Is it me or is East Texas 5A/6A football really really bad right now. Barring a few exceptions, I'm not seeing good football being played between any of these teams right now. Between District 16-17 5A especially. Nobody really knows who is going to make the playoffs, not because they are all really good. It's because they aren't good at all. Not good football games across the board.

Any other info on spring game dates? Lufkin? Texas High? Is Marshall doing spring ball? Hallsville?

Congratulations to Coach McFarlin. I would not be surprised with his lineage and background if he actually did a lot of it behind the scenes. Just hope maybe they can do well without the level of talent they had last year.

This would make more sense than someone coming back? I was hoping Randy would have gotten the Lee job this year. I'm sure his son is probably a good coach, coming from his background. He will have a really good one (his dad) to draw some knowledge from if needed. I know a lot of people are still mad he is not in W.house anymore. That change has worked out well for them, haha.

True, just like they did last year. However, last year I believe the entire district went out in the first round (maybe 1 of them made the second round). The year before that, I know Ennis won the State Champ and JT lost in the Semifinals. Pretty big difference in competition from one year to the next.

No problem. All this being said, I think historically Lindale rises and falls with the number of talented and older kids they have. (I understand this is obvious for every program). From talking to others who watched many games throughout this district over the recent history, they had a great run of athletes from approximately 07-08 years through '11 or so. They drastically dropped off until this last year where they had a large senior class that was much more talented from past years on both sides of the ball. Everyone said their QB is the HC's son and should be good for their offense but their O-line and defense will be left with many holes to fill from talented seniors who were tested in previous years. I do think their district will be weaker again like it was last year, which could help their chances.

Yes...not sure what Lindale you are referring to but there is no way 5A is considered small school...I think everyone else here is on the same page as to which Lindale we are talking about. The same ones who have played the likes of John Tyler and Lufkin for a couple years or more now? Guess since those schools are 6A now, they won't be considered small schools anymore.

Not sure what the UIL could do, but it does sound questionable.

Either way...........there is a rich heritage from both JT and LView! Unreal how many athletes come out of either one on any given year!

Yeah, my Whitehouse people said they had a lot of seniors this last year on the entire team. Thinking they may struggle this year. If HC is an offensive guy, anyone know who they are bringing in?

That is the most odd thing I have ever seen in all my life. I've been to many Tyler Lee baseball games and others around the area. If I were the coach, parent, or fan I would definitely question this guys motive.

They don't fill up the one they have now do they? Are they thinking build it and they will come?

I think Rose is by far the best in East Texas, but I would love to see them renovate the pressbox and lockerrooms.
