  1. Anyone in East Texas find one on the shelves anywhere yet? Thanks
  2. To be fair, the Supt at Tatum then called the Longview paper and fed them the story. The Supt had no idea that his own board would balk on the Frazier hire. Frazier was outside the meeting ready to be announced as the New HC. That deal was all the Supt's fault, you better know where your board is if you bring a guy to the board meeting to be hired. I would say 99.9999999% of newspaper guys would go with what the their source told them if the source was the Supt who is in charge of hiring the person. That all went down the end of Jan 2016, in Sept 2016 Hartt, the Supt announced he was retiring. He came up with something about he had already planned on retiring, but knowing the board basically said we dont trust you to do the job you were hired to do, he knew the writing was on the wall to leave. As usual, these small town school boards were wrong. They should have hired Frazier. He retired now, but had he been hired at Tatum, I would bet he would still be coaching and I would bet anything he would have been very successful. Since the all mighty and wise board didn't hired him, Tatum has gone 19-23 in those 4 years with 3 head coaches.
  3. So if I read that article correctly, the new HC is replacing his brother as AD and his brother is staying on staff as Head BB coach, the HFC from 2019 was replaced, but is staying on as a asst coach. Should be interesting
  4. Dang, hope that is not the truth, but unfortunately parents/community these days want a tough football team, but want to micro manage every part of a program. The PC culture is destroying it. It is getting harder and harder to keep young good coaches in the profession. Once they see all the "stuff" they have to deal with in a year or two, the poor wages, they find another profession. Less hours, better pay, less stress. I truly hate it. I am a former coach and retired a few years ago, but still work in a industry that I deal with coaches all over the state. Other than the things i mentioned above, the PC culture and school board interference the main issue, especially in the small school is keeping coaches. If they don't get out of the profession all together, they leave for the bigger school quickly. The bigger school are at such a shortage, they are paying way way more that the small schools can pay. For a 2nd year coach. Now I am all for coaches making as much as they can. It is a gypsy life for the most part. you don't get to plant roots anywhere if you ever want to move up the coaching ladder. But as many small school coaches tell me ( 3A and lower mostly) is that you get a guy straight out of college, you hire him on a probationary contract, most of the times the smaller schools have to hire people who haven't gotten their certification yet, but they hire then on that probationary contract with the understanding that they get their certification with in that first year, they also require the young coach to get his CDL that first year, also coaching 3 sometimes 4 sports. All the while making 40-45K a year with those hours. So after you help the young coach get certified, maybe he gets his CDL ( which is VERY hard to do while finishing your I Teach Texas to get certified and coach 3 sports and teach the class you have) a bigger school comes along that spring and offers him a 20K a year raise to come and work for them. Only coach 2 sports, etc. But you then have people and school board members ask, why can't we keep coaches. Well, look in the mirror. I am not saying these districts can afford to pay more, some can, some cant, but before blaming everyone else, look in that mirror. I could go on a long rant over school boards and how unqualified the vast majority of these people are to be on a school board , but I will save it to another day. This old coach as to get to a little work.
  5. Did Coach Armstrong Retire, find another job, or was he asked to leave? I know he had been there a long time. Very nice and accommodating man in my dealings with him years ago. Just curious.
  6. Unfortunately, smart people like you do not understand that it is HS football fans like us that do sign your pay checks. Need to have a little thicker skin there. I just cancelled my Dave Campbell sub. of a LOOOOOOOONG time. I may just be one, but you won't get another .0000000000000000000000000000000000001 from me.
  7. Very few 3A guys make that, 3A D2 even less. I do agree with your statement though, they should up the rate. A good welder makes more that the average 3A HC/AD makes . 75K is about the going rate. A good Welder doesnt have to put in 100 hours a week from August-November. Then they as AD's they are EXPECTED by the community to be at every Girls and Boys Basketball, Baseball, Softball, Volleyball game. I had a 3A D2 AD show me where parents were raising hell he wasnt at a JV football road game the day before he was coaching to get in the playoffs. A different coach at the same level was telling me how the school board was roasting him for not being at JR High Girls basketball games. It really is unreal in the smaller towns, how everyone wants to do your job for you and in the smaller towns it is worse. at 5a-6a Schools, people have to much to do and there are too many people at games for people to waste time to see if the AD/HFC coach is in attendance. Add to the fact that these guys are on 11 month contracts, meaning the month of JULY is their off month. They are not getting paid for that month. BUT, you would think that most people would know that in JULY there is no way for a football coach to take off. You have summer workout programs going full force, most every school has a football camp for they young kids in JULY and you are getting ready for the first day of fall practice the first of August. So, all the hours from August-Nov, expected to be at every sporting event the rest of the school year which is 4 nites a week, then work for free the month of JULY because you just cant take that month off....Yea, they need a raise. If it were me, I would have just learned to weld.
  8. Pretty sure he was injured most of the year, missed 5-6 games. But I posted at the end of the season I would give the coach at Harleton the coach of the year in East Texas for the job he did this past year. No question. But if you can't understand the difference at coaching at Harelton who will probably be a bottom of the district team in 3A D2, if they have a great season might challenge for the 4th spot in that district. Make 20-25K less that at 5A Hallsville where in that district after Marshall and Texarkana you at least have a chance at going to the playoffs, I really dont know what to say to you. Now, I doubt Hallsville goes that direction, they did that last time when they hired a HC in a State Champion Coach form a smaller school, 3A D1 in Drennon from Mineola. I think you are thinking somehow my original post was some kind of slight at the coach from Harleton, Coach Little. Nothing of the sort. 99% of coaches that are in his situation would "crawl" to a job opportunity jumping levels and pay raises like Harleton to Hallsville. Many may say, but Hallsville is not a good 5A job, they never win, dont have athletes, etc, but coaches dont think like that. Good/Great coaches think they can be the difference. They will be the one to turn it around. etc. I am sure Coach Little is of that same mindset. I am sure people told him the same thing about taking the Harleton job.
  9. Dist 11, Elysian Fields returns 17 starters. Entire OL and DL, QB, Both LB's, 2 DB's and 2 WR's. Returners-QB 1st team all Dist, WR 1st team All Dist, OL 1st team AP All State, 1st Team All Dist 1st team All Longview News All East Texas. Both LB's 1st Team ALL Dist, DE 2nd Team All Dist. If I were putting money on a team in Dist 11, this is where it would be. Will be EF's best team since 2016 when they were 12-1
  10. If given the chance, he crawl back to Hallsville if given the chance. Pay at Harleton about 70K, pay at Hallsville, about 90K+. Plus he is going to see how life is without the Wallace kid and moving up to 3A D2... He did a great job last year, but the game has changed going forward.
  11. Elysian Fields should make a big run, they have 3 college pitchers, Ramsey and Gooch already committed to colleges and Illingworth has opportunities in both baseball and football, he is just a JR. Return catcher, 3rd, short, 2nd, and outfield. they have plenty of guys to play 1st, Ramsey included. In 3A when you have those kinds of arms, no excuses not making a run. But, you got to play the games.
  12. That is the order, I know 2nd scrimmage is Jefferson Dist games Queen city @Harleton BYE New Diana @Ore City Waskom @Hughes Springs
