  1. If Spring Hill were to move, it would likely only be to fill out another district that drops below 5 teams. For both them and Carthage wouldn’t it make the most sense (geographically, completely disregarding other factors like district size) to move them to District 7, and not down south to an entirely new region?

I have no problem with 4.

and lets be honest, when they add 7a, there are going to be more teams that get in, because you will get 4 from each district in each class.  I agree with you, the UIL is not going to take away playoff teams.

UIL isn’t going to add 7A until the number of football playing schools by in Texas increases by a fair amount. So by then even more schools making playoffs with 4 per district in 2A-7A will just make sense.

  3. Talent tends to be condensed in certain areas, making many districts/parts of the state significantly tougher than others. Sometimes even teams who make it to the state semi-final may struggle to make playoffs in some districts of another region (Iowa Park last year comes to mind with this one, some folks were questioning if they even would’ve made playoffs in PG’s district).

That being said, Lufkin v Texas had me checking several times to make sure I read the score right.

So, don't get me wrong - I'm not claiming to be annexpert on the art, by any means. But we've been paying pretty good attention to what goes on for eight years, since our oldest joined Cameron Jr High Band.

    So here's what I saw:

A: I know I have heard of bands getting "penalized" for starting early, before they're announced and "given permission" to start. Now, I have asked, and been told that a band can begin playing before the announcement, but nothing they do or play will count. I was told bands do this to plan a "crescendo" or some other attention-grabbing moment right as their names are announced. We saw one band do this in prelims, and at least four in the finals round. I did not notice any of them use it for any sort of "moment."

B: That being said, a lot of the bands, of course, used props, some... let's say abundantly. Whitesboro's use of ladders - and whatever that big, ugly mound-of-dirt-looking thing was in the middle of the field that their pit was set up on - was a bit much. I know for a fact I am far from the only person who thinks that some bands look more like they're trying to put on an off-Broadway dance number. A lot of the bands' actual marching performances didn't feature an impressive... I guess you'd say "trick" moment. But they made up for it with production, without looking like they're depending on props and theatrics.

Atlanta had a great set, their music or marching wasn't impressively complex, but it went terrificly with their theme, and boy were they colorful. Again, representing their theme.

Honestly, Queen City's theme and presentation were probably the least impressive of the ten finalists. By far. Mineola - Great production, and they nailed what they did performance-wise. But better than Atlanta, or even Crane? No.

So here's what was really perplexing. White Oak was the only "military"-style marching band there. And they did what they did superbly. I can tell you their championship round performance was rougher - their lines were "dirtier", which for a military marching band is essential. But I seriously texted my buddy during the prelims and told him the entire Roughnecks Band was audirioning for the Aggie Marching Band. They had no props, and flags onlybduring the final section. All straight line and angle marching.

    And they placed fourth.

Rumor I'm hearing is that one of the judges was so all-over-the-place that they're not going to be used again. I'm told he/she ranked Yoe tenth for their music (trying to confirm if that's composition or performance), and without that ranking, Yoe would have won bronze. I'll tell you this - We have a senior in band this year, so I've seen all the hard work those kids, directors, and supporters put into that show. And I understand all the schools have that, that's how they got there. But after seeing everything I saw last Wednesday, I have even more of an appreciation for Yoe's performance.

Anyway, the whole thing didn't make sense to me. But Mineola definitely wasn't the best band there (Their theme was "Car Man", and at one point I noticed part of the band had formed an "A" and a "R", and I was like, "What the heck is that for? ...Oh, wait... I guess that's a 'C'." *Eyeroll* Seriously?) and Atlanta definitely got s****ed.

This is a thread about a football game, probably not the place for this. That being said, as someone who also enjoys band myself: Mineola was the best in nearly every aspect, there’s a reason every single judge in both prelims and finals put them in first. It’s not just about presentation/composition, it’s mostly about execution, and they’ve got it for sure. I do agree though, judging was a mess, but the arts are a very subjective place, weird stuff happens in every single fine art.

Over on the 6A Texas football forum, someone has started compiling a spreadsheet. He doesn't have everything but he has several down to 4A, but not much after that.

    https://www.6atexasfootball.com/forum/main-forum/484660-friday-is-snapshot-day-uil-2020-2022-realignment-post-adm-numbers-here

Using this, here’s how you can figure out where the cutoff might be

UIL wants 220-250 football playing schools in 6A (before opt ups). So, you take the enrollment of the 250th largest school, that’s the lowest possible cutoff, the enrollment of the 220th largest, you got the likely highest possible cutoff. It’ll be safe to assume all schools below the 250th place mark are locks to drop. Given, none of those guesses will completely accurate until all numbers are updated on the sheet, but it’s a good way to guess.

Well it would take Carthage away from natural rivals in Kilgore and Henderson. I think in DI Carthage would almost definitely stay in the same district with all of Carthage old district mates. There really is no other place that makes sense. If the UIL puts Carthage in DII there would be a chance that they would send them south again (D9). Not sure fans are interested in playing any of those teams outside of maybe Jasper. The obvious thing to do would be to add them in with PG, LE, and Gilmer. Both those districts (6 & 9) currently have 5 teams. But who knows with the UIL when it comes to realignment. I just think you know what you get staying in D1.

