  1. Gilmer's evolution has been an interesting one to observe. It seems like all dynasties have a similar arc. When they're emerging, an infectious spirit of excitement is in the air. It encompasses the entire community and the support is overwhelming. Over time, we tend to forget how special this is and get a bit spoiled. Winning becomes a tradition, an expectation. There's less thrill found in meeting an obligation, it's more a feeling of relief than anything. It becomes a job. The excitement in the community has peaked in Gilmer. Many are hanging on to prolong the winning tradition, but the support has been dwindling for a while now. Fortunately, it doesn't really matter what we fans think. It's what's in the hearts of the young men on the field. We have a lot to learn from them. Their excitement has not peaked. If the community can stay behind the team, and not the other way around, the success will continue into perpetuity.
  2. It is history, but football fans don't have anything better to do than talk about past games and look forward to future ones. It looked to me that he stopped his fake early and turned his head looking inside just as the corner (#13) was shucking his block from the outside and hit him. That's why it was a hit in the back. I really can see how someone could consider it a cheap shot, but to me it was more laziness on #22's part. Maybe I'm viewing this through my orange and black lenses, but I'm trying to be objective about it.
  3. I can see how you might call it a cheap shot from #13, but I interpret that differently. #22 was faking the outside zone to the left side with his arms wrapped around himself as if he were carrying the ball. Due to poor technique/coaching, as he was running he stopped carrying out his fake, stood up, and looked to the inside to see the result of the play as the QB ran the ball. He ignored the fact that as a player carrying out a fake, he was drawing the attention of defenders. He did not play to the whistle and was punished for it with a hit from #13. Hence no penalty was called for the hit. I won't defend the players' reactions after the hit as they both should have handled it differently, but #13 was not in the wrong with the hit. A good coach would point all of these things out on film. Carry out your fakes. Keep your head on a swivel. Play to the whistle. Laziness during a play results in injury.
  4. 9.5 pages of people insulting each other, and .5 pages of actual football discussion.
  5. Gilmer's defense looked pretty good against Kilgore. The 1's looked especially good. If LE gets 21 it'll be because the 1's are pulled in the 3rd quarter.
