the coach that took over the defense and the kids gelling. They don’t have to be and are not 83 Daingerfield’s defense, they just need to keep getting those 5 stops a game to give their offense a chance.

  16. Well, one major problem last night is the play calling on 3rd and/or 4th and short. We run QB power every time and refuse to actually run the running backs. I mean, good God, everyone in college football and watching college football knows on short yardage downs UT is going use the RB as an extra blocker for Sam to run it. It does not work anymore, quit doing it! If you just have to run Sam at least fake a handoff to a running back and bootleg Ehlinger out with the ball and have a short route for a TE and a deeper pass option for Duv also giving Sam the option to run it IN SPACE! Good grief, it’s not that hard!

  18. Yeah, it's precisely that "cuteness" that is preventing him from being a truly great coach. Sometimes the most "genius" thing to do is just run the damn ball between the tackles. Especially when you're the better team.

  20. #5 is going to be fine he has been nursing a ankle sprain all season, game was never in doubt last night so he just didn’t play anymore. But that kid is on a mission this is his final season to wear the orange and white and he is trying to make it last as long as he can and not many 3A teams if any can stop him just need the DEF to show up and help out and let #5 do his thing. And if you load the box to stop him then #8 is going to pick you apart just ask Hemphill.

  21. My season is over. I’m not going to sell off assets, because it just creates drama... but my team sucks

  22. The team overall seems to have less fire and desire this year. If Texas has to play the BU team that played the first half of last night’s game against OU it’ll quickly be 5 losses. Then you have Tech and a bowl game. THIS TEAM CAN VERY QUICKLY LOOK TO HAVE REGRESSED IN THE W/L COLUMN TOO, Wetsu.

  23. Regressed? Didn’t they lose 4 games last year as well? And they won a few games close as well. I wouldn’t say they have regressed much. I just think the Georgia win had everyone having unrealistic expectations about what this team is.

  24. Super frustrating the defense played a good game and the offense went back to the Strong/Swoopes years. Iowa State is a quality team, but that is a team UT should defeat by 17 points or more. The TCU loss was pitiful too. Defense was way banged up against TCU, but Sam had 4 interceptions, can’t happen. Losing to LSU and OU this year in pretty good games, I can understand that, but these other two losses should not have happened this year. UT has regressed.

  25. That is ridiculous for both teams. One hand you are tradionally subpar program you should get a few decent wins to get you going for District. The playoffs teams have no buisness playing them either. I wonder if they got the right coach they could at least be competitive. I hear the program lacks support so maybe Nick Saban couldn't save them. The losing mentality is difficult to break, but not impossible.

  26. So the 2 issues that have plagued This Lobo team THIS year has been penalties and drops. Penalties tend to fluctuate depending on the location, circumstances, officiating crews, and the testosterone of young men. Drops however seem like a fixable issue (quit playing the same young man who has a guaranteed drop or 2 every game). While the penalties and drops didn't kill us against temple, it will get us beat by better teams with a defense (vandergrift, KC, Westfield, etc). I think 21 is a stud as far as metrics, but i have never seen a wr get SO many chances. He has to have had at least 12 to 15 drops this season. It's just frustrating because this lobo team has only really scratched the surface of its its offensive potential. Rant over from an 09 lobo grad that is beyond thankful for the young men we have ( and i mean all of them, kearbey has superstar potential)

  34. Idk if I can stress it enough, Alto is not any where the program it was 2 and 3 years ago.....completely different atmosphere...mentality is 100 percent changed....complacency is the perfect word for what it had gotten too....these kids were young ours and yalls.....Us fans remember it....I doubt these players do.....Our coaches dang sure don’t cause they weren’t here....so y’all took the old regime to the woodshed yes.....so don’t come into this thinking this is the same......

  35. Joaquin hasn’t done anything worthy enough of us considering them a rival. They’re more like a taliban fighter who shot in the air a thousand times and accidentally hit a fighter jet a couple of times. But the jet has circled back now. Bout to let a couple big missles go to send em back to their fox holes to regroup and film propoganda videos and such. You wanna see a rivalry game, week 3 against Groveton would be just that.

  36. I can remember far enough back on here when ram fans were talking non-stop how y'all were going to "pound the rock" on Alto with Gandy and Perminter back in 07' only to look up and see 35/42-0 @ half averaging less than 2 yards a carry. Following year was a little closer but same result.

  37. Think we did the best we could do under the circumstances. Don’t take long for us to catch on though. We won’t be exiting Friday night by the way. Well, we do gotta get back on 69 North for a lil stretch to drive this dub back home. But that’s about it.

  39. I'm a world traveler, and I'm very proud of Newton, I brag on my little town all the time. Most people probably really don't want to hear it, or really can't understand what a great place Newton is, or the special bond the people have there between each other. Maybe if you haven't visited other places or spent extensive time in other places, maybe even you or someone who never lived outside of East Texas know what a special place it is. But I'm very proud of Newton and our football program. I often recommend people to read between the white lines. It's our story as well, not just W.T's. I'm certain he would agree with that. My pride runs deep in the roots of Newton Texas and all the people there. All of them. But I'm just stating my opinion on the current state of affairs of our team. Constructive criticism. Some times it hurts to be criticized. We've all felt that sting. If not, it's because you've never been challenged and that makes you and underachiever. I respect you my brother, and everyone on the coaching staff.
