“....overreacting to their hire.” Being excited about your new coach is not an overreaction. I would hope that every school who hires their new guy is excited. We were when Coach Meeks came. I have followed several threads and generally most are happy and enthusiastic when the decision is announced (ie Brock, Cameron Yoe, Center, Crockett, Lone Oak...not so much lol, Atlanta for the most part). Maybe we are a bit more excited because he is a hometown guy and has the respect of “the folks” before he even gets here. To address the second part: “they came out of the woodworks to talk back.” That’s what family does. When you mess with one of us, you get all of us. And honestly that may be more true for Alto than most places! Thanks for the well wishes for our team and new coach. Carry on.

This is exactly why we need to have coal fired plants and other fossil fuels for energy. Modern day appliances aren't set up as they used to be for natural gas for both heat and cooking. I realize in Colorado and Wyoming that they know better ways to keep warm than many in the south especially transplants from warm weather states and countries. If we do go green which I hope doesn't happen in my lifetime as I get older, people will need to rely on wood burning stoves and other 19th century technology to stay warm. This is something the global warming idiots failed to equate into our power sources. If there was a way to harness and store electricity, this wouldn't be a problem. That technology would have to be discovered if it can even be discovered. Even hydroelectric plants can be shut down in northern states when rivers down to streams that are used can totally freeze in some spots.

Outside of Alto I get it people can say over reaction or doesn’t think this a good hire, however if fans/parents/students are overly excited then I see that as a great thing leading into a new direction of a program. Would you rather them be against it or just don’t care????? Also IDK if u know this but football in alto is a HUGE deal so overly excited is the norm.

Program total no there are different schools in each sport that are better I.E. Carthage in football but for every sport Argyle program is on another level.

I am trying not to be to excited but it really seems like the pieces offensively have fallen into place. The talent level is sickening with their size and speed.

I've been watching the NFHS broadcasts of the girls and boys state basketball tournaments. Paid $70 for an annual subscription. Man, I am hoping the UIL is going to allow home teams to stream their home and away football games again in 2021 and not go with NHFS exclusively, i.e., not allow teams to stream their home and away games. It's NOT that it's horrible . . . but the quality of the broadcast just isn't up to par compared to what home teams can do. I have watched several really fine broadcasts -- has anyone seen Texas High? Good grief, it's like Sunday afternoon NFL. Tyler was awesome, and Pine Tree was excellent. The NFHS announcers know very little, if anything, about the teams and individuals they're broadcasting. I mean, it's the state basketball tournament. I'm not expecting Craig Way or anything but . . . again, I'm not ripping these guys, they're fine. But technically, the feeds slip / buffer so much, sound goes away sometimes, they have bad angles, the scores aren't always right, etc... they do have instant replay, which all of us who stream have that. I may just be talking to myself here but I hope the powers that be allow us to do it -- even if we have to pay a fee to the UIL, we would here in Jacksonville. @MattStepp

Mavchamp, I want to Thank You for doing such a great job of keeping up with the 5A records and information for 16-5A, 15-5A, 7-5A and 8-5A were they all apply during the year. It's a hard and thankless job sometimes. I have to also throw in Lobofan07 for the stuff he does on the football season side of things too. it's hard work and a lot of hours just to do this on a one team level. I can't imagine trying to do this for multiples of teams. Thanks again to both of you.

I really hope they settle into a strong favorite starting QB in the spring. They need to let that QB develop timing and trust with the WR group this summer. Then the future QB of the program needs to settle in on the JV or be the primary backup with dedicated playing time.

I can also appreciate this post, but will leave you with this. I don’t think anyone is/can be looking for Alto to be the “old Alto” again, no program will be what it was in these days that we are living in now. I say that confidently because I have been around TX High School football my whole life. I can assure you that discipline and hard work will be instilled because those are strong principles in my family. Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn’t work hard. When Mr. Gamble was the HC/AD at Beckville in 2015... Beckville- 49 Alto- 20 Alto was undefeated and had a lot more skill players at that time. & In some cases it can be the X’s & O’s and not the Jim’s & Joe’s. If the program depends solely on talent then there will obviously be inconsistencies year to year. My brother recognizes more than just the game. He cares about his players and cares about the program and community being successful overall.
