  1. Thanks for that information about Mr. Paul Pewitt. Obviously he was an outstanding Texas cattleman, and a fine man, someone of whom’s namesake y’all can and should be proud. If he were raising Brimmers in the late 40s/early 50s, surely he would have rubbed shoulders with some of the Hudginses, and the Forgasons, and the Wilbecks, from down our way. I suspect he probably had friends among them. They were all that way. Men like Paul Pewitt are almost extinct in this day and time. And we’re all the poorer for it. So anyway, we both can be justly proud of our mascot and the men who prompted it. Not a better team name in the State of Texas. Regarding the game, seems to me this is one between two very evenly matched teams with very similar offensive and defensive philosophies. I’m thinking the team that makes the fewest mistakes, especially the dumb kind, silly penalties and such, will win in a nail biter. I’ll be pulling hard and bleeding maroon for my guys. But if Paul Pewitt wins, you can be assured that the lot of us will be pulling for y’all at State.
  2. Mr. JD Hudgins of Wharton County went to India well before WWI and brought back some Brahma cattle, the first herd on the North American continent. It was from this original herd that the hybrids were developed...Brafords, Bonsmara (to name a few) and the famous King Ranch Santa Gertrudis. Old man J D and Mr J T Sartwelle, of Houston, formed the American Brahma Breeders Association in 1924. I’m old enough to remember Mr. Sartwelle, and numerous of the Hudgins family, still involved in Brahma breeding and raising, are friends and clients of mine. No, we are definitely the original Brahmas. Which, for any of you non Texans, is pronounced “Bray-mas” and not “Brahh-mas” or “ Bray-Man’s”. Actually, , more like “Bray-mers” or even “Brimmers”.) Anyway, we’re all Texans and so entitled to use the name. Down here we’ve got EB, Bellville, and Halletsville all calling themselves Brimmers. So now we’ve added Paul Pewitt to that esteemed listed. Any other schools y’all know of? It’s a nickname we can all be proud of... So was Mr. Paul Pewitt and early raiser/breeder. Would like to know more about him.
  3. Was just trying to get up a little sensible conversation about the comparative strengths and weaknesses of the two teams. When you get to this level, it usually a #### shoot. what you come back with is about as logical as the rap of that ugly law professor woman with a Coke bottle glasses who was popping off in that congressional hearing last week. (However, I must say, I don’t wanna insult you — you’re a lot smarter than she is…) Naw, just trying to get some conversation started here, with little substance in it…
  4. Not much defense in that PPewitt- Daingerfield game. Against EB, Ganado’s only TD came after the Indians had partially blocked a Brahma punt in the end zone. Recovered at the 4 and took it in, in two plays. That, and a first quarter field goal. That’s all....EB’s red zone defense was lights-out. And Coach Bosse snapped shut the playbook in the second half, running ultra conservative. The Ganado defense completely sold out at the scrimmage line to try to defense EB’s rush, but all that resulted in was three quick touchdown scoring long runs by the Brahmas in the first and early second-quarter. The game was essentially over at that point. Expect EB to bring juuuust a little bit of D to the Pewitt game. The Bohemian Bandits. As I recall they gave Newton a little bit of a tussle last year, after some of you had been predicting 70-0 and 80-0 Newton wins. Surely you remember that one.