Just an opinion. I would imagine a lot of Dawg fans would feel the same way. But that’s a conversation for later. Just thinking ahead of possibilities.

I would hope nobody is actually crazy enough to create a district with PG, LE, Gilmer, Pittsburg AND Carthage. That's more teams that could go multiple rounds deep than there are playoff spots. For ideal travel, I'd put them in District 7. But 9 would be more reasonably competitive. Carthage would make a joke out of 7.

    Spring Hill

Boys - Football (Although making up some ground...maybe. This year may be interesting).

Girls - Track (Although basketball and softball are right behind)

I wouldn't call Spring Hill recently anywhere near terrible at football. Just a brutal district and I'm assuming talent is hard to keep with the Lobos in town.

Overrated to me would be going 10-0 and losing in the first playoff game ending 10-1

Didn't Sunnyvale do that ending 9-1 with Gilmer shutting them down 1st round? I think some people were even predicting them to make a fairly deep run too.

Wins in the last 2 decades (in East Texas from 6A to 4A)...2000 to 2018

    Gilmer - 213
    Longview - 195
    Carthage - 184
    Lufkin - 181
    Kilgore & Texas High - 157
    Jasper - 150
    Van - 147
    John Tyler - 144
    Liberty-Eylau - 135
    Henderson - 130
    Pleasant Grove & Sulphur Springs - 123
    Caddo Mills & Marshall - 121
    Canton - 120
    Paris - 114
    Lindale - 111
    Whitehouse - 110
    Fairfield & Tyler Lee - 109
    Pittsburg - 108
    Chapel Hill - 106
    Wills Point - 105
    Palestine - 101
    Hallsville & Rusk & Spring Hill - 97
    North Lamar - 95
    Jacksonville - 90
    Center - 89
    Brownsboro - 85
    Athens - 78
    Bullard - 74
    Mount Pleasant - 71
    Nacogdoches - 69
    Pine Tree - 53
    Mabank - 46
    Huntington - 22

Only 3 programs have reached 90 or more wins in a decade the last two decades in 6A and 5A in East Texas..
    - Lufkin 108 (2000-2009)
    - Texas High 93 (2000-2009)
    And you guessed it...Longview...twice.
    - 97 (2000-2009)
    - 98 (2010-2018)

(And just to throw it in for 4A, only Gilmer and Carthage have reached over 90 wins in a decade on that level as well. Gilmer with 112 in 2000-2009 and in 2010-2018 with 101. Carthage with 108 in 2010-2018).

(Note: John Tyler should reach the 90 wins or more in a decade mark this season as they sit at 89 from 2010 to 2018)

You can say Longview has underachieved some if you wanted...but we're the only program in the area, other than Gilmer, that has averaged 10 wins over the last 20 seasons, and we will reach that point again this year unless something horrendous occurs.

We've lost some playoff games we should've won. Every program does. And yes, we didn't bring home the final prize until last season. But Longview is anything but overrated, especially among East Texas schools.

Off topic, but I can't help but laugh at Huntington in last, with not even half of what 2nd to last has.

  10. I wonder if Red Lick will ever combine with someone like PG or Texas, or if they'll finally just build their own high school. Though given they're in a situation where their kids can choose between PG, Texas, and I think (correct me if I'm wrong), also Hooks and Redwater. So I bet the parents there like their kids having some choice.

Can someone define “benefit”? Are we talking improving the quality of education? More successful athletic programs? Lower taxes? I don’t see a lot of benefits, period, at least not for the 4 small school districts in Shelby County. In fact, if this cockamamie idea were ever to come to fruition in Shelby County, I would be hesitant to send my kids there. Louisiana has a system similar to what some are proposing, where the schools are run by a parish wide bureaucracy. For the most part, it is a quagmire.

In contrary to what I said when I started this thread about combining to improve athletic programs, I think it should be about education and finances the most.

    Priorities:

#1 Having enough money to function and have quality facilities and hire quality staff.

#2 Quality of Education (Although both 1 and 2 should go hand in hand generally)

#3 Quality of the Extracurricular Experience, in athletics, arts, and any other activities.

That is a great idea.  So instead of getting whipped in 3A and 4A they can join forces and get whipped in everything being 5A. I think Palestine soccer is the only thing that has success and might be able to compete in 5A

Not even mentioning how these communities probably exist separate for a reason. Doubt they would ever want to consolidate just like some other examples such as Paris and North Lamar.

First of all, you don't know anything about AHS.  Saying that it is a ghetto school is racist and untrue.  The only Facilities that need upgrading as far as athletics is the basketball gym and the press box at the remodeled football stadium (they host a bowl game there). True the enrollment has lessened over the last 45 years, but those students probably ended up at a Texas side school because that side of town is the side that is growing the fastest economically due to Texas not having a state income tax.

As for Texas, other than Red River Army Depot, where are the big layoffs that are going to cause Texas High to lose 400 students to get down to 5A D2 enrollment levels?  Despite those layoffs, the depot is still going strong.  Their enrollment is closer to LV, REL, and TJT than it is to Marshall which just might be the next largest high school in this area of East Texas.  Your posts are bunk...

All of Texarkana except PG is the ghetto school. Town in general is just a shithole. I wouldn't be surprised if PG suffers the same fate either.
