  1. Again, that's nice. Do you give "every dime" anonymously? It's a simple yes or no question, yet for some reason you continue to avoid it.
  2. I'd have to answer... Extremely inept parents/gold diggers.
  3. Geez... The taxes on the tithe are returned by 'Caesar'. The church keeps the entire tithe, not theoretically but actually. If he doesn't claim an available deduction then he isn't taking ALL available deductions... as you aren't. This isn't that difficult. It's, in fact, quite basic. Neither of my children would spend the night with any adult.
  4. Is someone goading you? No matter the income, NONE of the tithe is returned. If MedMan doesn't deduct his tithe, he isn't taking all of his available deductions, provided he itemizes. Regardless, he said he doesn't. I have no idea how you missed that. Is there a big deal?
  5. Wow... This is not a matter of what's 'write' or wrong. If not claiming available tax deductions is something you enjoy, then perhaps you'd like not claiming your children. My, those pesky loopholes! When someone gives $5000 to the church then claim the donation on their taxes, the church still has $5000. However, the giver is refunded the tax withholding on the $5000. I haven't figured out where the calf and burnt offering fit in there... you may have though. God gets the tithe; Caesar gets the income taxes. Caesar, being a magnanimous fella, allows you not to pay taxes on that which you give to God. They aren't intertwined at all. I never said the EIC was right. I said anyone that qualifies for it and doesn't claim it is an absolute mooncalf. One more thing, if you want larger tax returns then have more withheld from your check… On the other hand, there’s always claiming your tithe. BTW... my experience is that when someone claims they tithe in cash, they are more concerned with preventing people from knowing what they aren't giving rather than what they are giving.
  6. I said you're wrong because you said deducting charitable donations was like a loan. Clearly, it is nothing like a loan. The EIC is an available tax deduction (really a credit) to those that qualify, as are charitable donations. Explain how this has anything to do with ethics, values, or principles.
  7. No, you ARE wrong. Deducting taxable donations on your tax return is NOTHING like a loan. In addition, if you do not deduct for charitable giving then you most certainly pay taxes on the gift. I must say, I'm taken aback with your admission that you do not utilize each of your available deductions then rail against those that claim the earned income credit. While I disagree with the EIC, anyone that qualifies and doesn't claim it is an absolute mooncalf. BTW... this has absolutely nothing to do with ethics.
  8. Romans 13:1-7 NIV says... 1 Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. 4 For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. 5 Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience. 6 This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants, who give their full time to governing. 7 Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor. Your government says that you do NOT owe taxes on charitable donations.
  9. Wrong. Claiming the deduction just means you aren't paying tax on the donation. Nothing like a loan at all.
  10. That's nice... but, do you give "every dime" anonymously?
