  1. Visited on phone with Alto coach Brock Grigsby Monday, I’m been impressed by the job he’s done in a very unenviable position this year and hasn’t lost a single player on the varsity. He’s done a remarkable job.
  2. PRICE - Carlisle spotted Overton a quick 3-0 lead before unleashing a blitzkrieg of 34 unanswered points in the next 9:48 en route to a 70-10 thrashing here Thursday night at Arrowhead Stadium. The big win on the Indians’ 2022 Senior Night not only keeps the Tribe’s record unblemished at 9-0, but it also clinched the 11-2A DII championship. Overton falls to 2-7. Carlisle will travel to Alto next week in the regular season finale while Overton will be at home against Tenaha. Carlisle will face next week’s winner of the Hull Daisetta/Evadale game in the first round of the playoffs. It was a night of big plays for the Indians, including two interception returns for touchdowns by Brody Eaves who also had a kickoff return for a score while adding three rushing TDs for a total of six touchdowns on the night. Eaves touched the ball only eight times, scoring on six of them. It is the first district title for the Indians since 2018. “I’m proud of the guys,” said Tribe coach Clay Baker, “that’s what I just told them. District championships are not easy to come by. We have coaches who have never been a part of one and we wanted the kids to understand how difficult it is, how big an accomplishment it is so they can enjoy it over the weekend. “The kids came ready to play, I think it’s the most energy we’ve had since the Tenaha game.” Carlisle had 464 yards total offense on 25 offensive plays, added another 194 all purpose yards on Eaves’ two interceptions and his kickoff return. With his 111 yards on the ground, 20 receiving and 194 on returns, Eaves had 325 all purpose yards. “Brody is a special player,” Baker stated. “I’m glad to have him. He didn’t have many touches, but he was all over the field, he dominated on offense, on defense and on special teams. “He had a great Senior Night just like all our seniors. “Our line really did a great job, I challenged them after last week and they took it to heart,” Baker said. “We told our defense it was time to step up, that we couldn’t be just an offensive team, and they had their best game since Tenaha.” Overton QB Bryce Still, just a sophomore, was 13 of 30 for 152 yards and a TD to run his season total to 1,651 yards and 24 touchdowns. He was under heavy pressure most of the night. Still found Isaiah Hawkins open on the right side on the first play of the game for 44 yards to the Tribe 8. Three plays later, Roberto ‘TinTin’ Camacho batted away a third down pass and the Ponies’ Christian Machado nailed a 24-yard field goal for a quick 3-0 lead. Camacho returned the kickoff 34 yards to the Overton 35 and Fernando Espinoza lofted a pass to the Mustang 5 where Trent Eaves went up and took it away from a defender strolled into the end zone for a 6-3 lead with 9:36 on the clock. After forcing a punt, Espinoza found tight end David DeLeon wide open behind the Mustang secondary and the big junior sprinted to the end zone to stretch the lead to 13-3 with 6:57 on the clock. Carlisle went 63 yards in four plays with Brody scoring on a 15-yard run with 47 seconds left in the first period for a 27-3 margin. Nine seconds later, it was 34-3 when Eaves picked off Stills and sped to the end zone with 38 seconds on the clock. Carlisle’s next venture to the end zone came courtesy of a 48-yard run by junior Clayton Hart. DeLeon’s PAT made it 41-3. Then, on the final play of the first half, Brody Eaves picked off Stills at the Carlisle 27 and made a magnificent 88-yard return where he started at the left sideline, crossed the field, then went back to the middle where he stopped, spun, came back to the left sideline and outraced everyone to the end zone for a 48-3 halftime lead. The fleet senior took the second half kickoff and went 68 yards untouched for a 55-3 lead and his fifth touchdown of the night. After the kickoff, Trent Eaves picked an Overton pass at the Carlisle 42. Brody went 40 yards on first down and, two plays later, ran it from the 16. Brody, snagged a high snap on the PAT try and raced to the end zone for a two-point conversion and a 63-3 lead with 8:57 left in the third period. Following the kickoff, Overton went 70 yards in seven plays with Stills connecting with Hawkins on a 45-yard pass-and-run for the Mustang’s only TD if the night. Carlisle recovered an onside kickoff try at its own 48, and using backups, went to Overton’s 15 where senior Chop Hernandez took a handoff and forced his way through the visitor’s defense before fumbling at the goal line where Overton recovered in the end zone. In Carlisle’s first series of the fourth period, Chucky Martinez went 28 yards up the middle only to have it called back by a holding call. On the next play, freshman Chuy Enriquez, attempting his first pass of the year, connected with senior Bobby Garza for a 45-yard YD. It was Garza’s first reception of the season to give the Indians’ their final 70-10 margin. Espinoza finished five of six for 128 yards and three touchdowns to run his season totals to 1,954 yards and 21 touchdowns. Hart had three carries for 76 yards and Trent Eaves had two catches for 33 yards and his team-leading fifth interception.
