  1. East Texas should be proud of both programs. They are the best in 4a division 2. I know only one will be crowned state champs. I respect both programs but my pick is Carthage over Gilmer 44-28. The best of luck and prayer for safe travels injury free. In my moral book, they are both championship programs.

  2. BTW(by the way), while we are all here and it's 2020 for the non "moral victories" crusaders out there. Yes there are such things I know for a fact because I awarded myself a nice trophy just yesterday. I am proud to say to this point of the 2020 season them JASPER DAWGS gave Carthage their closest game and scored more than any other team. (lol including the one who whipped our rear ends in the very first round) Pathetic, trivial, whatever ya want to call it yes it probably is (lol) But it's my and I like it!! C-DAWGS I wish yall nothing but the best! take care! I see yall after the start of new year.

  5. The nice thing about the Big 12 is that you already played EVERY opponent. We know who the champion should be. The title game was always a stupid idea anyways.

  6. I would rather watch Gilmer vs Carthage than OU vs Iowa State.

  7. Good luck to the Lindale Eagles...hope ya'll have a great game. Don't let the bright lights of Jerry's World distract you...play your game and give it your all.

  8. The Red&White juggernaut that is named Carthage gonna roll right into Jerry's World and complete their undefeated season by beating those pesky Horse Chestnut trees (aka Buckeyes). 30 game win streak and State Title number 8 the GREAT firmly cements Carthage's program and the title spree they have been on as one of the greatest in Texas Highschool history.

  10. So many good jokes in the Auburn cameo. They need the money for the buyout of Gus. The guy is in a Cam Newton jersey which Auburn gave bags of money too. Cam Newton was kicked out of Florida for stealing, and the guy is stealing from Florida in a Cam jersey.

  11. If they can't play the Big 12 game then they just need to name Iowa State the Champion.

  12. I hate all the posts about Art Briles “turning around the program”. Finney and that hard nosed never die group of kids before these turned around the program. My little bro was QB both years under Finney when they went two and three rounds deep. The winning culture was already established, Briles came and had a 1st round exit and a great year this year, but the ball had to bounce his way to make it as far as we did. Both great coaches

  13. This was the longest run in school history. You gonna credit Finney for that too? Finney may be a good coach but he ain’t #CAB. Talk about bringing a program from ashes see UofH , Baylor, Hamlin and Stephenville to name a few and see what all 3 have done since he left. I don’t think you can compare those two coaches, IMO.

  14. Good.....he was allowed to remain on the program after a similar incident in soccer......the whole program should suffer......

  15. Per UIL rules, kids are not allowed to transfer schools for athletic purposes. Briles didn't get any transfers. That just doesn't happen in Texas.

  16. I'm curious at the applicants here. I'm sure they'll be good but would you want to be the guy to follow Briles? And you probably aren't getting the benefit of any transfers. Back to playing with MV kids only. Not bad but some major pieces were just following the Briles train the past couple years.

  17. Just for that rudeness, I no longer think Carthage is a good football team. I think they're over rated.

  18. They don’t make 28 point field goals, do they? ( more of that sarcasm!)

  19. This is some ridiculous bs. They are only doing it for the TV revenue. I'd elect to postpone it for a few days if possible. I am pretty sure the CFB Playoff committee would work with them on this. Washington needs to play or they just need to forfeit the game. Oregon can't be crowned PAC-12 Champs without earning their spot in the game! This would put the final stamp on the NCAA 2020 clown show we've been watching...

  23. Can’t wait to watch this Dawg D play!!! One of the best defensive teams I’ve ever seen. It reminds me of the 2012 Navasota defense. Their defense was incredible that year only giving up an average of 7 PPG. That’s what this Dawg D is giving up also and that’s with trash touchdowns at the end of the game. This Dawg D is something special. They just shut good offenses down. Go Dawgs!!!!

  24. Correct. Stump led the Bux to the state championship game in his sophomore year, only to be routed by Liberty Hill in Waco. That should have been the last time Gilmer ever agreed to play in Waco (also the site of a state championship game loss in 1981), but they went to the well one more time in 2016, losing to Sweetwater in the semifinals. I don't think the game in 2008 was as close as the original poster seems to think it was. As I recall (and have verified by reading Joe Dodd's archived game account), Carthage had the game well in hand with a 31-14 lead and Gilmer rallied back to make the game look closer than it actually was. It was a bit like Gilmer's win over Graham last week except Graham couldn't rally back as well in the second half as Gilmer did at SFA that night.

  25. I don’t care how good you are 1 guy isn’t beating a good team period, and also he had to play point against Tatum bEcause they were missing three players. You think they just handing out scholarships to Kentucky smh

  26. According to a post by Shiner ISD on Facebook, the 2A schools were only given seats in the end zone. To me, that is completely wrong as I had the option to purchase hundreds of general admission tickets within the 30s for several days before the state finals were set. It appears now that the nose bleed section is the only thing available. Better than nothing, I guess. I know with 3 games and 6 teams things can get very tricky, so maybe they should have spread things out a bit more and played some games on Saturday???

  28. This was handled so severely because he was kicked off the soccer team but days after the soccer incident he wrestled in the state tournament because "he had no incidents in THAT sport" It was mishandled by campus and district administration from the jump. The other sports won't be impacted unless something else happens, but my guess is a lot of house cleaning is about to take place at that school after this

  29. I think Collins is the #2 recruit because of his skill set for his size, his length, and he jumps so well and gets off the floor so quickly. I also think it's hard for him to dominate offensively at the HS level because of his lack of strength and the limited skills of his teammates. I do think he can dominate HS games defensively. His game is definitely complemented when he is on the court with more skilled players so I believe this is part of the reason for being ranked so high.

  34. All of those fall under athletics. Head football coach is the Athletic Director, I believe, so you apply it to all sports. First issue was in soccer. Not like all the other soccer and football players deserve to be punished, but it starts at the top.

  35. Not comparing them one bit. Id take Finney every day of the week and twice on Sunday. My point was that AB walked into a culture of kids that learned how to win under Finney and made it a very easy transition for him. The state of the program and their success this year are two different things. Obviously AB should get the credit for this season cause he was the coach. The larger point was that AB walked into a program that was stable and had a mindset and culture of winning due to Finney.

  36. Finney helped bring the MV program from the ashes and back to relevance in his time there. Briles walked in to a great situation and continued what had already started under Finney. Anyone who only wants to credit AB for the current state of the program might be even more delusional than those who thought he would stay one minute past his duties on the football field.

  37. Gov. Cuomo - charged with being a despicable human being Jury of 1 - Gamewatcher63 Verdict - GUILTY Sentence - Life in servitude to every nursing home in NY to clean bed pans, scrub floors and toilets, massage the feet of every nurse, and at night writing letters to every family that had a loved one die because of his stupidity and arrogance, begging for forgiveness for putting Covid + patients in nursing homes when everyone knew what would happen.

  39. One thing I cannot stress enough about this matchup.... discipline. We have to play disciplined and keep our heads in the game. I take it back to 2008 when we played Lancaster in the playoffs...Addy McGee and a Lancaster player were actually ejected after landing a few punches on one another. Lancaster has plenty of 'talkers'....no need to react...just kill them on the scoreboard.
