40th year anniversary since these two tangled to a hard fought 15-14 game for the District Championship in 83. That Mustang victory kicked off many years of football success and victories. Does history repeat itself? Mustangs by 8

It's was a tough district for sure.

We were standing around at practice in 1983 having this same conversation. Overton, Tenaha, and Union Hill all three sitting at 8-0. We all had to play each other the last 2 weeks of the season. Union Hill was sitting on a 24 game win streak because they had one state previous year. Tenaha was rolling with Tutt and McClure at RB & QB. We were coming off an 8-2 season in which we did not make the playoffs. It was the first year they started taking two teams and we finished third with that record in 82. So we're discussing the "what if" scenario when Coach Bo Talkington steps in it says "Why don't we just beat both of them and let them worry about second place?" You could have heard a pin drop. Problem solved. So we did just that. So I say to this year's Mustangs...Focus on these next two weeks. Get to the playoffs and concern yourself about who you're playing then.