  3. Brody Eaves, Carlisle, senior, 70-10 win over Overton, running back/cornerback, scored six touchdowns on nine touches, 111 yards rushing on five carries, three touchdowns, one reception for 20 yards, two interception returns for touchdowns, 48 and 88 yards, one kickoff return for touchdown, 68 yards, 325 all purpose yards,
  4. Two of the best running backs in District 92A will be featured in what will be Mount Enterprise’s 2022 homecoming. Mount’s Kaegan Ash, just a freshman, has 1,499 yards on 164 carries thru the first seven games for a 9.1 average while Carlisle’s Brody Eaves has 1,218 yards on just 87 carries for a 14.0 average per carry. Kickoff is at 7 pm.
  5. PRICE - An explosive Carlisle offense scored three touchdowns late in the first quarter and the undefeated Tribe ran its record to 7-0 with a 49-20 decision over Cushing here Friday night. In the other two district games, Overton outslugged Mount Enterprise 47-38 while Tenaha came back from being down 36-7 with nine minutes left in the third period to down Alto 43-42. Carlisle win will travel to Mount Enterprise this week. Tenaha, Alto, Cushing and Overton are all 1-1 in district while Mount Enterprise is 0-2. Cushing took the opening kickoff and methodically drove to the Tribe one-yard line in 15 plays, taking 8:41 off the clock, before the Indian defense came up with a big play. Trent Sartain blasted through the Cushing line and knocked the ball loose from Cushing QB Eli Dawson. After a scramble for the ball, Carlisle’s Chop Hernandez fell on the pigskin at the Tribe 20. Hernandez had three fumble recoveries on the night. Sartain led Carlisle in tackles with nine and forced three fumbles. Linebackers Alan Rocha is still out with an elbow injury and Erik Garza missed the game due to illness. The duo are two of the Indians’ three leading tacklers. It took the Tribe just six plays to go 80 yards, with Fernando Espinoza hooking up with Trent Eaves from 11 yards out with 1:33 left in the first. Espinoza was six for six on the drive. “I was proud the way we bent, bent and bent on that first drive and finally found a way to make a stand,” Carlisle coach Clay Baker said. “That set the tone for the first half.” Carlisle would score twice more before the quarter ended. On the first play after the kickoff, Hernandez scooped up another Bearkat fumble and went 27 yards to paydirt to give the hosts a 14-0 lead with 1:16 on the clock. Three plays later, Cushing’s Eddie Davis coughed up the ball and Carlisle’s Cash Jones made the recovery at the Kat 32. It took just two plays before Brody Eaves raced around left end untouched to the end zone for a 21-yard touchdown on the final play of the first period and the Tribe had scored 21 points in a 1:33 span. Cushing answered with a 48-yard pass from Dawson to Bryant Moshay, but the Indians took the kickoff and using Espinoza’s arm, Brody Eaves’ speed and DeLeon’s power, went 62 yards in only four plays to boost their lead to 28-7. Espinoza hit Eaves with completions of seven and 40 yards and DeLeon had runs of 13 and two yards to cap the drive with 5:17 left in the half. Eaves, who ran for 128 yards on just nine carries, extended his season total to 1,218 yards and 19 touchdowns. The speedy senior needs just 133 yards to eclipse his total of 1,350 a year ago and 416 to tie the school record of 1,766 set by Gunner Baker in 2011. Carlisle rushed for 199 yards and added 193 in the air for 392 yards total offense, the lowest since tallying 377 in the season-opening 31-0 win over Harleton. After forcing a Cushing punt, the Tribe used a 36-yard run by Eaves to extend its lead 35-7 with 1:07 in the second period. Espinoza found Clayton Hart wide open without a Cushing defender within 10 yards for the Indians’ sixth TD of the night in the third with 4:33 left the third quarter. Espinoza finished 14 of 21 for 193 yards and two TDs. For the year, the junior signal caller is 83 of 131 for 1,556 yards and 16 touchdowns. Both coaches agreed to a running clock at that point. Against a Carlisle defense full of reserves, Cushing’s Ty Brown broke loose for a 70-yard run. The Indians recovered an onside kickoff at the Bearkat 46 and went the distance in just six plays with DeLeon scoring on a 13-yard run 22 seconds left in the game. Brown burst free on another 70-yard run to cut the final score to 49-20.
