  1. Another thing I don't get....what's in it for Keel? Shepherd is his home town. From posts above, they love him there. It's not a step up in classification for him. He has to move his family (5 kids!!). The money probably isn't that much better. He had several All State Athletes in Shepherd to work with. The only All State Athlete in Rusk last year was the previous AD's son. Again, what's in it for Keel?
  2. And my point was to sackem. Why is hiring a guy that has 1 good football player a good hire? Rusk just let go of a guy who had 2 good football players. Paper said the new guy is going to run the same offense and defense Patton and his staff were running and Rusk basically switched one defensive player for another on varsity. Assuming both did/will do the most with what they had/have, how is Rusk getting better?
  3. Wrong. Previous AD was reassigned.
  4. 2 football players for 1. Sounds like a good trade.
  5. And really, if you want to talk about coaches that did well in Rusk, Upshaw has the best record by far. And you know what he got? Run out of town.
  6. Which again goes back to the argument that you win championships when you have BOTH D1 athletes and a good coach.
  7. Name any FBS signee Patton had during his EIGHT years.
  8. As far as "success" in Rusk, yes Mahffey's record was much better but he did have a better stable of athletes and a lesser level of competition. There hasn't been a FBS signee since Cody Glenn.
  9. You know, it's funny that you mention that, because Mahaffey and Patton both went to the "ship" before they came to Rusk, which would lead you to believe they are good coaches. You know what they both got in Rusk? Reassigned.
  10. You know what gets you to a "ship"? D1 athletes
  11. Coach X, if you know small towns, then you know there is always someone excited to share their inside information.
  12. Interesting that there are 7 candidates being interviewed. Typically a search firm will suggest the top 3. Wouldn't surprise me that what ever Good Ole Boy they have picked for the job was number 7 on the search firm list and they had to make sure to get him in. Could end up being a big waste of time for everyone.
  13. From the outside looking in, I think it's hard to speculate about what the problems are. Hope the new guy can work it out.
  14. I agree it's time for a change and am just trying to point out that the talent level is not what you are trying to make it out to be. We have some kids with skill, but no D1 athletes. Also, I know you are not Quinn Anthony who played at Northwestern for 3 years. I saw your picture on your Twitter pics and you are exactly who I thought you were.
  15. The skill set is not here right now, we haven't had a D1 (FBS) athlete since Cody Glenn and defense has always been a problem in Rusk. Even when we had JB Sturns we just outscored people to win games. Don't disagree that it's time for a change. Eagles 26, I don't think a semester at Bacone College counts as playing at the next level. If I remember correctly when you were a senior we were 2-8 and gave up a ton of points also.
