  1. I guess, but why drastically overpay for it with Clement?
  2. For someone who hates the yankees, this is a GREAT story. I've been watching The astros wear him out for years - hell, I was at all 18 innings of the playoff game where he gave up the homer to light hitting Brad Ausmus to send the game into extra innings. Way to go Yankees!!!
  3. what's the salary trade off for Nixon/Clement for Abreu? What's in it for Philly to make that deal? I still scratch my head wondering why Boston went after Clement. I think Boston is going to have to eat some of that contract if they want to move him.
  4. I think the big deal is that if you only bet on your team to win, what does that tell the bookies when you aren't betting? Or think about this - what if he didn't bet at all on a game but agreed to influence the outcome to help settle a gambling debt. He's a cheater and if he came clean 15 years ago he'd probably get his shot at the hall. I'm sure many people here remember the interviews with him adamantly denying he bet on baseball. As for just looking at what he did on the field, why bother making any rules if ultimately you're going to acquiesce? Pete new the consequences and did it anyway. As for the steriods, it's even more detrimental to the game than gambling. Rafael Palmeiro will NEVER be in the hall. If evidence ever turned up about Mac and Bonds I'd ban them too but unfortunately it'll take more than Canseco's book. The steriod issue is 99% the owners and MLB's refusal to step in and demand drug testing from the union. They stepped aside and turned a blind eye during the Sosa/Mac home run chase. Bud Selig is the most short sighted commisioner baseball has ever had. I really enjoyed watching him squirm like a hooker in church when he testified before congress.
  5. Furcal is not a 13 million dollar a year player. He's a nice shortstop with excellent speed, but i think the Braves did the right thing letting him walk. That's a lot of money to throw at a guy who can't seem to call a cab when he's had too much to drink. Julio Lugo? Yikes!!!!
