  1. No it wont be anything like that… They are going to keep majority of the roster. There will be some players leave, they will add some players, and the world keeps turning.
  2. I have no inside info on this other than I’ve been told they would not just fire Jimbo without a plan/guy in mind. They believe the roster pieces are in place to compete for a title next year and they want to hire someone that will have them in the top 12 and in the playoff in year one. The hire will be someone they believe is enough to keep the roster in place and not have to start over. My guesses the short list includes a couple tiers. Tier 1 is the splash hires of Oregons Lanning, Washington’s coach, or Utahs. Tier 2 is hiring a HC with experience but still has some proving to do and comes cheaper than the list above. Traylor and Elko fit that. Tier 3 is they promote Elijah Robinson and leave the entire staff mostly in tact at a good price. Turn full control of the offense over to Petrino and let him keep what assistants he wants and change the scheme however he sees fit. Elijah Robinson is an elite relationship builder and one of the best recruiters in the country. He lets you keep the class and roster together because the players love him and defensively they are playing well. A few offensive changes without Jimbos interference and this team could make huge jumps in literally a few practices imo. I expect this offense to look MUCH better against LSU and probably win building big momentum into the bowl game.
  3. So they can let the shockwave settle this week and have the hire announced by first week of December.
  4. I do not expect an up and comer in the sense of a power 5 type guy making a move. I expect it to be the type of hire to turn a few heads.
  5. I’m not near high enough on the donor list to get that type of concrete information. What I have heard is that they would not fire Jimbo this year without having a top 2 name on their coaching hotboard committed to taking over. They were willing to give Jimbo another year unless they got THE guy they wanted. I also expect it to happen quickly. They want to have someone named by first week of December to try to salvage the class.
  6. I believe the timing means they got the confirmation the guy they wanted is going to accept the job. They were not going to pay 100+ mil in buyouts without having their guy already lined up. I expect a hire to be announced the week after the last regular season game.
  7. I agree the market has been reset. The issue is not the per year dollar figures. Hes like the 5th highest paid coach in the sec alone. The issue is/was the guaranteed money and length. You can absolutely still get a good coach for the same amount per year, just structure it where he has to perform to get extended and the money is not all guaranteed if he fails. I will say my belief is the hire is already agreed behind closed doors. They are making this known today so they can get a jump on saving the recruiting class and be ready to name the new guy as soon as the season ends.
  8. It’s a totally different ballgame. The atmospheres and the venues are on a different level.

  11. The legitimate answer, is Aggies are their own worst enemy. For starters the university struggled recruiting for most everything pre 1970s because of the university didn’t even allow non corps members and women to enroll until the 60s. That really effected recruiting for 60ish of those 121 years you speak of. They did well in the 80s and 90s and looked to be turning the corner as a consistent program until the big 12 merger and the hires of Mack Brown and Bob Stoops. Having your two biggest in state threats hiring two of the most successful coaches of those storied programs histories at the same time didn’t help the Aggies in turning the corner. They money whipped Franchione from Bama in what looked like it could have been their attempt to keep pace, but he proved to be a dud. After that they were broke and hired a good ole boy in Mike Sherman who was never really a good hire to begin with. The real missed opportunity came with Sumlin. He was the guy that they got for a good price and showed the type of recruiting prowess it took to finally challenge Texas and OU on the trail. He had instant success in the big time sec move and the Aggies rallied him to raise 750 million dollars in less than a year to build new facilities making them top 5 in the country in that area. The sky was the limit. Then the Aggies knee jerked into extending Sumlin and he became set for life and became a lazy alcoholic who basically mailed it in his final 3 seasons.
  12. I agree the who do you get question is the big one. IMO you take a different approach than the Fisher hire. You don’t go after the guy who’s proven. You take a chance on a young guy whos hungry. Someone who is going to be coaching like their career depends on it instead of a coach that has accomplished everything he wanted and is now just drawing big checks. Hire the young guy, fill his staff with elite X’s and O’s guys and fix the lack of urgency this program has.
  13. Finishing 2-2 in that stretch is expected. 3-1 would be an absolute win. 4-0 would be like winning the lottery. This team is talented in certain areas but has several holes and is poorly coached. Jimbo just lost his job this week. A win would have kept him alive but it’s over now. He very well may be here another year, but his job is gone the minute the money is raised to fire him.
  14. This has been a tough couple of weeks to watch. The defense is doing enough but the offense just can’t get it done with Max. He’s got tools he’s just not a gamer.
  15. Cincinnati Washington Texas A&M Kansas South Carolina TCU Kansas State USC Miami UCLA *Tiebreaker: A&M-Tennessee total points 58
  16. If Durkin blitzes like he has the last two weeks, A&M wins. If A&M sits back in coverage like they did vs Miami, they will lose.
  17. Utah BYU Florida Texas A&M Texas Texas Tech Ole Miss Memphis Notre Dame TCU *Tiebreaker: USC total points vs Colorado 63
  18. Penn st for me is not that they beat Iowa, it’s that they absolutely dominated them in a way a top 10 team should. 31-0 in a ranked matchup is flex for sure.
  19. Very true. Especially that last part. Then we will start the yearly β€œthis isn’t a real playoff” threads!
  20. Florida State Oklahoma Texas A&M TCU Alabama Utah Oregon Oregon State Texas Notre Dame *Tiebreaker: Colorado-Oregon total points 80
  21. LSU Kansas State Virginia Tech North Texas North Carolina Tennessee Ole Miss West Virginia TCU Fresno State @ Arizona State *Tiebreaker: A&M total points vs UL Monroe 49
  22. Only 3 coaches in all of college football have proven to be worth their salaries. It’s not a simple one word answer. The market dictates the coaches pay not their results. Saban doesn’t make exponentially more than other coaches even though he’s achieved for more. The market sets the standard not the success of the coach. Like I said only about 3 have β€œearned” their salary just yet.
  23. Follow the bouncing ball… I’m not talking about Texas or any specific team. I’m saying that in preseason polls it’s fine to make judgements based off previous season results and roster returning. But after the first week it should not matter anymore for Texas or anyone else. In week 2 you shouldn’t still be punishing or rewarding a team for what happened 9 months ago.
