Dawgs were missing 7 starters in that game including Ingram.
I know Ingram got hurt the week before the 2015 game. How many starters did you lose in that game or were they out the previous games too?

That is what I assumed. I’m just trying to figure out why those wins are better than Henderson x2 and Kilgore, Gilmer, Liberty Eylau or Gilmer for Carthage? I mean Kilgore, LE & Gilmer made it 3 rounds deep and Henderson 4. Seems like at worst they would be a wash?
I was just giving my guess on what EagleBorn said.

Let's just say this is a toss up, and player for player it's a wash. Heck let's even say LV is slightly better. You are taking Williams and Hyde over Surratt and Preston?
IMO Surratt and Williams is a push. Hyde would be my DC in a heart beat. If you watch the end 2015 game Surratt said he got out coached. Same staff from 2015 with some slight changes. Think all the sudden things are going to change.

Which three for LV and which one for Carthage?
If I had to guess I would say Liberty Hill x2, and China Spring, Maybe Canyon Lake depends on which pole you look at.

I'm as big homer as they come, but I can also read stats, ratings, etc. & based solely on those, there seems to be an edge in Carthage's favor. No?
I would give the edge to Carthage in offense and a slight edge to La Vega on Defense . The stats for both team tell who the are, LV will play Defense and try to run the ball and throw it if they have too. Carthage is balanced on Offense and plays good defense. There is no real way to compare the stats. No common opponents so looking at stats are good but they really hold no relevance for comparison, they do give you a good Idea of who the teams are and what they like to do.

I flipped a coin. Lol.
When I have more time later I’ll give my reasons.
Thanks, I will be looking forward to reading your response. I know how hard it is to be objective when you are tied so closely to a team.

All bs aside(that means you lion70) I’ll take LaVega by 5...
One of the few people to pick La Vega would like to hear your reasoning behind this. (BTW I happen to agree with you. )

How many yards passing for LaVega this season ?
About 1800.

And to flip it
LaVega can establish the tunnel sweep early, set the passing game up by forcing Carthage to 9 in the box. This is why this game is going to be so epic
Just some La Vega Rushing numbers. North of 4600 yard on the the season 3 back over 1000 yards avg 9.9 yards per carry with those back in the game. Even if Carthage cuts that in half still a long night. Both defenses will have there hands full on Friday night.

Quick Questions:
How many yard rushing does Carthage have on the Season? Split between how many backs?

What makes Carthage an exceptional team is (1) Great coaching staff (2) Do not beat themselves (turnovers and penalties) (3) Halftime adjustments... they always keep you guessing (4) Carthage Fans...Unbelievable support.
To beat Carthage this Friday you better have a balanced attack, eliminate turnovers and penalties, and keep that going for the full four quarters.
That being said Waco LaVega is also undefeated (1) Great Coach (2) Seasoned Sr. QB who was a sophomore and lead them to a State Championship (3) Three exceptional running backs and a QB as well.
LaVega can't beat Carthage without keeping them guessing on offense. LaVega will not hold Carthage to less than 28 pts.
Bottom line is Carthage defense and like I said earlier LaVega has to pass to keep the guessing.
Carthage 28
LV 14
Fair take on the game.

Didn’t they see Carthage at the beginning of the year? The Gilmer game?
and I believe they saw La Vega first round of the playoffs. and against Kennedale in the scrimmage.

Just an interesting thought. What if they reset the final four by record or by state ranking?

Surratt usually puts in one trick play per week. Keeps his kids excited about practice. If he needs them, he has them. He has been a head coach 10 years and won state 5 of those years. How do you think his coaching style works ?
No doubt Surratt is a great coach, you don't do what he has done unless you are.

Carthage had never had a state championship until a young coach named Scott Surratt came to town 9-10 years ago. Now they have five. Carthage isn't some suburb of Waco or Dallas. It's been about the same size for a thousand years. Folks that get on here and post are just having fun and saying what comes to mind. In the end, nobody in Carthage questions Coach Surratt's gameplan. Coach Surratt and most posters on here know that good teams at this point don't change much from what they do best.
My point exactly, I'm sure every team that is still playing this week is looking to put in a wrinkle or two to take advantage of something they think they might be able to expose that is what good coaches do.
-
I'm ready to hear a none bias take on this game. Ready to hear from the sideline to sideline crew that has seen both of these teams in person, and get Mr. Stepps point of view on this game.

La Vega is going to be confused as a boy's first time in a gentleman's club with 5 stages going at once, they won't have a clue which way they need to look to make sure they don't miss something. The tricks that Surratt and company come up with will be mind boggling, keep up if you can! Go Dawgs!!!!
I highly doubt that, Carthage is the number one team in the state. If they have to come up with tricks to beat a team then something is wrong. Good teams do what they do because they are good at it. From what I've read on here Carthage is a very balanced offense with multiple weapons and a very good defense. Why get fancy now?

Anybody that was at the LV game in 2015 has a pretty good idea of how good LV has the potential to be. But with that said you don't replace 4 D1 players just like that. Carthage fans know. Had to do it in 2013. To be honest Carthage is just now back to that level. It took 3, almost 4 years. If LV is as good as they were in 2015 this is going to be a game that will be remembered for a very long time. Carthage is on that same kind of level this year from what I have seen based on the competition they have played. But who really knows. Carthage might have played a buncha cupcakes. We stay in our region playing ball. So it's very hard to compare schedules and even strength of schedule. I have seen film on LV, and they are impressive. But I don't know enough to understand how good the opposition is. I would say LV fans or people from the Centex region would say the same. That's what makes these games deep in the playoffs so exciting. It's the unknowns.
Exactly my point both teams are 14-0 and didn't get there on accident. This game will be one to remember.

What about Taequan Taylor? Is he as good as advertised?
If you give him space to run he will take full advantage, above average hands and speed. He is one of the many tools LV has. When I was at the Canyon Lake game he caught a quick hitter made one guy miss and no one was going to catch him.

Winner wins by single digits. Both defenses shine.
Agreed. Nothing like a great defensive showdown.

Can we ask what school you coach at just curious?
Waco High and CS when I did coach. Took time off about 3 years ago to spend time with my young children.

What game did you see? Just curious?
The Kilgore game. Not once have I said you guys weren't good because you are. But I don't think you guys know how good La Vega is. I could be totally wrong and Carthage might blow LV out but IMHO I don't see that happening. I'm not you average Joe fan either I have coached In Texas at the varsity level for 10 years. I've seen good football and you both play it.

Why do I think if Carthage wins by 21, you will be back on here making excuses for LV? You say LV is not your team but that you have seen them play several times and haven't seen Carthage at all and Carthage would be scared to play CS a second time last year. I think we got us a true blue centex homer. I also think the Honorable Mr. JBizzle brought up a good point when he reminded you that Carthage beat the team that beat LV last year.
Your wrong I have seen them play just not live. Have you seen La Vega play?
