Gilmer hosts TWO 7on7 tournaments a year, one that is just to get 7,8,jv & vars some extra practice & then one that is a State Qualifier.
1. Gilmer Coaches have officiated the Azalea Tournament EVERY year.. nothing has changed.
2. The first tournament is used for extra practice before the state tournament, so if the coaches want to coach, who cares! Also.. the rules are explained EVERY year before the games start and to my knowledge, no coach has sent their teams hope because they didn't like them.
3. The State Qualifier at Gilmer has the appropriate officials and the qualifying rules are followed.
4. If you don't like the way things are done in Gilmer, quit coming back every year! From what I hear there is always a wait list for the Azalea Tournament so it won't hurt anyones feelings.
5. There is a way to do things that is appropriate. If there are concerns or ways to make something better, have your COACH email Gilmer's 7on7 coach. Don't make assumptions or be critical on a public forum.
And last but not least, 7 on 7 is supposed to be a way for kids to get better throughout the summer. Let your kids have fun with it and save the complaining till August. I like many East Texas Schools, and guess what.. 7on7 is in no way a reflection of how your kids will play in August! I'm not sure when any of them have gone on to win the state 7on7 tournament.
Ditto!

Kerry Strong
Mike Thomas
Todd Dodge
And Ed Hochules
Hope one of you guys is cottontop. Never heard of any of them, but I'm sure they will do a great job!

John Paul ll in Plano has the best turf baseball field I have seen. Gilmer played Melissa there earlier this year.
-
Curious who will be refs at Waskom's 7 on 7 tourney.
-
Gilmer won two games against Hallsville yesterday.
Really impressed with Hallsville's new school and turf practice field.
-
Gilmer was missing about 8 players with baseball and track guys.
Congrats to Gilmer's 8th grade on winning their division.

Everything is under control now that Michelle has got nutrition in schools under control. I think that has been the problem all along. Just hope she doesn't find out about all those baseball teams eating bacon flavored sunflower seeds during their baseball games. This could get ugly and set the playoffs back a few days.
(Crazier things have happened in Washington) lol

I understand, I lived in Marshall for about three years in the early 80's and I know there are a lot of really good people there. I have driven through Atlanta a few times during rush hour and it was crazy! Don't blame you for wanting to move. Good luck.We are leaving in 2 weeks for Aledo. It has been a miserable 4 years and my job was a travel position.
I was in no way bashing East Texas, but I grew up small town but that life isn't for me. Plus my wife is a PhD Health Psychologist, finding a decent paying job in ETX for both of us is next to impossible. My parents live a good life in Marshall with 7-8 successful businesses, just still not for me at this time in my life... Especially when the citizens of Marshall have a hard time paying $23 a month in taxes to build new school facilities.

I don't blame you buddy, I would have caught that midnight train to Georgia myself. Glad it's you living in Atlanta and not me, that traffic is crazy and a lot of liberals in that area. lolI live in Georgia right now... So trying to smack talk me about Marshall athletics is like peeing in the wind... You can come up with a much better idea.

Congrats to Gilmer on winning the 4A Regional Track Meet. I wonder how our relays would stack up against the mighty Marshall Mavericks 5A team?

Believe It or not, we actually had face masks when I played. LoL ... we had everybody from kids right out of HS to 50 year old geezers who thought they still had it out there. It was total chaos with many trying to impose their will and girth upon anyone dumber than them to make an example out of. In the two games I played in I think I had about 7 or 8 carries for maybe 10 yards .. no blocking and defenders trying to rip your head off .... never again. I'll just watch and laugh my #### off ....
I agree, I saw one of these games and you had guys out of high school and college playing against guys my age (55). Call me a wimp, but I think I will stick to running 100 mile races through the mountains, something you have to actually train for. lol

Lol. Thanks, I couldn't believe what was happening last night, but I applaud Kilgore for playing till the last out.Well I think it comes down to is the glass half full or half empty, but I'm going to give you a +1 on that
-
Or the first out.Sometimes that third out is hard to get.
-
Ditto!Speaking just from a boys athletics perspective. When you work your butts off (like they do in Gilmer) and the Coaching Staff does not try to hoard kids just for their sport (like in Gilmer), and when you lift year round (like they do in Gilmer, and when you have a community that totally supports the kids and coaches (like they do in Gilmer) you are going to have success program wide. What is amazing is that SO many places cannot figure that thing out when it is so stinking easy.
-
I figured if all the 3rd and 4th place teams buy playoff football shirts and saying the tradition starts now, why not tennis. lolwow...third? wtg! !!
-
Also had a boys doubles team place third at district tennis tourney.

White Joke just can't stand it! By the way you are welcome to come to Gilmer's ring ceremony on Saturday night if you don't have any other plans.let me guess...Gilmer...

Buddy got out at the right time, he was fortunate to coach girls in a time where they were the only ones playing basketball year round. Now girls all over east texas are playing and playing field has been leveled. In my opinion he would not have made a difference with the Winnsboro program the last few years. My daughters team played Winnsboro eight times during her career and went 6-2 against Buddy's teams. Winnsboro let a good coach get away, who is now at Alba Golden. I think Buddy needs to come back and see how he would compete today, but he is smarter than that. It was always fun playing Winnsboro and getting to know their fans and see how they supported the Lady Raiders. Good luck!

Chapel Hill is better than 0-7. They played Gilmer close in both games for 5 innings.
-
Gilmer has SH, Kilgore, Bullard
-
I just heard Gilmer/Chapel Hill is being played at Spring Hill tonight?
That sound correct? Start time still 6:30?
[/yes sir, SH @ 6:30

???????U want to talk about a rivalry...a great and long standing rivalry is Lobo secondary vs anybody WR! Now that's a real rivalry! Or Lobo running backs hands vs the pigskin...
I bet the WR's on that State Championship team are really torn up with this rivalry.

Depends on the goals your daughter has for basketball. If she wants to play college basketball she needs to be playing on a team that plays in showcase events during the spring and summer. That would mean traveling to Dallas would be your best bet. If she just wants to play and get better for high school there are a few of those teams around East Texas. Don't know how old your daughter is or what her goals are, but we started traveling to Dallas when my daughter was in 6th grade and it was the best thing we ever did. PM me and I can give you information on local teams and teams in DFW area. Good luck!
