Georgia had no time outs. If you run the ball they get the ball on the -20 with 40 seconds and no tos3 points

1944 my grandfather was a Senior at A&M It was during the War so both teams had a lot of 16 and 17 year olds playing. Really cool piece of history. I have a color film of the game.3 points

Ten interesting facts: 1. To win its third consecutive state championship, CHS had to right its ship after having a 31-game winning streak snapped in a big way by Chapel Hill 46-14 (Coach Scott Surratt said of his team afterward, "It was a total team effort" and losing again the next week to class 4A Nacogdoches 41-20. 2. With the realignment earlier in the year creating the District of Doom, CHS's first big district test came against another defending state champion in Gilmer. The Buckeyes scored first, but the Bulldogs scored the game's next 38 points on the way to a 38-21 win to snap Gilmer's 45-game district winning streak. 3. Rival Henderson went down to CHS 43-33 the next week, as the Bulldogs overcame a 20-7 deficit to defeat the eventual Class 3A Division 1 state champions. (The Lions won the state title despite a third-place finish in the District of Doom, as Gilmer beat them the next week 29-28.) 4. The second-round playoff win was over Canton 56-27. The Eagles came into the game with a 10-1 record and averaging 42 points a game, but their 7-0 lead didn't hold up as the Bulldogs led 42-14 at the half. 5. Dallas Madison was the third-round opponent. They entered the contest with an 11-1 record, but CHS scored 2 defensive touchdowns on the way to a 42-13 win. 6. The quarterfinal opponent was Argyle, which was undefeated. They took a 3-0 lead, but the Bulldogs then scored on 7 consecutive possessions (6TDs & a FG) on the way to a 44-27 win. 7. The semifinal game was perhaps the greatest game in CHS's football history, a 35-28 win over top-ranked Brownwood. The Bulldogs' 35-28 victory wasn't assured until the Lions' pass into the end zone from the 5-yard line was deflected by three defenders on the game's final play. The target of that pass, future Texas Longhorn Jaxon Shipley, later lamented that the three defenders covering him on his final high-school play were all future D1 players like himself - senior LB Kendall Thompson (UT), junior S Ed Pope (Texas A&M), & senior CB Jalen Claiborne (Wyoming). 8. CHS used its running game to defeat Brownwood, as senior RB Hunter Holland gained 307 yards. Coach Surratt commented later, "Our plan was to pound them, pound them, and pound them, with some play action, and I think our game plan worked great." 9. In its first state championship game at Cowboys Stadium (now called AT&T Stadium), the Bulldogs scored on an 85-yard pass on its first offensive play, a preview of things to come in a 47-22 win over Coldspring-Oakhurst. Senior QB Anthony Morgan had 392 yards passing and 6 TDs. The late Cortlyn Ware, then a senior WR/CB, had 5 catches for 176 yards and 3 TDs, and fellow senior WR Claiborne had 6 catches for 163 yards and 3 TDs. 10. Coach Surratt was named the Co-Coach of the Year in Class 3A by the Texas Sportswriters Association, along with the late Dickey Meeks, coach of Henderson, the other state champions in class 3A. Seven Bulldogs were named First Team All-State: QB Morgan (named the Class 3A Offensive Player of the Year; set many CHS single season and career passing records; played in the Texas High School Coaches Association All-Star Football Game the following summer); WR Claiborne (set many CHS single season and career records, including 103 receptions in a season); RB Holland (3rd consecutive CHS RB to be named First Team All-State); Senior OL Chad Kelly (a starter on two state-championship teams); senior DL Lovis Hall (played collegiately at Harding University in Arkansas); LB Thompson (named the Class 3A Defensive Player of the Year); and the late Cortlyn Ware (caught TD passes of 85, 39, and 32 yards in the state championship game).2 points