  6. Carlisle 199 yards rushing, 193 passing 392 total offense Brody Eaves nine carries, 128 yards, two touchdowns David DeLeon four carries, 54 yards, two touchdowns Fernando Espinoza 14 of 21 passing, 193 yards, two touchdowns Clayton Hart five receptions, 77 yards, one touchdown Brody Eaves four catches, 50 yards Trent Eaves, three catches, 29 yards, one touchdown Roberto Camacho, two catches, 37 yards Cushing 233 yards total offense Ty Brown, two carries, 140 yards two TDs
  7. TENAHA - It was supposed to be a titanic battle between the two pre-season favorites for the District 11-2A title here Friday night. It fell a little short of that. Carlisle accumulated 443 yards total offense while holding the Tigers to 87 en route to a 48-0 thumping in both teams’ 11-2A opener. The Indians move to a spotless 6-0 on the season while Tenaha falls to 2-4. Carlisle will host Cushing this week at Arrowhead Stadium. Cushing held off Overton 22-15 in overtime and Alto took a 46-34 decision over Mount Enterprise in the other two 11-2A games. Tenaha will host Alto Saturday night while Overton will travel to Mount Enterprise. The undefeated Indians piled up 338 yards total offense in the first half and scored on a 95-yard fumble return on the final play before halftime for an insurmountable 42-0 lead. Carlisle coach Clay Baker flooded the field with reserves most of the final half. “Our kids were ready,” Baker said after the game. “This is the one our kids have been waiting for since the first practice. As lopsided as it was, we didn’t think it would be like that.” Tribe QB Fernando Espinoza, who was eight of 12 for 211 yards to run his season totals to 1,363 yards and 14 touchdowns, found junior Clayton Hart down the left sideline for 47 yards on the first play of the game and the rout was on. Four plays later, David DeLeon scored from the three and the Tribe had put up the first points of the game with just 1:21 off the clock. DeLeon’s PAT, the first of six, gave the visitors a 7-0 margin. After holding the Tigers on downs, Espinoza hit Trent Eaves with passes of 16 and 27 yards, Hart ran for 13 before Brody Eaves outran the defense around left end from 27 yards out for a 14-0 lead with 7:08 on the clock. Tenaha could gain only a single yard before having to punt again. Espinoza found Hart for a 35-yard gain before Hart ran for 12 to the Tiger 13. On the next play, Eaves sprinted through a huge hole on the right side of the line to the end zone and a 21-0 lead. Carlisle’s next score came on a perfectly executed hook-and-ladder. Espinoza hit sophomore Robert Camacho five yards downfield, who lateraled to a sprinting Eaves in full stride. Eaves cut away from Tenaha’s Ja’Tyrian Moore and outraced the Tenaha defenders to the end zone to complete the 63-yard trick play with 10:27 left in the half for a 28-0 lead. “We practiced it for two weeks, but I honestly didn’t think we would use it,” Baker said with a smile. “I really don’t like trick plays, but I had it in my head right then. I’ve got to give credit to Brody. I looked out at him and he gave me the signal suggesting we run it and I figured what the heck, let’s do it and they executed it perfectly.” Carlisle stretched its lead to 35-0 on its next possession. Taking over at its own 26, the Tribe went the distance in just six plays, with Eaves going the final 19 yards on a sweep around right end with 2:10 on the clock. Moore picked off an Espinoza pass at the Carlisle 48 and returned it to the Indian two with only 23 seconds left before half. A gain of one put the ball at the one but that was as close as the Tigers got as Moore took off around left end before being met by a horde of Indians led by Trent Eaves and Erik Garza. Still fighting for yards, Moore was stripped by Camacho who raced 95 yards on the final play of the half for the 42-0 lead. “That was a huge play,” Baker admitted. “Their guy was swarmed.” Freshman backup QB Chuy Enriquez scored Carlisle’s only second half TD on a two-yard run with 7:12 left in the game. Brody Eaves ran for a season-low 109 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries, 99 coming in the first half, to run his season totals to 1,090 yards and 17 TDs. “We didn’t run him the second half,” Baker pointed out. “We’ve got a lot of weapons to share the ball with so you can’t key in on one guy. Clayton had a big catch on the first play of the game and he had a couple of big runs. He runs hard and tackling is something they struggle with so I thought he could have a big night.” Hart finished with 47 yards on the ground in just four carries and had two receptions for another 78 yards. He left the game after a 15-yard run late in the first half when he literally ran over Tenaha’s Brikelian Kenney in a collision in front of the Carlisle bench. The collision knocked Tenney, who was also the Tiger QB, out of the game. “Clayton should be good,” Baker said. “We decided not to take a chance since we had the game in hand.” The Indians have lost a pair of two-way starters when Zashaun Reed broke both his legs in the Mildred game and the team’s defensive leader, Alan Rocha, tore ligaments in an elbow in the same game. Both are out for the year. It was the first time the two teams had met since 2018 when Tenaha took a 38-14 playoff win in Hallsville. The swarming Carlisle defense was led by Garza and Chuckie Martinez, who each had nine tackles. They both three tackles for loss and two sacks. Six players combined for 10 sacks and the Tribe defense had 19 tackles behind the line of scrimmage. Roberto Camacho had six tackles, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries including the 95-yard TD. Cullen Thomas had eight tackles, four for a loss, one sack, four QB pressures and one recovered fumble. Trent Eaves picked off his team-high fourth interception and also had four tackles, one for a loss and a fumble recovery.
  8. Brody 15 carries, 109 yards, three TDs Clayton four carries, 47 yards Chuy seven carries, 41 yards, 1 TD Fernando eight of 12, 211 yards, 1 TD TinTin four catches 69 yards Clayton two catches, 78 yards Brody one catch, 60 yards, 1 TD
