  1. I agree with this. And I have this same mentality as a Texas fan. I like the Sark hire and the staff he's put together. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't optimistic, but at the same time I will not buy into the hype until I see progress on the field. Your statement isn't a jab, it's a truth that probably stings some Horn fans, but Texas has been their own worst enemy the past decade. I'm hoping this new hire will fix those issues, but only time will tell.

  2. Are you really going to make dig up all the old arguments? Lol. Dont take that personal. Nearly all fan bases are excited about their hires. I'm just saying that the guy acting like Sark is the next Saban should just slow his roll a little is all. The dude has landed like 4 recruits and not even held a practice yet and all of the sudden OU should be nervous . Texas had a future HOF coach for a decade and barely put a dent in OU's reign over the conference since the two started playing common opponents. I don't think OU needs to be nervous about anything until proven otherwise. Thats not me talking down on Texas its just me saying OU has proven itself to be immune to the hype train on new Texas coaches lately.

  3. Texas and OU supremacy of each other will always go back and forth over the years as it has historically .... just as Texas and Oklahoma will always be and have both always been the Aggie's daddy ....

  4. What gets tiring is I get on this site just to check on if some new staff hires or a new recruit and have to navigate around OU and A&M fans finding something negative to say about everyone of them. What is the point they are not coming to your school so why take the time to even worry about it.

  5. They practice their Sabbath the day (Saturday) that the Jews celebrate. They are against having the Sabbath on Sunday because the Romans moved the date and "perverted" religion. They also typically don't travel a "Sabbath's day journey" from Friday night to Saturday night and some other things. It's an interesting religion to look in to.

  6. But by the conversation wasn’t about ou/Texas. It was about Texas being average and making bad hires. I just stated it was funny that a fan of the definition of average football had the need to tell another program they were average. All of this over coaching hires. Ou did it the right way. They found the young guy, groomed him in their program and the head guy rode off into the sunset and hands him the reigns. Tell us Texas fans more about being average, we don’t really know how to handle it as well as you guys do. Hopefully we can start winning more before we get used to it.

  7. Texas fans on this board get no more excited about happenings in Austin than Aggie fans on this board do about happenings in College Station. I was initially happy with the hiring of Strong because I thought he would bring some needed discipline and work effort. I was scared to death though when his DC immediately stated how they could get whoever they wanted simply because they were at UT. Strong ended up being the deer in the headlights more times than I can count. Herman was the new "hot" coach that seemed like a frat boy to me. We seemed to play to our competition when we should have been blowing some teams out. Herman was too quick to play safe with a lead on both sides of the ball. I don't know if it will carry over to game time action, but I like the "All Gas, No Brakes" attitude that is currently going on down in Austin. I don't like running up the score, but I'm all about putting my foot on my opponents neck when I've got him down - not literally.

  8. Yep. Finally the Horns have a staff that can develop those recruits. Best staff on the 40 acres in 10 years. Get ready okie.

  9. This. Texas has been a top 5 team on paper since 2000. Only about 3 years did they actually meet expectations... OU has no reason to be "nervous" about anything until proven otherwise.

  10. WET, you keep putting words in my mouth. I never said OU should be nervous. I asked the Okie troll who seems to always want to comment in the Longhorn thread, if he was nervous. Difference from your comment of he was nervous. The Horns seem to be in his head as much as yours. Cant figure it out. Also, never said Sark was the second coming of Saban. What I did say was that he has assembled the best staff on Austin on the last 10 years. You twist my word to fit your narrative. This is a Longhorn thread, what are you expecting to see on here?

  11. He doesn't actually oppose abortion. He's pro-choice. His only claim to being R is being pro gun. That don't really cut it. He's a lib.

  12. He just wants to keep his guns and oppose abortion, but has yet to say anything good about any republican. His actions are that of a liberal. He cries that he truly isn’t but actions speaks louder than words

  13. From reading the site down south, they have a very good guard in Harvey. I believe H-H has been ranked top 15 all year. Only loss to Hardin-Jefferson.

  15. Oh yea. Tyus was part of a special class at JT. Many people had high expectations on this kid, and he lived up to them.

  16. The discussion was about Texas. I said if anybody had the right to laugh at Texas, Ou does. You, an Aggie, injecting your opinion about Texas being average or making bad hires is what I was laughing about. An Aggie, not the Aggies. You should be smart enough to get that since You seem to think you’re the smartest person in the forums. An Aggie saying Texas is average or made a bad hire is funny. An Ou fan saying either is not funny. They haven’t botched anything.

  17. Ah how insecure the wee lad is. The conversation was absolutely about Texas and ou. My comments started by addressing the guy who stated ou should be nervous. Everything that followed was not me addressing Texas and their mediocracy the last decade, but me speaking specifically about how OU has withered the storm through all of the new hire momentum and kept on winning conference titles. And yes go ahead and joke about how you don't know how to be average and get the aggy to teach you blah blah blah. Why not just grow a pair and have a conversation about your program without mentioning A&M just once. My intent is not to turn this into a A&M texas peeing match like you always do. It was to address the hype train and how it does or doesn't hurt OU.

  18. I guess they need to Arrest Stacy Abrams then, because I know that she said something that would have people believing that she told them to storm the state capitol. And since she holds NO elected position, she needs to be placed behind bars.

  19. Well.....maybe....but not in this case however. 100% support, love (as testified above), and even compensation. Coach Meeks was ready for a bigger school; that is what he has been associated with most of his life and this was a great opportunity. I don’t think there is one more thing we could’ve done to keep him. So what you said above may apply to some situations, but not this one.