One thing we can all agree on... Dabo needs to learn to keep his mouth shut. Clemson was already in the playoff with their conference title, no reason to give all that bulletin board material over the last 2 weeks... Ohio st is playing with something to prove and I see Day running it up to leave no doubt.2 points

No thats not true at all. The committee alternates the best/deserving debate to fit whatever they want depending on the year.2 points

I don’t know but a lot of money changed hands on that last ND TD. That kept BAMA from covering.2 points

It is. What bama has built is ridiculous. The thing is you CANNOT beat this team by containing their playmakers. Your only chance is to win the line of scrimmage on both sides which is damn near impossible with how good they are there too...2 points

I figured Cincinnati would have a hard time getting up for the game after missing on the playoffs. Good win for Georgia but Cincinnati just looked completely unmotivated.2 points

Smith ran all over everyone. Smith would have run all over the 2020 Carthage defense too. He looked NFL ready at 18.2 points

My go to Carthage historian Gabe Brooks tells me if he had to pick one Carthage team to win a game out of all the title teams he'd pick 2008.....Dwight Smith was an alien1 point

It’s time to give the G5 teams a little respect. Cinci was a good team. In years past the ones that were disregarded were some really good teams. It’d be BS to expand to 8 and not give them an auto bid for the #6 spot. I’m tired of seeing teams like Georgia and Notre dame given the benefit of the doubt to turn around and soil the sheets instead of a solid Cinci, Memphis or Boise team from years past.1 point

I totally agree ... if that's targeting, there is no way anyone can play defense under these rules ... that was a picture perfect tackle ...1 point

Day is no saint himself when it comes to keeping his mouth shut.1 point

Agreed. I've been saying all along the bcs style worked it just needed to be 4 teams instead of 2.1 point

He did. He’s eating some crow right now. Let’s see how they respond in the second half.1 point

I think most people believed they are one of the 4 best teams. Being one of the 4 most deserving resumé wise though was a different story.1 point
-
Since when did that become the intention of the targeting rule. The rule is supposed to prevent head to head contact. That was perfect form tackling. BS call1 point

The definition of that is, No, because I know there’s fraud. I have to give him an attaboy. He could’ve just lied and said yes. At least Barry has a smidgen of integrity.1 point

I'm not in favor of Sark either. As for Kelly, he's had a lot of success at a major program, taking them to two CFP's, and a NC appearance. He also had a lot of success at Cincinnati. So why Kelly? Because a successful coach from a major college is what most have agreed Texas should target. The real question is, why would he consider it?1 point

Is that anything like the attacks on our election in 2000, or in 2016? Asking for a friend.1 point

I’d rather run the ball there, but the play call wasn’t bad. It was a good call if you’re opting to pass or even rpo. Yes, a run play is ideal and “by the binder” but they did catch Georgia off guard. The execution of that play stunk1 point

Not sure either unless it is people simply repeating what they hear and do not have an original idea or reason why he should be considered.1 point

Wonder if you read what you posted? In poker, some folks will inadvertently give away what they have. A guy might rub his nose when he has a good hand, or pat down his hair when bluffing. Those things are called “a tell”. In the article it says, “Sasse, a frequent critic of Trump”. That is not only “a tell”, but explains his bs opinion. I may not know more than Sasse, who has a Masters of Liberal Studies, but I’m not a career politician, nor is Trump. Many career politicians, of both parties, dislike Trump because he’s not one of them. I would suspect Sasse has a higher IQ than me, but he’s either speaking from bias, or is not as smart as I am. If he so easily accepts an election result that glaringly exceeds the Laws of Probability, he’s part of the problem in DC. Until/unless there’s a complete Audit in one questionable State, in my mind this election was nothing more than a third world coup. And there are probably 75 Million more Americans who agree. So a serious question Barry, why doesn’t anyone do that and confirm Biden’s victory? Would you be all for that? That’s all it would take for me, and the vast majority of those 75 Million, to say we were wrong, and it was a valid election - if that Audit did not overturn the results in that State.1 point
