So if things haven't changed, y'all have always had a big mess like this?

There is no mess here.  The new coach is doing a great job with the summer program, the 7 on 7 program is doing well and all the boys are working hard for a coach they respect.  This whole thread would have been different if a few people didn't get all out of shape because DA wasn't hired.  Also, Horn wanted more money that wasn't in the budget to give.  With the exception of a poster or two who are way in on the inside and didn't get their way, no one in town is even talking about this.  There are kids in this high school program from 14 to 18 years old doing their best to get better and I certainly hope they succeed.

    Why do they want him?

I keep reading on this thread, and others, that the discipline is lacking there and that a certain coach is part of the problem..... if I was a player I'd want that coach to be boss cuz I already know what I can get away with.

People on this thread say a lot of things they know nothing about or just repeat what other people have said.  Many posters on this thread don't even attend the games or have anything to do with this program.  I have no idea where people get the idea he has a discipline problem when Waldie was the head coach the last two years.  He commands respect among his players and they know it.  He doesn't scream or yell at them, he takes them aside for correction and if the kids don't correct the issue they sit.  This whole Nelson hatred boils down to a few people not getting their way and they have now resorted to trashing the man as much as possible.  We "grown ups" should start acting like it and leave the program and kids in the program alone and let them do their respective jobs.

Ray Charles seen the damn two bit shim sham committee farce and the board/supt 3 card rummy attempt on the community. Nelson signed the bottom of a Bud light coaster for his contract last fall. the rest is pure smoke and mirrors. And as rents2danghigh said they are just praying the good ole folks will all lie down & roll over like good little serfs and accept it as " it is what it is"  now you need to be good little  folks and support the school and the new AD we rammed down your throats that well over 3/4  of the community does not want. :airquote:

I bet 3/4 of the actual players want him.

What kind of Offense will Nelson bring to the table? Same defensive scheme I'm sure since he was the "dc" the past 2 seasons.... Let's get back to the real business at hand and that's next season.

I sure hope he figures out a way to throw the ball more.  If there was any balance last year it would have been much better.  8 men in the defensive box doesn't allow much running room.

    I think i saw 6 jobs posted.

I have only heard of 4 but I'm not on the inside.  Of those four leaving, I have heard 2 were leaving anyway for family reasons, one got a big promotion at a large school, and one got his license to be an administrator.  I have no idea of the other 2 as all my knowledge is 3rd of 4th hand.

A couple of things from Gunter.

We only led 8-3 at half, though blew it open somewhat in the 3rd quarter.  I think DF had one of the better defenses we played, forgetting about Newton's defense.   If they all pull on the same end of the rope they could be very tough.  My understanding is that DF has alot coming back.

Gunter's HC was promoted from DC 11 or so years ago.  Never had been a HC. This was worked out pretty well.

Well said GTAlumnus.  The DF offense was very predictable.  They changed up some of the blocking schemes late in district but the plays were essentially the same.  Gunter could stack the box with no worries of being beaten down field by the pass.  It seemed to be 8 defensive players versus 5 or 6 blockers...those numbers don't work out too well for the offense.  The DF defense will be just fine this year, but we have to do something different offensively to compete well this year.  We lost a great lineman and leader to graduation who will be difficult to replace but we do have some young guys coming up to fill some of the gaps left behind.  It will be interesting and fun to watch.

I certainly wish coach Nelson and the Daingerfield Tigers the best in the coming years.

Honestly if the situation would have been handled properly and not try and force "power" down everyone's throats. It prolly wouldn't be such an uproar. Logitech you're right about it making us look bad but hell we've been hated for years. It's 2nd nature now it seems.

I'm not trying to be controversial here, but I am genuinely curious about how did they try to force power down everyone's throats?  I have heard information which directly contradicts what is being posted here.  For instance, I have heard outside of this forum that the school board president requested the top 2, not the top 3.  Inside the forum we have heard it said that the superintendent manipulated it to only be the top 2.  I'm curious which one is correct and how anyone who wasn't there would know this information.  Again, this is what I have heard as I was not there to see or hear it myself.

  8. I have read most of the posts on this forum and some strange patterns seem to have emerged.  Early on there were posters listing their top head coaches for the job from other schools, which is not uncommon for a thread like this.  Soon enough DA posts started showing up which is also not unusual when there is a HC job open at Daingerfield.  Then the current coaching staff bashing started coming up, again which is not unusual in a topic such as this.  And then, as usual, the bashing of the administration and school board began to show up.  So it seems to me this began as just a normal thread.

However, the personal attacks on people of the community have been extremely harsh.  The "fieldhouse man" attacks are some of the most disturbing to me because that man is one of the best men to have ever lived around Daingerfield.  I mean even to the point of one poster insinuating he is going incognito for not driving his classic truck around but instead opting for the camry which was his deceased wife's car.  The same one he has been driving pretty regularly since her death is ridiculous to me.  The accusations that the "little fat man" is running the show?  The remarks that the superintendent is just looking out for her own agenda and personal gain?  What personal gain could come from this for the superintendent?

I'm also confused by the posts of how dumb she is being led around by the manipulators, while claiming she is the one manipulating the selection committee, the school board and the entire town.  Which one is it?  Or, is it the personal agenda of some of the posters on here who are looking out for their own wants or who may bitter from past decisions?

Whoever the administration and school board decide to hire, I am behind them 100% and will trust their decision even if I don't agree with it.  We always need to remember those actually playing the game on Friday nights are just kids and they deserve the support of the Daingerfield fans.
