  1. People should not underestimate how well Meador knows Owens defense. I captained Owens defense at sam-LB. There are consistent inconsistencies to his play calling for DL stunts, blitz packages and the switching between man-1, cover 2, and zone 3. In short, his play calling can be gamed if you understand the scheme Owens was taught at SFA. Meador will exploit SS play calling with inferior talent, and it will be fun to watch! I think Lindale wins win less talent, just like last year. I predict a shoot out with SS unable to stop the Lindale spread.
  2. I see Simmons at a number of the AAU basketball tournaments in Texas. The guy is somewhat connected in Texas basketball circles, so moving to a bigger town like Rockwall is not surprising. I guess I was more surprised he stayed in Lindale for 9 years. Following in Dick Stringfellow's footsteps wasn't easy.
  3. Gillespie is a stand up guy, no doubt. He has been extremely kind every time I talked to him this year. He also has been at 3 of the AAU tournaments I went to (on Sunday's), so I know he was workin his tail off. Here is the problem. BCG had verbally accepted the Arkansas position in January. He was working his way out of College Station three months ago. When he found out he was 5th in line for the Kentucky job, and actually had a great chance to land it, he played his verbal agreement at Arkansas to get a bigger deal from the Igs, only to parlay that brand new Ig contract the next week into a 500K raise at Kentucky. The guy is all business and very ambitious. I think it is very interesting to see a basketball coach smart enough to run his career like a business. UK is a top 5 national program. Aggies have nothing to be upset about...Gillespie made a decision that every other coach in basketball would have made. In all honesty, most aggies would work for the longhorns if you offered them a 500K a year raise to move to Austin. In the real world, Gillespie made the right decision and did it in the only way possible.
  4. Igs are just upset Barnes was the second coach called after Donovan, and Barnes wouldn't talk to UK.
  5. The only bridges BCG burned are with iggie alumni who can't look at a situation logically and without emotion.
  6. What do graduation rates have to do with qualifying with the NCAA clearinghouse? I think GabeHorns was talking about offering scholarships to high school kids with a -C- average GPA, and standardized test scores not close to the NCAA minimum of 17 on the ACT.
  7. Calhoun needs to qualify. His recruitment will take off if he can convince area recruiters he can get into school.
  8. I can't pull for SOC when Jazzy Hartwell strolls through the gyms in Oak Cliff. Using AAU teams as a conduit to pay high school kids to transfer and wear certain shoes is just wrong. AAU basketball makes me throw up in my mouth.
  9. I was going to post the exact same thing. Best high school dunker I have seen in 10 years was Kevin Rogers at SOC. The best high school game with dunks I have seen was the above with Darrell Arthur and Rogers in the state championship game. It was simply unbelievable.
  10. Calhoun will be going JUCO. The Longhorns are not a serious option right now.
  11. Starting a competitive men's AAU basketball team is a little more complicated than some here seem to understand. You would need to start with a financial benefactor who will sponsor some serious serious cash. Almost all the top AAU basketball teams here in DFW have six figure budgets. The teams that are currently cherry picking East Texas talent have full-time coaches that have $100,000+ annual salaries paid by the shoe companies to recruit top east texas talent. If you want to compete, you will also have to account for the travel/flight budgets for a team or staff of around 15. I am not saying it can't be done, but you have a steep hill to climb. You are going to need to get a connected coach that can pull top players together. They're hard to find. If you get that person, you're going to need someone to fundraise full-time (or land a blue chip recruit and Adidas/Nike will sponsor you). There is a reason all the top East Texas players are driving to Houston or Dallas for their AAU ball.
  12. Lonnie Edwards from Brownsboro is a decommit from Baylor and is now going to Texas Tech. Can't say I am happy, but congrats to Tech fans. He is going to be really really good in about 3 years.
  13. I'm confused about football season? Lindale fired their coach last year. SS hires the fired coach. SS plays Lindale this year - with a head coach that knows everything about the Lindale players - and Lindale took it to SS. Basketball won't be much different. :D:D:D:D Good luck this week.
