  1. Lobos: Last night was a hard loss. I, for one, was in shock after the game, and I'm sure some still are today. But I want to focus on what this team has accomplished. We've witnessed something most of us have wondered for years if we ever would. We saw this team own the states longest winning streak, at 27 games! We saw countless records set over the last few seasons. Even more, we saw our Lobos (most of us in person) bring home a State Championship!! The pride and excitement we have all experienced the last few years, has been amazing! We have a saying in Longview...'Once a Lobo, ALWAYS a Lobo'. I could not be more proud of what our team has accomplished, and I could not be more proud to be a Lobo!

  2. Vega is still the champ, and even though they lost to argyle earlier in the year, in a game i picked argyle to win, I said then and will say again now, if they play again I'm going with La Vega. Putting into perspective, our 2017 team, which is widely considered our best ever, only beat them by a TD in that year's semi's with a future texas longhorn toting the rock. And that was after the Dawgs had jumped on them in the first quarter and were up 21-0. That's how dangerous La Vega is.

  3. I took a couple days to gather my thoughts off the boards. I think we'll look back at this season as a missed opportunity. That goes without saying. Following up the 2018 season was never going to be easy, and outside of the first three games where we just struggled offensively, I think this group did a fantastic job. Friday's game was not good. But it still took the absolute perfect storm for us to get beat with Haynes having an off day, Meredith getting injured, Penalties, Turnovers and our defense not getting their normal pressure (I think some know why but doesn't matter at the end of the day). This season, this run, this team...this program. It's been an absolute blast the last 16 seasons. We've had our ups and downs, no doubt about it. But we've been beyond lucky to experience what we have. The group the last three years has basically set every single offensive record in our history book. Our defense this year was the best we've seen since the mid freakin 80s. Some take it for granted, no doubt. Some won't realize what we've experienced until well down the road. That's their own fault that they can't recognize what we've watched and appreciate it. Longview dropping to 5A will probably be for good I'd suspect. Who knows what will have in the future, but the metro areas are just getting bigger and bigger and bigger so down we go. But I can't begin to tell you how proud I am that we got that title on the top level. I will cherish those memories for the rest of my life. It'll be a new era come next August from what I hear, on the field and off. But we'll still all be Lobos, and we'll all be wearing our green and gold. And I can't wait to see where it leads us.

  5. Transitive property doesn’t work well in football. Alto best timpson 45-0 and Joaquin best Alto. See, doesn’t work. Football is a game of matchups, playing styles and that any given Friday night issue.

  6. Well said!! You SHOULD be proud! I’m always amazed at how spoiled fans get. Enjoy the run you’ve had (havIng) Longview. Never take winning for granted. I can’t believe some of the posts I read here and on the Fox Sports SW app from some (not all) Longview fans about their coaches. Wow. I know everyone is entitled to their opinion but jeez that was ridiculous. And sad. Be proud of your team no matter what. I mean, you won a state championship last year!! Your post is spot on.

  9. Just to clarify, you think the defense that gave up 30 to Hull-Daisetta (a leading candidate for worst football team in Texas this year) will hold Joaquin to their season low? Wolfman was right. You ain’t the brightest light on the tree.

  10. I think Brownwood lions have a chance, but chance is slim, I hope they win, defense will have to play a good game in all quarters, if they play like they did against Alvarado in the second half argyle will win by 30, but play well and lions win by 7, I don't think its going to rain and I don't want the weather to decide who wins, turnovers will be a factor, lions get interceptions and not turn the ball over will get it done, good luck to both teams.

  11. The other real question is what is about to happen with Texas recruiting. They have already lost a few guys from this class, and you have to wonder how will they do in 2021 recruiting in a year where Herman will undoubtedly be on a hot seat. So basically the 2021 kids will be having to likely form a bond with new position coaches, because it’s apparent changes will have to be made, as well as deal with the possibility that none of those coaches are there when they sign because Texas probably fires Herman next year if he doesn’t win the conference. Big mess in Austin right now and could get worse before it gets better. It’s amazing how much difference 2 months makes.

  12. The shoe used to be on the other foot. Carthage has in the past always had the tougher road going through Region 3. Not do this year. It is what it is. You can call it whatever you want. We are going to hold up to our end of the bargain. Will the Eagles?

