Ol TRUEBLUE’s thoughts: Beckville has a heckuva good football team. 9 and 2 are as a good of a backfield tandem as we’re gonna see this year. Credit them for hanging in there and not giving up when they were down 3 scores. As far as the 4th and short calls by our coaching staff, I hated the first one. The next two, you’re trying to keep your offense on the field where you can control the clock and the tempo because your defense isn’t getting stops. Apparently Gilbert and Lambo didn’t learn that playing madden. Both teams got better. It’s worth mentioning that Beckville lost this game a year ago and went on to play for a regional title. I believe they actually started 0-2. Our kids played their tails off and lost to a good football team. It happens.

I've never seen an app so widely disliked in my life. On the app in game chats every single person wants the old one back. I'm trying to give it time to see what its like when its fully upgraded but it would at least be nice to be able to see the scores. Mine steady buffering.

I’ll answer your question in two parts. First of all, mediocrity can be defined two ways. #1 is the win/ loss record. Lawson is 47-21 as a head coach, all at his alma mater, a school that, in its history has produced a grand total of ONE FCS scholarship football player, a guy that graduated from there two years before he was born. That’s a 69% winning percentage without a single FCS football player on his roster over six seasons. He could have taken an assistant coach job at one of the powerhouses in the area and picked up a ring or two, but he didn’t. He chose to come home and be an assistant under the guy he played under, even though he didn’t agree with him 100%. He respected the guy, and when the job opened up he got his chance. The second way to define mediocrity is the old “can’t beat the good teams” mantra. Ok, let’s look. His record against the blue blood programs in East Texas isn’t too shabby. San Augustine, Garrison, Alto, Corrigan-Camden, and Tenaha own a combined 8 state titles between them. Under Lawson, Joaquin is a combined 12-6 vs those programs. There’s not a lot of coaches that can claim that. As far as why do I like the guy? I admire his passion for the game and for our community. He isn’t all about wins and losses. If he was, he’d have jumped on other jobs when they came calling. (And they did come calling.) He came home to build our program into something special. Will he ever get a ring? The odds say no. But it won’t ever be because the other guy outworked him. So keep making your wisecracks. Support your team (whoever it is). I hope they get a ring. We’ll keep supporting our kids and our undersized coach. And about 66% of the time, we’ll knock off one of the blue bloods and get one of the “good coaches” run off.

A more efficient use of words would have been "We dont know what the hell we are doing, and we cant promise we ever will"

Is the "games near me" function going to be added? That was the easiest way to find scoresb of games .... Listing the scores by classification makes it too cumbersome to find the scores. On the old version, It was so easy to just click on the games near me function and select the 100 miles and get most of the East Texas scores ...

Both these two teams played their hearts out whether they were up by 16 points or down by 28. Lessons were probably learned by some growing athletes but I, as an outsider looking in, feel neither team in this contest needs to walk away shamed!

Never any doubt who would win. TH has some work to do on penalties on offense but the defense looked good for the first game. TH qb is special. They will only get better and I don't see anyone in district touching them. A win is a win, but our resident Tyler posters all predicted a win. Shows how much they know.

I agree the offense is not a well oil machine. The main thing is the newly assembled offensive lines had a bad case of the yips. Defense played a good game. After all, they have you questioning your offense. First game and honestly means nothing for both teams. What matters is what both teams do in district. Good luck.

Alright. I'm feeling myself today. Football season is finally here. I think that Atlanta has a really good shot at winning this game. Atlanta lost 16-6 last year, really struggled to find an identity throughout the season. The QB we started against Daingerfield never played at QB again after that if I'm not mistaken, and he's now one of our best wideouts. O-line has improved. Defense as a whole I believe has improved. We are missing a very valuable back, but we didn't have him last year either. I haven't seen Daingerfield, nor do I have my DC magazine here where I can see how many returning starters they have, but I bet the number is somewhere close to the same. I believe this Atlanta team is more established and versatile than last year. I think there's several elements they have this season that just weren't an option or working out for them last year. There has been speculation in the secondary, but Atlanta does have some dudes on the corners that I think can match up well against anyone. We did have 1 kid getting burned pretty bad last scrimmage against a big, fast MP wideout, but I'm sure that's been addressed. All in all I'm just ready for tonight. Gonna stop at the Wildflower Inn with my boy and grab some food before we head in to Daingerfield to get under those Friday Night Lights. Good luck Tigers, GO RABBS!

One thing you can count on is that sun from last night will be on display again next Fri right in your face! But the start time is 7:30pm so hopefully it will drop behind the press box soon enough. Looking forward to hosting the Bears.
