  1. Good talking with you. Good luck the rest of the way and we will be rooting for another State Championship. Carthage defense if a freak of nature.
  2. No there is some talent in Shepherd, but not enough to compete with these schools. We have had a decline in the talent level the last couple of years. There are years we have a good group come thru and we will get a playoff birth. Shepherd has never been a football powerhouse and more than likely will not be for some time or ever. No Shepherd has great coaches that want to win and most of the parents want to win also, but sometimes you have to be realistic. Everyone wants to win, but sometimes turning young men and women into great adults takes the front seat for us. Our coaches are some of the best there are at this, plus a few are very good football coaches. The community loves our coaches. It is what it is at this time. Shepherd turned in 531 on snapshot day up from 523 two years ago and if the bottom number moves very much at all, we will be a 3A school. Most try to keep it real down here, heck I would love for them to make a run. There are plenty of teams right around our area that can beat us or give us a very good run for the money, without a 2 1/2 hours drive. Let's be real Carthage and Shepherd are on two totally different ends of the football spectrum right now. We have a great AD that we love and he puts everything he has into our kids. We don't have Surratt and the money that he gets paid ( and it is well deserved), nor will Shepherd pay that much for an AD, not that we don't want to win, the money just isn't there.
  3. Live it up while you can, one day the tide will turn. I am not talking about with Shepherd. I am talking about being on top of the mountain. I hope you guys have a injury free game and do great things in the playoffs. Hell, the folks in Shepherd were rooting for you guys to win it all again. But sometimes it is hard with your arrogance. Any way good luck but seems like you don't need it.
  4. For the record Shepherd asked the UIL to let them out of this district two years ago, but the UIL would not let them. They know it is a no win situation, at least they are being real about it. They do not want to travel with their sub varsity teams that far on Thursday nights. It is stupid the UIL would even put that much distance in the same district. I get there is only so much the UIL can do but dang. Same with the drive to Center, Jasper, Rusk and Madisonville. So Shepherd decided to play a non district schedule with the younger teams.
  5. You should do a little more digging before you post. Shepherd does have a freshman and jv team. They just choose to not play in the district with those teams. it is a no win for both the opponents and Shepherd. plus who wants to travel 2 1/2 hours for a district game on a Thursday night.
  6. If I think what you are implying is correct. I would hope someone would give him another chance, he is a good football coach and person.
  7. What was their prediction for the bottom cut off number in 4A-II?
  8. Huntington may be on the rise (and I hope they are) but there still have a ton to prove. I could see them beating Warren and Maybe Tarkington, but Shepherd has beaten them 55-20 last year and 55-0 the year before, so I just can see them making up that much so soon. I hope they turn it around and start winning some games. Lord knows they have the size over there, they just need more speed.
  9. Mark Byrd and Jim Bird are two different people. Jim Bird is the Asst. Head Coach.
  10. I will say this again for all who didn't understand. Coach V. was and seemed to be a good football coach. I never said he wasn't. I said his time in Shepherd as the baseball coach didn't go well or end well. Shepherd has had four Head Baseball coaches in four years. Nobody has ever said Shepherd was a power house baseball program. Even with the Kolek's on the mound Shepherd didn't win a ton. I cannot speak much on Coach Butter. Most folks seemed to like him and talking X's and O's, he knew what he was talking about. This year Shepherd pretty much had a JV team playing varsity and it didn't go well either. The problem in Shepherd is you do not have many kids that can play baseball at a high level, nor do they care too. Then you have the parents and we all know how that goes. But I agree with you 100% on Livingston, Only thing I would change is it is not getting to know the all the kids and families, but getting to know the right kids and families. Anyone who know Livingston knows what I mean.
  11. I don't think the attitudes were bad, but when a few of your players had to pretty much run practice, it will never end well. That is why they are the players and there are supposed to be coaches. I know who you are speaking of and I can tell you straight out that kid did not have a bad attitude. When you are taking infield before the game and the coach cannot even hit a ball, that should tell you something.
  12. Couldn't agree more. I never said he could lead a program, well I won't give my opinion on that one. I was stating that he seemed to be a good football coach, but when he was the one in charge of the baseball program it didn't end well, let's just say.
  13. Two years ago, Coach V. Coached the Defensive Line for Shepherd and was the Head Baseball Coach. He seemed to be a good Line Coach, but I can tell you the Baseball season was a disaster.
  14. Don't really think the Man down the road wants to touch that job. Would he leave Shepherd yes for a better paying job with players. Coldspring has been a mess for years and even he has to shake his head at the things that has been going on there. Why would anyone want to leave a job that has security in, to go to a school that the supt. and board members ran off a coach that won almost all of his games. The man down the road is a smart man.
  15. Let me clarify my comments I made on page 1. I never thought he would get in this position. I know what I was told but there are three sides to this story, his side, her side and the truth. I will not pass judgment on him and before long the facts will come out. But I will say that there are many forms of physical assault, hitting is not the only one. So you can take that for what is it worth. The reason I said I think Rusk will be looking for another Ad is no matter what the outcome is, the damage is already done in the publics eye. If he is guilty then he deserves everything he gets, if he is not then you have to keep yourself out of positions that can cost you everything. The bad thing is he has two children in Rusk ISD now and they are old enough to know what is going on and they are such great kids. The talk will hurt them and that is not fair to them because they never asked for any of this. The younger ones that are still in Shepherd ISD well they can be shielded from most of it, cause they are still very young. Again the kids are the ones that are having to pay to ultimate price here. I will stand by my comments that he is a good coach and nothing has happened like this in Shepherd. I am speaking of the arrest not what he has done in his personal life, that is still between him and his wife.
