  1. it had to be a goof by the ref on the fair catch rule. NEW RULE 5: Rule 6-5-1 Kickoff – Fair Catch ARTICLE 1. a. If a Team B player makes a fair catch, the ball becomes dead where caught and belongs to Team B at that spot. (Exception: If a Free Kick is caught behind Team B’s 25-yard line, Team B will next snap the ball at its own 25-yard line. The next snap shall be from midway between the hash marks, unless a different position on or between the hash marks is selected by the team designated to put the ball in play before the play clock is at 25 seconds or before any subsequent ready-for-play signal. After the play clock is at 25 seconds or any subsequent ready-for-play signal, the ball may be relocated only after a charged team timeout, unless preceded by a Team A foul or offsetting fouls.) Rationale: Recent rules changes have resulted in more touchbacks during kickoffs. This is significant due to the fact that there are fewer injuries on kickoffs resulting in touchbacks versus kickoffs that have a return. This change gives the receiving team an option to take a touchback on kicks that fall short of the end zone. Additionally, this single change on kickoffs will be measurable in its effectiveness in increasing touchbacks during the 2018 season. No UILexception, rule is applied as written. As for the cut block as long as the player starts in the box and the cut happens with in five yard of the line of scrimmage it is still legal. Rule 9-1-6 Blocking Below the Waist ARTICLE 6. a. Team A prior to a change of team possession: 1. Linemen with initial position completely inside the tackle box may legally block below the waist inside the tackle box until the ball leaves the tackle box. All other Team A players are allowed to block below the waist only if the force of the initial contact is directed from the front. “Directed from the front” is defined as within the clock-face region between “10 o’clock and 2 o’clock” forward of the area of concentration of the player being blocked. Exceptions are given in paragraphs 2, 3 and 4. 2. Team A players may not block below the waist when the block occurs 5 yards or more beyond the neutral zone. 3. Players in motion at the snap or lined up outside the tackle box may not block below the waist toward the original position of the ball at the snap. until the ball carrier is clearly beyond the neutral zone. 4. Once the ball has left the tackle box a player may not block below the waist toward his own end line
  2. As much as you would like to think I don't believe Carthage could win I did pick them before all this started. Carthage is the juggernaut in 4a football and its fun to watch you guys try and pick apart anything that is said to the contrary.
  3. Yes I do. Marshall has speed and talent all over the field and was a test for Carthage, but like other have said Marshall made some big mistakes that didn't allow them to win the game. PG will be more discipline and a more well rounded team. I look at it like this Midlothian Heritage was a test for the pirates but the real test is when we played Argyle. There is a difference at least in my book.
  4. Never said Marshall wasn't a test just saying over all you schedule isn't as strong as years past.
  5. HearEmaGrowlin you seen the Marshall film and La Vega in person who would you say is more athletic?
  6. They beat a pretty darn good team in Stephenville.
  7. So that makes them (Carthage Opposition) 6-8, La Vega Opposition is a combined 15-3 with the LV games taken out of the mix and 17-6 overall. La Vega destroyed Midlothian Heritage #3 team in the state at the time. Say what you will Carthage schedule hasn't really been all that tough, not saying Carthage isn't good just the schedule isn't what it used to be. PG will be the first real test for Carthage. This started on another thread but probably fits better here.

  9. Carthage schedule doesn't look as tough as it did at the beginning of the year the 4 teams they have played this year are a combined 6-12.
  10. Tepper posted on Twitter: Computer projections, after week 5. 5A : D1: Lufkin v Hutto D2: Aledo v Manvel 4A: D1: Carthage v La Vega D2: Lorena v WOS 3A: D1: Goliad v Gladewater D2: Cisco v Newton
  11. La Vega defense is way better the you think. #4 Midlothian Heritage came in averaging 34.5 points per game La Vega shut them out in the second half and the defense only gave up 14 total in the game, 4 of the 18 point give up were due to special teams. A returned, blocked extra point and a safety on the punt snap that went over the head of the punter. L-E might score 14 in this game. La Vega will be the most athletic team L-E will see too. This La Vega team might already be better then last years and they are only getting better.