  21. Yeah, Daimion Collins of Atlanta is headed to Kentucky... I’m sure I have missed a few D1s but you’re right, gotta be less than 10. Yep, Tyus was a grown man in 10th grade when I saw him for the first time in a BBall game at Jacksonville. Danny Long was still AD in Tyler and when we were taking before the game, I said “Good Lord, Danny, who is that freak?” He laughed and said that kid will play in the league some day. Correct on that call.

  22. Definitely. I didn't mean it as a knock on Meeks. If they can find someone who wants to come in and continue to build and that plans to stay a while, they could get back to being dangerous. I don't know how you can tell in an interview if a candidate plans to stay for a long time or not, but I would make it a point to try and find out.

  23. A college football fan comparing two teams is not one fan base talking down to another. Your arrogance may make it seem that way but I'm simply just talking truths about two programs that aren't mine. Do you have to be a fan of either team just to talk about head to heads?

  25. Ou fans have the right to talk down to Texas fans. Aggie fans don’t. Not sure why Aggie fans feel they have the right to. It’s rather funny being told how average you are by the fan base that has been the definition of what average is

  27. Who is to say who is an “up and comer”? How can you project future success? Hallsville got rid of Plunk because he was a .500 coach because the Board Members thought that Hallsville had better athletes than what were walking the halls. Hallsville then hired a State Championship coach who failed miserably once he sat foot in Hallsville. He is now gone and Hallsville just went winless with his replacement. At least Plunk made “use” with the football athletes he had at his disposal while at Hallsville. Perhaps Atlanta will have better athletes for football per capita than what Hallsville had and Plunk may see success. Who knows? Also, if memory serves me correctly Plunk was listed as Assistant Head Coach at Ryan. Not saying that Plunk will be a success but hiring someone that is labeled as an “up in comer” has its risks too just as projecting why someone who did not have total success at their previous stops as the head honcho.

  28. This. Texas may well have hit a home run with this hire. There is just as good a chance that it’s another dud hire that continues the cycle Texas is currently in post Mack. Let a few non conference games play out and then we can crown him

  29. No...you're wrong. This board and many others LOVED the strong hire. It was boasted as he was the hard nosed disciplinarian that Mack's entitled roster needed and that his early success recruiting florida would add an extra boost. I'm not saying that Sark can't or won't be successful. But you're acting like a 8th grade football mom over this hire... sark is FAR from proven as a HC. Don't let his work with a loaded Bama roster that would have been successful regardless who was calling plays convince you that Sark is the best hire in football history.

  30. Really? I dont remember anyone thinking much of Strong. Boy wonder had a little more hype but an unproven staff. Night and day difference from this staff. Even an Aggie should be able to see that. Its coming....

  31. That's been said with literally every hire Texas has made... Just calm down a bit and let these guys actually coach a game before we anoint them the second coming.

  33. I am sharing this message because we have one heck of a superintendent. She personifies the word “leader” and what she said could not have been put any better. Don’t come after her! She’s a hometown girl and not going anywhere. Lol She was a teacher at Alto Elementary, then middle school principal for over a decade and then the board (all men!) made the wise decision to promote her to superintendent. She has handled every curve ball thrown at her with grace, common sense, and the students’ best interest in mind. Her excellent leadership is second to none. The new athletic director will enjoy being part of her TEAM! Warning: Come ready to work! I venture to say that much of what she said about Coach Meeks below could be said of HER! Kelly West 2/26/2021: (worth the read) Not Goodbye ..... Just See You Later All aspects of the coaching profession embody a collection of excitement, challenges, surging highs, deep lows, physically and mentally demanding work, and the constant anticipation for what lies ahead. Coaches can have a profound impact on student-athletes, schools and communities in so many ways. Coach Meeks has been the true essence of leadership in his three years with us: Influencing our young student-athletes, bringing everyone together for a common cause, taking ownership of the program, and working with a purpose. He has embodied honor, integrity and professional ethics. He has served as a wonderful role model for our kids. He has been totally committed to his job and has been unconditionally loyal to those he has served. And during this past fall when wins were hard to come by, he found a way to rise above it all and stay the course. He never lost sight of the team's true purpose. Courageous coaches always have a vision of those kids who are looking for guidance, support, inspiration and a game plan for success. Those are the really important things athletes can take with them and use as long as they live. Great coaches know that the basic foundation of leadership is formed with respect and trust. Without leadership, your team doesn’t stand a chance. Eventually, it will crumble under the stress of adversity — and adversity is inevitable. Young people will follow a leader whose vision inspires them and adds meaning to their lives. Athletes look to coaches as being a difference maker. Coaches can and do make a difference in their lives. Coach Meeks, One final word of appreciation from a mother of a child who was blessed to be coached under your leadership.... You have been important in so many aspects of these young people’s lives. For some, you have been the closest, strongest, most prominent representation of a parental figure some of them will ever know. You have been the first one they come to when they need advice, counseling or a shoulder to cry on. As they grow into adulthood and hard times are facing them, they will likely call on you to give them the strength they need to see it through. And you may be the one they will forever thank for coming into their lives and providing the direction they so desperately needed. To some, you may even be the one they will say saved their life. These young athletes want, need and crave structure and discipline with compassion. They yearn for positive role models. Sure, they may not admit it now, but eventually they will. My son will always love you and this mother will always hold you in the highest of regards. We wish you years of success on the journey ahead and thank you for the love and leadership you have shown to Alto ISD!

  34. In Texas its tough to have discussion because teams rarely play a team that is more than one classification away. In Louisiana it happens all the time. I remember one yr, Haynesville (a powerhouse 1a school in Louisiana) beat 5a powerhouse West Monroe. I think that was in 1994. And there has been other wins like that across the state in recent yrs. A decent bigger school should win most of the time, but its not crazy to think a very talented smaller school could beat a bigger school every now and then. That Daingerfield team was special.
