  1. Just a few thoughts from the old guy in Idalou. I'm sure we saw the state championship game tonight. My hats off to the Waskom team. The folks there tonight were priviledged to see what small town Texas football shold be. Two teams from 500 miles apart playing their hearts out for the school they attend. Both teams extremely well coached and prepared. Great athletes on both teams. A game where a little break here or there changes the winner. The one pass Waskcom completed was a killer, well defended but your guy came down with it. We were stopped with a first and goal at the three. We get seven instead of three, all else being equal the game would have gone into overtime. This game had five lead changes! Folks, it doesn't get any better than that! We could talk all night about what woulda, coulda ,shoulda for both teams, sure I'm dissappointed we won't be playing next week but our kids left it all on the field as did the Waskom team. This was a contest that it's a shame that there had to be a loser. Both these teams are winners extraordinaire. But one more thing, not only was this a hard hitting ballgame but it was cleanly played by both teams. Your guys helping our guys up snd vice versa and then go back and try to smash him again. One of the things that irritates this old geezer more than anything in today's athletics is the jump up after a TD or just good play and start some assinine celebration that mainly says "look at me"! Folks, I didn't see that tonight on either side. There's been some talk about class or lack thereof on this forum, but for those of us there tonight we saw real CLASS on the field tonight. It is so refreshing to see that for a change! Good luck to the Waskcom team next week. I'm dure you'll get your back to back championships!
  2. You can get the Lubbock station that carries Idalou football by going to KJAK.com.
  3. Just a thought from the semi finals in 2010. We heard the same thing from the Paul Pewitt folks back then. Any 1 of 4 backs could get the ball. I don't remember what kind of offense they ran. I think they had 4 backs with at least a 1000 yards each. They lost 17-0. Not sure we're as good defensively as we were then but close. Still picking Idalou by 7.
  4. FYI! The head coach now is Taylor's son-in-law. Many of the assistants are still there too. They will be ready!!!
  5. Thanks for one of the most interesting posts I've ever seen on one of these sites. Sounds like the two backs are statistically equal in speed. I'm sure you're right about breaking tackles being the Waskom kid's forte. Schilling's forte is making people miss. I'm like you. Hurry up Friday!
  6. Her Dad was the defensive coordinator for the 2010 team that was so dominant that championship year. He has since left Idalou fot Andrews. I would bet there have been numerous phone chats betwwen Coach Turner (current defensive coordinator) and Coach Long lately. As you must know, much of the 2010 coaching staff is still at Idalou. They've been in the types of games before. I have no doubt our kids will be ready. Staying with Idalou by 7!!!!!
  7. Just a though from an old west texas guy that has watched Idalou football for a lot of years. Nobody has come close to shutting down the Idalou running game this year. That's not to say that Waskom can't shut us down but I doubt it. More than half the season we did not have the Nichols kid due to an injury he suffered at a Kansas State camp for possible recruits. (Yes, he is a legitimate D1 prospect). So Schilling did not have him to compliment him in the backfield a lot of the time. Howard and Piseno stepped up and played extremely well and now they have all of them available. Kirkpatrick at QB is is also a threat. He is a capable passer if need be. He just hasn't been needed as a passer much so far. He is big and can generally get 5-7 yards when he keeps it. The offesive line is big and extremely well coached. Our defense runs a 4-3 and has really come on as of late. I'm not sure the defense is quite as good as the 2010 tesm, but they're close. They bend but seldom break. I still remember 5 years ago when we played Paul Pewitt, there was some of the same dismissal attitude toward the Idalou team then that is showing up on this site now I learned along time ago that never get too covky when it comes to Texas High school football, especially at playoff time. I don't expect a blowout either way. We're the underdog this week and we generally rise to the occasion when that happens. Both teams obviously have some really good players snd are both well coached i expect a really good game and will pick Idalou by 7.
