  1. Yes, you are correct. Conflating offense with consequence on my part. Makes me wonder what the course of actions the UIL will take if more get caught recruiting. If coaches will start losing their teaching certificates or more harsh punishment? I guess only time will tell.
  2. Agreed. This was what I was referring too. Obviously, this paper has extreme bias.
  3. That's fast... Especially considering 7th place was a 10.64 which isn't a time to scoff at.
  4. What do you mean "not same exact offense"?
  5. Speaking on a coach getting caught recruiting and the consequences being different. Specifically off the top of my head GP North Shore and San Marcos. Now, of course I am not sure the logistics. Specifically, in how many kids were recruited and how many ended up going to the school. SM we have an idea of how many student athletes were recruited because they have been ruled ineligible until there senior year and is on paper. GP North Shore I haven't seen "how many athletes" he recruited from neighboring schools. This is an article that didn't really give many specifics on who he recruited. https://highschool.si.com/texas/2024/02/28/north-shore-football-coach-suspended-by-uil-for-texas-high-school-recruiting-violations#:~:text=Andrew Cameron%2C North Shore's now,a violation of UIL rules. So, when referring to the same exact offense, I mean as in "recruiting". Much like theft. I could steal a dollar and someone else could steal one million dollars. Same offense. But of course the consequence would be worse for the person who stole the million dollars. So the GPNS and the SM reference might not be the best reference on my part. But, it was the only one off the top of my head since both teams are big schools.
  6. One thing that is being pointed out is the lack of consistency of consequence being handed down by the UIL. We have seen some get a slap on the wrist to teams and the hammer brought down on some teams. All while committing the same exact offense in the last couple of years. UIL is losing its credibility in some areas. Of course many coaches will say. If everyone did the right thing, had integrity, and didn't recruit and played by the rules then we wouldn't have to worry about these problems. Touché. Good point.
  7. What is a small school (3a or below) you would have loved to coach at? Any role it doesn't matter (asst, HC, coord etc.)
  8. With all the transplants Texas is getting from other states. I think there should be a 7a for next realignment. Obviously, I do not thing that will happen. But just the way the landscape is with the population going up. It is inevitable that it will have to happen sooner than later. Especially so there isn't such a big gap in enrollment.
  9. I was working in a major school district. Had many high schools and the Athletic director had a some state titles and slid into a straight A.D. role. Good coach and good man. I remember he said "if you get caught recruiting you are going to get fired. But if you don't recruit you will probably get fired." No, he didn't say this in a huge meeting or anything this was in personal conversations with other HC's. But he is right. First, you have to do everything you can to keep your talent at your school especially if you are in a big metropolis area. This includes recruiting your own Jr. highs and recruiting your own dang H.S. Plus you never know, there could be talent walking the halls and you don't know it. Also, if there are sharks in the water and you do not go out and actively hunt you will starve. Unfortunately, recruiting is part of the business in some way shape or form. Because many of us have been on the losing end when a star athlete or athletes leave your school for a "better" school and when that happens you already know because of losses that season you might be looking for another job. It sucks because you wish it wasn't a part of the job.
  10. Could the kid have gotten anaphylactic shock? Possibly. Luckily they didn't sneak it into his food where there would be a major probability that it could have happened. But luckily they didn't. I think the biggest issue is what was their "intent". The problem was they asked him if he would die if he came in contact with peanuts and he replied yes. After learning that he could die, they still decided to do what they did. So, unfortunately for the perpetrators after learning that part many people would jump to "attempted murder". Unfortunately, these kids had major lapses in judgement when it came to hopefully what they though was an innocent prank. But, that of course is the major question of if it was "innocent". Makes you wonder if any of these pranksters had any past behaviors of bullying in the past? Hopefully their character didn't come into question before the incident and this could help them make a case of making a bad decision. There might be legal ramifications, especially with the major blowback. But the way society works now it doesn't look like any colleges are going to give them a chance merely because optics is everything. I am not going to stand on a moral pedestal and say they need to have their life ruined. Even if there were legal ramifications, it seems like some form of justice is already prevailing with their futures being limited. Hopefully, this will serve as a lesson to students and student athletes alike to not do idiotic things. Anyway that's my opinion for it is worth very little.
