  1. You'd have to start with getting kids enrolled in the school. They used every available and able bodied boy they had and it still wasn't enough. Next you'd have to give the school board enough money to hire football coaches. The three men they had last year was the most they ever had coaching the fooball team (used to be just one or two coaching the whole squad, all positions), but two are basketball coaches, the other was a baseball coach ... a sport they don't even play at Karnack. Then you'd have to provide tutors to keep them academically eligible and a trainer to keep them fit and injury free. Three years ago they lost all but 9 of their kids to injuries and grades and had to forfeit the entire season. Two years ago they had their largest roster in recent memory (22 kids to start) but won only one game the whole year. So just one aspect won't work, to have a viable football program in Karnack, you'd have to have it all ... kids, coaches, trainer, tutors... and all that costs money they don't have.
  2. OMG, two weeks into district and Henderson is already starting to sound like Whitehouse did this time last year. Man, for y'alls sake I hope they can really pull it off. Be sorta cool to see the underdogs pull out a big season right before dropping to 3A (probably). But just in case they can't hold it together for the whole season, you might wanna tone down the smack talk lest it comes back to bite you in the butt. Good luck to ya.
  3. I say Marshall has their second string in by the third quarter. No way Hallsville will give Marshall more fits than Jax or PT.
  4. Marshall 27-14 over Pine Tree FINAL
  5. You gotta be kidding me. I don't have a horse in this race, but I'm surprised. Good for them!
  6. Harleton 40-0 over Big Sandy
  7. Got this one from another thread... 28-3 Whitehouse over Jacksonville
  8. Henderson 21-6 over Hallsville
  9. Harleton up 20-0 didn't catch the time, sorry
  10. Ray Horton score on 47-yard rush in single-play drive for Pine Tree... Marshall 14 Pine Tree 7
  11. Marshall is up 14-0 with 5 mins to go in the first quarter.
  12. "If you followed the game.... Marshall wouldnt have won if it wernt for the missed tackles by Jax... If Pine Tree wraps up, it'll go their way." As a matter of fact, I did follow the game. And that's football sweetheart. You miss tackles, you lose. You miss too many, you lose by a lot. They missed a lot. Theoretically speaking... sure, if Jacksonville had tackled every ball carrier for less than first-down yardage, then Marshall doesn't score and Jacksonville would have won. But how many times do you think Jacksonville will make EVERY tackle they are supposed to? And do you really, honestly, believe that they were capable (had the talent on the field and in the right position) to make every single tackle no matter what play Marshall ran? Do you believe that Marshall did not have the offensive talent to make the plays they made if not for Jacksonville errors? Come on, give me a break.
  13. Well, depending on who you ask, I am as horrible as they come  And Ryan, well.... ya'll will have to forgive him. He was a bit sheltered as a child and from what I hear he bleeds Maverick red (wait a minute ... we ALL bleed Maverick red come to think about it). Personally, I felt really, really bad about what happened to Jax in '04 when they SHOULD have made the playoffs. I'd hoped they would have rebounded from that and gone the next year with CBA. I dunno what happened to them. Freaky really, they beat Marshall first game of district and then fall apart. If that's any omen, then perhaps the loss Friday will spur them to beat everyone else on their schedule. Either way, I don't really care... so long as Nac makes it and they have to go face TX-High. After covering Marshall's last playoff game (Highland Park Snots), I really don't want the next Mav playoff I cover to be like that again...
  14. I'm going to call this a coin flip. I normally have an opinion one way or the other, and half the time I'm wrong (especially last year when the district flipped on its head). But based on the start of this year, its still a bit early for me to tell if the district is flipping back right side up or not. Marshall, Kilgore and Jax used to be the strong ones. Marshall and Kilgore have come back from last year ... so far... but Jax has not. Nac held Lufkin to 3 pts at halftime, that's gotta count for something! So at this point, we can forcast all we want, but when you're dealing with HS kids who are even less consistent on the field than they are changing their underwear, I think it's a true blue coin flip. Even if you take the kids out of the mix and go straight coaching... it's still a dang coin flip.
