  5. I am still trying to say "The Rangers are close to the World Series" and I have to pinch myself to make sure I am awake!!!
  6. Josh did a great job. I know that the Rangers brass have sort of fallen out of love with Josh but he has done a great job showing total enthusiam even when the Rangers were not very good and he made the broadcasts enjoyable. He will be missed and we wish him much success in his future endeavors.
  7. ONCE MORE: You have to register regardless of WHICH organization you belong to. Are you saying that the schools and communities deserve to have their Week 10 interrupted because the officials do not agree with what the Legislative Council ordered? I tell you all what I am going to do.....I am going to get clarification DIRECTLY from the UIL and have it on here tomorrow regardless of what it is. Then maybe that will stop the twisted remarks and snipes that seem to accompany most topics on this site.
  8. My UIL??? Yeah, I will buy that one. My dad was one of the longest tenured Legislative Council members there so yeah, you can say it is my UIL. If they changed the deadline policy which is what we were hoping they would do 2 weeks ago, then this is great for all sports. And no, I have not see the letter today. This is the first time I have been on here since early this morning.
  9. I'll be on the field, court and diamond. What is the point carrying this on. You guys want to believe what you want to believe and nosir............I am not making anything up and OBTS knows it. If you want clarification then I suggest you call Austin and get the headlines from them. There is no point in going round and round with people who want to do nothing but twist words around and make a bunch of retarded accusations. If this is your true mentality and these are your real feelings about this, then I will bet coaches will be glad you are watching the games from the stands.
  10. All observers for all sports are not publicized for public consumption for the very reason why this process was started. If everybody knew who the observers were, then those guys would be bombarded with phone calls, emails, text messages, in other words......politics. All are either retired college officials or all are Division 1 TASO officials. As for the college assigners, I am very very sure they do not give a rats butt about who is aligned with who.
  11. The UIL has observers for each sport already in place. This year, football will have different obervers all over the state. Basketball will have obsevers at different tournaments all around the state in December. There will be Playoff Previews in February where crews will be looked at to determine if they would be worthy of a regional or state tournament bid.
  12. Mike, the chapters are asked to submit their top 25%. Alot of times, that list does not reflect the top 25%. It includes board members who could not referee their way out of a wet paper bag. That is the reason why there are new tools in place to evaluate the people that the chapters present. If they are not very good, those names are probably going to be kept and reviewed and compared to the next list that the chapter provides. If a chapter presents the names of these people that have already been seen and denied, then that chapter stands a strong chance of their list not being considered for consideration.
  13. I happen to know FOR A FACT that those TASO die hards don't give a tinker's dang about this whole UIL / TASO situation. As long as it does not affect their conferences, they do not lose a moments sleep over high school officating politics.
  14. That is exactly right. When you register, you pick each sport you will be officiating.
  15. Yessir, I do football. I am also fully aware that the local chapters handle the assignments. If you read what I said, it states that TASO does not pick the crews. And yes, I have seen the lists of officials that chapters present to the UIL. The UIL is already compiling a list of the chapter members of each chapter that can and can't officiate at a high level. One of the things that is about to change is chapters will not be able to send people to events that are not able to officiate. Pure and simple. Mike, you know as well as I do that everything has to have a starting point. Nothing happens immediatly or over night.
  16. November 1 is the deadline. If you are not registered by November 1, you will not officiate any sport for the 2010 - 2011 school year.
  17. 1. The UIL has always set the payscale and and officials are asked to submit incident reports to the UIL. TASO has not been successful in obtaining firm footing with the UIL because of the different personalities all trying to put their 2 cents worth in and threatening work stoppage. The UIL handles all scheduling for UIL assignments and TASO has never had a say in what chapter or what crew is used. 4. The UIL dramatically has improved basketball officiating in Texas by completely overhauling the regional and state tournament selection system and taking the "good old boy" system out and taking politics out of the equation. They have selected people who BELONG in those assignments and instituted a system used by the NCAA for grading officials and insuring that the best crews work regardless of their local politics. Basketball pay has been raised for the 2010 - 2011 school year. They have improved the look of the uniforms and have given all chapters regardless of size, an equal voice on the state advisory board.
  18. QUESTION: What does wanting to work college sports have to do with being a member of the UIL or for that matter, just registering with the UIL? Just asking...
  19. You know.......the same word could be used for those that refuse to register to insure that there are enough officials to cover games on Week 10 and into the playoffs. You are not going to see that though. There is nothing wrong with going and registering with the UIL. Otherwise, not only are you knocking yourself out of football, but you are taking yourself out of all other sports for this school year. 1........does the UIL have indirect control over officials now??? YES. have they always??? YES. 2........has the UIL stated that you could NOT remain a member of TASO??? NO. In fact, they stated that you could belong to whatever association you choosed. 3........has the UIL charged a fee to register??? NO.....and I do not want to hear the retarded comment about what about next year. Are they going to charge next year.....THIS IS THIS YEAR....2010-2011. NOT 2011-2012. 4........has the UIL improved things in basketball??? YES. Are they capable of doing the same thing in the other sports??? They will fix whatever is broken. If it is not broken, it will not be fixed. 5........how has TASO resolved pay disputes in the past 10 years with either schools for non-payment or shorted pay??? They haven't. Is there an issue today regarding pay??? You bet there is. We owe it to the schools and communities to be out there in Week 10 and do our jobs. If we refuse to sit down and register with the UIL because we don't happen to like the people in charge or we do not like the way the message was conveyed, then I guess that can be labled as spineless. It works both ways.
  20. THIS JUST IN: Effective Monday morning, Sept. 6th, at 00:01, officials from across Texas will be able to log in to the UIL website and begin registering with the UIL. Chapters will have to decide as to which association they will align themselves with . . . . . . HOWEVER, officials will still be required to register with the UIL.
  21. I will make the call now: Hamilton and Lee will BOTH be in a Rangers uniform next season.
  22. GREENBERG - RYAN WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  23. Read this article. Very well written and one can only hope that Cuban finds some reality in it: http://www.star-telegram.com/2010/08/02/23...-treat-the.html