  13. Palestine/MH then Liberty Hill/Lampasas in the semis. We wouldn’t see Decatur or Springtown unless they knock off LV & Argyle.

  14. @Champ1000 I understand what you're saying. Conventional wisdom would say the Dawgs would have an easier time winning it all if they had to play brownwood instead of argyle, and I don't disagree with that. It's just that I'm of the opinion that if you want to be the best, you have to beat the best. If we get knocked out I want it to be by the eventual state champ.

  15. I been openly rooting for the Dawgs all year. It is no use arguing with simple minded folks who think they know everything.

  16. No team that only scored 21 points against the 5th team in a mediocre district in the worse Region will challenge Argyle.

  17. Picking brownwood wouldn't be based off wishful thinking, but rather argyles history of being the darlings of 4a football season after season only to continually get bounced in the playoffs.

  22. Well if you seen the signs they had I’m surprised they were allowed in the building. Very inappropriate but kudos to the refs for handling it early in the game. Nacogdoches is very good. They have the 6’9 SFA commit and several other key players from last year’s team. I look for us to run the table in our district.

  23. I’m not even though I’d argue the 40 yarder into the wind was more impressive.

  25. Man with the weather being kinda ugly come Friday, I think Palestine's rushing attack will neutralize the offense of Heritage and control the time of possession in the ball game. Also Palestine's defense has been very good as of late and I think that will continue. So.......... Im going 27-21 Palestine advancing!

  31. Jerruh is not going to allow a true head coach to do what needs to be done without interference .... not gonna happen while he is the owner/GM .... that's why the Cowboys will be hard pressed to lure a top tier head coach to Dallas .... Jerruh just can't take his hands off day to day operations ... he might as well go down on the sidelines and make it official ....

  32. Tatum wins it with an off balance desperation three at the buzzer. 54-53. Great game.

  33. This was the best 2a game I have seen played in East Texas in a while. None of that 7 on 7 touch football some schools play. Just plain old physical football. Two teams not just trying to outscore each other but actually hitting, tackling, and making them earn every yard. I want to thank you both for an entertaining Friday night.

  35. I hear you, but do appreciate what Ehlinger has brought to Texas. Ehlinger brought back the hope for good to great seasons and a toughness we’ve not had in a while. UT has obviously been knocked off its pens this season and Ehlinger has not been as dominant this year as he was last, but he is to be commended for his fight and desire and commitment to the University of Texas. Ehlinger would run through a brick wall or knock it down for UT. We all know Sam isn’t the greatest passer, but he has so much heart and love for Texas. Ehlinger is exactly what UT has needed to get up off the deck the Strong Era put Texas down to. Again, this season we took a step back, but I bet Ehlinger has one more big season in him and leads Texas to fulfill the very best of its potential next year. He’s too much of a gamer not to grab this team by its collar and drag it to some level of respectable success. THEN, we’ll see if Hudson Card can take UT back to the promised land after Ehlinger helped get it headed back in the right direction!

  41. Had a discussion with a few folks yesterday. We've seen lots of upgrades in the last few years with the football program. The new locker room is one of the best in the state. Well done, Mav Nation! Maverick Stadium has really seen a lot of upgrades in the last 2 years with the new Press Box, the video scoreboard, new stadium lights, new track, new turf..... but there's still more to be done. 1. Restrooms- This is a must. Home and visitors. 2. Concessions- See Jacksonville Tomato Bowl! Great idea! 3. Box office and gate upgrades- some wrought iron gates/fences. Box office upgrades. 4. Seat replacement- replace old bleachers. Stadium seats for sections B, C, D maybe. Or at least C. 5. Visitors locker room upgrade at the field house. 6. Construction of the covered practice facility from the legacy campaign. This spring/summer will see the replacement of all the seating at Maverick Gym. This will go with the new locker rooms, new scoreboard, and new flooring at Mav gym, which has truly become a top of the line facility. New seating will make it fantastic. Anyhow..... you talk about this stuff when your done with football before Thanksgiving....lol. BTW...the basketball is already 2-0 or 3-0. Not sure....and that's not full strength yet. Soccer, softball/baseball news will be starting soon.

  43. It’s the guy from Harleton. And it’s not a close race. They were 2-18 the last 2 years and won the district and a play offs game this year.
