Every single game at this juncture is a struggle in Region 2.......regardless of who is playing who. I think La Vega will struggle with Melissa too......and may even lose that battle.  Decatur is a really good team in Region 1.......but they will probably have their hands full this week with Springtown.  IMHO......I think Argyle shows up Friday in a big way on both sides of the ball.  Yes they are banged up a little and without some of their best players.......but Argyle does have depth and talented players on the bench.  Maybe not fully seasoned yet or with a year of experience at this level, but they will perform. Argyle will win this game because they are the better team.....end of story.  The weather may cause some problems, but it will cause problems for both teams.  I've got Argyle scoring in the 40's.......and I don't think Brownwood can do that against Argyle.

I dont think La Vega will have any trouble with Melissa.  Argyle will better show up, Brownwood is a lot better team then Stephenville was.

  2. I think what most people are missing is the match up.  Brownwood matches up very well against Argyle.  BW was able to run with and cover the LV receivers for the most part (better then any other team) and their run defense is pretty good too. With Argyle on it 2nd maybe 3rd RB this could play in to brownwood hands.   There is an 80% chance of rain and sustained wind out of the south at 15-25 mph. McLane is open to the south and the way the wind swirls in that stadium could make passing pretty difficult.  Brownwoods has the ability to get teams behind the chains and with the conditions Friday night passing yards might be at a premium with the conditions this also could play in to the Lions hands.  My biggest issue with Agyle is there defense.  They gave up 49 to Stephenville.  Stephenville only score 10 points against LV in a game that the pirates were missing several defensive starters.  Brownwood in my opinion is better on Offense than Stephenville.   This is a scary match up for the Eagles.

There is no question, they will.  The question is will the defense get a few stops too.

Talking about LV, what would you do different in game 2 if you are the LV d coordinator?  I would say stopping the run was the biggest issue for LV in game one.  Argyles running game took a hit losing byce but the receivers and QB are better now than then.

Brownwood, La Vega, or Carthage.  Take your pick.

Like I said, a lot of points. Not all of it would fall squarely on the defense, though, was the point I was making.

But, it really doesn't matter what they gave up. They won. They move on. They'll probably play another District 5 team next week and then would be guaranteed to face someone in the Region II championship that they've already beaten convincingly this season.

Since the Argyle game LV is only giving up 7.5 points per game,  against some pretty good teams.  Convincingly would be a stretch Argyle score with 2 seconds left to go up by 14.  and that was the only touchdown that Argyle scored in the second half.  La Vega will have to win tonight and then against Melissa to have a shot at Argyle again.  Argyle better be concerned about  Brownwood (if they win tonight),  the Lions defense matches up very well against the Eagle offense.

Sooo I’m going with the “underdog” in this one. Something tells me that Celina pulls this game out, but they probably lose the next one against China Spring or Melissa. Who knows? This is why we play the games!

I know Celina has a good team, but I don't see them being able to hang with La Vega in this one.  To many offensive weapons for the pirates.  If they stack the box LV will throw the rock and they sit back and play coverage the pirates will tote it.  Also Celina will find it difficult to move the ball against the LV defense especially if you are a one dimensional team.  LV will be the fastest and most physical team Celina will see this year and most likely the last.

Don't be ridiculous........NOBODY in the entire 4A Classification thinks that way.  La Vega is highly ranked for a reason.......and their numbers are just excellent. Everybody knows that the game against Argyle was an early season game that was close.  And everybody expects to see a rematch again in this region again this season between the two teams......just like I do.   I just hope the game can be played in dry conditions if the teams do have a rematch. That way......one team does not have an adverse advantage over the other due to style of play connected with the weather.  Last year's game was totally the very worst conditions you could expect for a Texas high school playoff game......even worse than snow.

La Vega has to get by Celina this week first.

La Vega did play two cupcakes the last two weeks and won in blowouts, so they will have had 3 weeks to get any of their starters healthy.  Their game against Brownwood 3 weeks ago was somewhat tight......a  31-14 win......if you wanna call that close.  I'm not sure how that game transpired either......just not alot of information on the La Vega games.

In the Brownwood game La Vega was with out a starting wide receiver and running back.  Both scores came in the second half one on the starters and the other on the backups.

I haven't seen them play football in person.  I can tell you that at our district track meet last year they are fast.  The only like opponent we had was Graham and it looks like they fared well vs them.  Graham looked undersized on the DL though... but this is 4A...  I don't really know what undersized actually means   At Marshall we always had beasts on the DL and played against beasts... moving to 4A its like a whole new world with everyone playing both sides of the ball etc.

You know that LV won every relay at 4a the state track meet last year.  La Vega has a little speed too.

It's likely that we are starting 4 Freshman on the OL this week.  We are literally down to 6 OL... Just a rough year... we could be REALLY good in about 3 years if the freshmen  + current 8th grade develop the way we expect them to.

How do you think they will be able to hold up against the defensive line of La Vega?

Win or lose this will be another great opportunity to play a quality team right before the playoffs.  I really want to make it out to this game.  I'll say LV by 14.  It's crazy how fast this year's team is.  Wright is a beast!  Can Brownwood match that speed?  IF so, it could be an interesting game.

Pretty sure 3 of the Brownwood Defensive back ran on their state relay last year.  Should be interesting.

The next year La Vega scores with :11 seconds to take the lead and Argyle blocks the extra point only to be ran down by a LV stud on the LV 20, LV won by 1.  Again they lost both games but let's not pretend they got to state and folded.

La Vega Won that game 33-31, and Cobb caught him about the 45 of Argyle and tackled him on the LV 44.  I know over time memories fade and turn in to things we wish had happened.
