  1. I didn’t realize their numbers were that low. Looked at their schedule from the last two seasons and they managed to win 8 games….more than us actually BUT our schedule was a wee bit more challenging. We are definitely in rebuild mode. We do have everyone coming back except one starting lineman and our QB. Incoming freshmen are talented with good numbers who won district as 8th graders. 7th grade won district as well. They’re on the way; we just have to be patient. I also think our numbers will be good enough to complete a JV season again. We should be back on track very soon.
  2. One season*. 2022 was pretty good. 3 losses by a combined 13 points to 2 higher division teams and in district to Tenaha by 1 point. Beat state ranked and undefeated Carlisle, 3 others in a higher division, and won the “on-the-field” district championship. Ugh and lol Anyways, last year….definitely “well below average” and then some.
  3. Nope, I saw that. I always like having Garrison on the schedule. Hopefully soon again!
  4. Played Hull a few times in the playoffs back in the day. Can’t recall playing them in the regular season. Surprised me. Glad to always have Groveton on the schedule!
  5. New faces all over the place! We’ve been in that district of yours a few times, but it was always Region 3 still. You might wanna throw them one of those get to know you mixers!
  6. I don’t usually see anyone from those schools on Smoaky. Gonna be kind of weird being in Region 2. Playoffs will be lots of new faces. Might have one of those Chapel Hill/Henderson or Carthage/Gilmer championships if y’all should be so fortunate to make it that far. One year you’re in the same district, the next you wouldn’t play until the state championship!
  7. Yall got a nice draw! We’ve been in that district a few times before less Mildred and Frankston. Always enjoyed it because we could go through Palestine every week and eat at Little Mexico!
  8. Can you imagine having a senior on that talented team who went on to win the district and not be able to advance to the playoffs? Oh yeah, I CAN......... But onward and upward.
  9. Happens that way sometime. I’ll still contend that our ‘95 team who beat state-ranked teams in Groveton and Refugio before falling to Celina in the state championship could arguably be our best team. (NOT taking anything away from our state champs in ‘06 and ‘07! They got it done!) Matchups, talent, coaching, and a little luck go a long way in winning a championship. Those Chilton and Bremond teams over the years have been tough. Throw in Wortham and Golthwaite (state champs also!) along with perennial Mart and you’ve got . Makes Texas high school football what it is!
  10. You said it! Mart obviously until someone takes them down, but those others are salty. Lots of good matchups with tradition-rich schools.
