  1. Topher805 is exactly right. The weekend is the problem. This is my 11th consecutive year and the farthest commute I've ever had is 15 minutes. It's probably the same for any other weekend though. Austin hosts so many different events. Last year was some sort of film festival, the year before that was a huge swim meet, and so on and so on. You have to book a room at least 6 months in advance. I love it being in Austin because of the close proximity of restaurants/entertainment. If it was in Dallas/Houston it would be terrible. It would lose its luster and magically feel. Plus, you would be forced to drive everywhere...just not good. It's all a moot point anyway...they will never move it.
  2. PHD...you wrote something that was interesting. Are you saying that Dallas Smith (of last year) changed their name to Wilmer Hutchins? Is this the same Dallas Smith school/team Lindale played last year in Regionals?
  3. Lindale's game plan will certainly be too slow them down. Whether they can execute that, will be the question (obviously). They slowed WO down in the warm up game to one of their lowest point totals of the year; only 60. The frontcourt is big and plays big. Lindale is such an unusual team that always seems to be under matched, but they keep winning. They play to the level of the team they are playing. Their post, Jordan Vanderkoff is a stud, and the offense runs all through him. With their PG coming back, they are a completely different team than what they showed against WO. Certainly will not have 25 TO's and they will play slower. Should be a very close game with it coming down to the very end just like last year.
  4. Lindale will certainly make it a tough game. We finally get our PG back which we've been without for several weeks. They slow the game down and will play a half court game. They defend the 3 pretty well. I've heard Paris is a very good team and it will be a tough challenge for Lindale, but Lindale will not let them run up and down the court if that's the game they try and play. Paris will have to have good ball control and knock down their open shots.
  5. Hey Tappy. That Hondo Webb kid is very slow and unathletic. The speed and quickness of Tatum was certainly something that Melissa has never experienced because they were completely overmatched. They couldn't break the press. I guess that region just plays half court basketball. That's probably why you think Hondo is good. In a half court game, walking the ball up the court, and dribbling through the "white boy" 2-3 zone would make anybody with any sort of talent look good. I bet Hondo is really good at playing H-O-R-S-E. He would get all the set shots that he needs and he wouldn't have to run or jump. Melissa was completely overranked and obviously came out of a very weak district.
  6. Hilarious posts guys. Maybe this crazy rule that is never called is because when an East Texas team makes it to the Regional tournament and faces one of the Dallas teams. The ET team has 1, maybe 2 guys, that can barely flush the ball over the rim and the Dallas team has their 3rd string players throwing the ball up off the backboard, catching it in mid air, tomahawking it down while the backboard violently shakes for 5 or 6 seconds. It's a crazy rule and I've always hated it. I'm glad it wasn't called.
  7. knightnation...take it easy. I totally agree and wasn't "crying" about it not being called. All I observed last night was that 2 dunks were made during non-game situations and I'm 100% certain one of the dunks was witnessed by the ref. I was confused and uncertain if this case was an actual rule or was it one of those rules that ignorant basketball fans always scream from the stands...."Over the Back, ref!!!" We both know, there is no such rule as over the back listed in any rule book.
  8. Chris Terry dunked in the pregame with the referee standing 10 feet away from him.
  9. What a game last night. Congratulations to the Lindale Eagles for beating Ferris 62-59. I have a rule question..... In the pregame warmup, one of the Lindale players dunked the basketball while the referees where on the court. Once I saw the dunk, I immediately looked to see if the ref saw it, and I'm not 100% sure, but I don't see how he missed it. And, during halftime, one of the Ferris players dunked the basektball and continued to hang on the rim, while turning around and waving to the crowd and bench while still hanging from the rim. The refs were out and even one ref told him to get down. What's the rule? I always thought it was a technical foul and team shooting gets the ball. I'm not sure if the pregame dunk was witnessed by the ref, but I'm 100% certain the halftime dunk was.
  10. Both teams must have won last night. They are scheduled to play the first game Friday night at 7:30 at the UT-Tyler gym. I think Spring Hill and Henderson play at 9 pm that night too. Should be fun.
  11. I haven't seen the scores from last night. I'm assuming both teams won barring a huge upset. Does anybody know the outcomes? If they both won, I keep reading they will play at UT-Tyler Friday night at 7:30 to determine the district championship. Anybody?
  12. Trust me, eaglepride, I'm not ragging on Lindale. I'm glad they made it this far and have had a successful season. All I'm saying is that if Lindale plays very well, they will only get beat by 30!! How's that for being harsh!!!! :D