  11. Since we are close to the playoffs. Wanted to start a thread. Who do y'all got coming out each region? Who y'all got winning it all?
  12. Sounds like he is stepping away from coaching to have more time with family and his grandkids. Says he is still going to work, just doesn't know what job yet. Great career, he deserves it. https://www.victoriaadvocate.com/advosports/tommy-psencik-stepping-down-as-hallettsville-ad-head-football-coach/article_3689b06a-9217-11ed-8570-8f9eb4cd8bfc.html
  13. Many programs have gone away from calisthenics. I wouldn't have believed it if I wasn't in coaching at one time. But a lot of kids now a days have difficulty doing push ups believe it or not. Very sad. One of the causes of Rhabdo is too many muscle tears. Not hard to believe the kids that probably slack off in the workouts when being held accountable to do every rep, that this could happen. Especially when doing a full body exercise. Many of these kids abdominals were probably sprained because of how weak their core is. But from the indication they were not peeing any blood so it sounds like severe tendon sprains and muscle sprains. Say what you will. Unfortunately it will always be on the coach whether that is right or wrong doesn't matter. From the optics in the general population it's always going to be your fault as the coach in charge.
  14. <iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fannehalsey%2Fposts%2Fpfbid02NcTVvPAZRH1BNF2o9pVJ6mz6oEWPQs9n397VcmJm5TpUNzeF13zhdPo7T5QECGMJl&show_text=true&width=500" width="500" height="775" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true" allow="autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share"></iframe> Apparently this is the San Marcos version of events. Looks like there is some evidence of NB reporters being misleading. Have to copy paste the link.
  15. I know right now is Lehman, White Oak, Cedar Hill, Caldwell, Boerne, Trinity, and Schulenburg.
  16. Not classy by the San Marcos staff. But I am sure the backstory has to do with the recruiting. On a side note NB isn't exactly a great environment to play in either. I remember my son's team played NB the past couple of years in football and basketball and told me about the racial epithets that were said by NB's players and things being yelled in the stands. Won't say what was said but you can infer. Either way the opposing team, spectators, and reporters should have been accommodated.
  17. That doesn't sound like Jefferson got lucky? That sounds like Tatum pooped the bed and didn't execute when they should have. The better team won. If the game wasn't delayed Jefferson would have won handily. Of course I am making an assumption just like you did. Any way the better team won.
  18. Well looks like Jefferson is a little different this year. It will be interesting to see how this district will fare in the playoffs.
  19. Well assuming both Tatum and Jefferson takes care of business this Friday that leaves a awesome matchup for the district title October 28th! Going with Jefferson.
  20. Yes Guyer is the real deal. Definitely didn't expect it to get ugly like it did. But man Guyer looked crisp on both sided of the ball. Allen still a good football team. Just one of those nights for them.
  21. Going for Prairiland just because of their mascot.
  22. Going with Jeffy by the slimmest of margins. Like spaghetti stick slim.
  23. A lot of times if you are driving at a larger school depending on the team you coach you will be driving Thursday and Friday. Many times on Thursday night I dropped off the bus around 10:30 or later and then repeated the same thing Friday. I never complained about it, but can you at least pay the coaches somewhat close to what a normal bus driver would make, if they were to make the trip. I get School Districts wanting to save money. But understand you are asking coaches to do. You want us to get a CDL which is a whole other career somewhat, do a pre trip inspection, and then when we drop off the bus at 10 or 11 at night and do the post trip inspection. Come on now. Sorry for the whining session.
  24. Eagleborn and I just like to banter. Nothing personal. Big fan Silky Johnson. I strive to be like you and hope to get that Playa Hata of the Year award someday!
  25. Rapist vibes much? Is this the form you give to your victims. That’s a different type of psychopath.
