  1. Does anyone have an update on the injury to the Alto QB?
  2. Thanks for the reply...Would be great if Alto/Groveton could get back on schedule with each other...lots of history between those two.
  3. As an oft beaten opponent of the Indians back in the 80s, it pains me to think I'm wondering this but what kind of talent does Groveton have coming into the pipeline in the next few years? They have arguably been one of the top programs in Texas.
  4. Anyone know where Lennon Creer landed?
  5. Does anyone know where I can find district track meet results for East Texas schools? Specifically, District 21-A (Alto)?
  6. Does anyone have the results from Alto's track meet on 2/25?
  7. I think the EF fans will really enjoy the stadium in Brownwood, in addition to the town...Very nice/clean...Looks like you'll have great weather as well. The stadium is not huge, but very nice and a perfect size for a 2A c'ship game! Good luck!
  8. ...this is just an article from today's Austin paper...thought you Tatum fans would find it interesting
  9. Article from 12/5/07 Austin American Statesman AMERICAN-STATESMAN STAFF Wednesday, December 05, 2007 Salado's last five football opponents have been unable to run, pass, or, in some cases, breathe. It might be an understatement to say the Eagles play suffocating defense. In that span, Salado has outscored its opponents 217-7. No inhaling. No exhaling. "When you're flying around on defense, you have a chance to match up with whoever you're playing," Eagles coach Jeff Cheatham said Tuesday. In what should be their toughest game of the fall, Salado (13-0) plays defending Class 2A champion Tatum (12-1) in a state semifinal game Saturday night in Corsicana. The Eagles have blanked four of their past five opponents, including playoff victories over Hitchcock (47-0) and Santa Rosa (60-0). Again, Salado will bank on a defensive unit that takes pride in its "11 all the time" motto. This is a team with no superstars, no prima donnas, the coach said. Many of the players have been friends since elementary school, which has built a close-knit team that dines on opposing offenses. "We're kind of a family that always sticks up for each other," said senior middle linebacker Josh Bush, the team's leader with 151 tackles. "We've got a tremendous amount of pride on this unit, and we take each week as a different challenge." Bush gets support from teammates such as free safety Matt Fritsch (138 tackles) and strong safety Leo Galvan (128 tackles). The air-tight defense has beaten all challengers with amazing ease. Salado has allowed a total of 77 points this fall, about six per game. Only three teams have managed to gain more than 200 yards. Salado already has set a school record for victories in a season and is seeking its first state football championship. District 25-2A opponents have had a bird's-eye view of Salado's defense. The Eagles beat Academy 49-7, Florence 44-0, Lago Vista 33-7, Rosebud-Lott 47-0 and Rogers 35-3. "Salado (coaches) were smart enough to realize that getting their players in the right position would go a tremendous way in any success they would have," Rogers coach John Stillwell said. "They are very sound in their alignments and assignments while bringing just enough blitzes to make you cognizant of that capability." It's a defense with no major weaknesses, Jarrell coach Randy Franklin said. "What sticks out in my mind is the size with their defensive linemen," Franklin said. "Not only are they big and physical, but they have good footwork. "Many times at this level you go up against a big kid that is just big and many times plays soft. Salado up front has some kids that are really good athletically along with good size." Bush said many current Eagles got their start in tackle football while playing in a Salado youth league when they were fifth- or sixth-graders. Defensive players such as defensive tackle Dallas Butts, defensive end Blake Heller and linebackers Patrick Prince and Colin Smith have helped Salado limit opponents to an average of 171 total yards per game. Cheatham called this week's opponent, fourth-ranked Tatum, "one of the best teams in the state." If that's true, where does Salado rank? The coach will wait until Saturday before giving an answer. 10. Heres the Granger team page from the Austin American Statesman...Hopefully you can open w/out registering. The one loss they have is to 2A Blanco, which just lost to Idalou this past weekend. This should be a good matchup. Go Jackets! http://www.statesman.com/sports/content/sp...ls/Granger.html
  11. How about unranked Alto against #1 Forney in bi-district, 1981? Alto hadn't been to the playoffs in 20 years and Forney was a powerhouse returning from a semi-final appearance in 1980. The game was played in Lindale on a cold night and Alto won 16-6...This was the start of of a 25 year run of good teams.
  12. Which places advance to regionals from the 1A Area meets? Also, what places from district advanced to the Area meets?
  13. Was bouncing around the UIL archives and ran across the 1985 boy's 200 results. Arguably, the greatest collection of high school sprinters ever. Its easy to spot all of the 20. times, but 2nd-6th were also very fast in all classes and some of these guys came back 1-2 yrs later and ran faster times (Florence & Lofton for example). http://www.uil.utexas.edu/athletics/archiv...sults/index.htm
  14. Anybody out there have any district meet results to post? Alto results would be appreciated.
  15. Steve Lofton's bests in high school were 10.3 & 20.7, however, he was one of those guys who could ALWAYS go lower...Some of the big names he beat were Tony Jones and Michael Johnson...From his Soph-Sr. years, he never lost a race (9 state gold medals in 100/200/sprint). In my opinion, he could have been a world class trackster had he not gone the pro football route. Just an unbelievable talent who could do it...
