  1. Carolyn Burnham: Uh, whose car is that out front? Lester Burnham: Mine. 1970 Pontiac Firebird. The car I've always wanted and now I have it. I rule! Lester Burnham: [narrating] I had always heard your entire life flashes in front of your eyes the second before you die. First of all, that one second isn't a second at all, it stretches on forever, like an ocean of time... For me, it was lying on my back at Boy Scout camp, watching falling stars... And yellow leaves, from the maple trees, that lined my street... Or my grandmother's hands, and the way her skin seemed like paper... And the first time I saw my cousin Tony's brand new Firebird... And Janie... And Janie... And... Carolyn. I guess I could be pretty #### off about what happened to me... but it's hard to stay mad, when there's so much beauty in the world. Sometimes I feel like I'm seeing it all at once, and it's too much, my heart fills up like a balloon that's about to burst... And then I remember to relax, and stop trying to hold on to it, and then it flows through me like rain and I can't feel anything but gratitude for every single moment of my stupid little life... You have no idea what I'm talking about, I'm sure. But don't worry... you will someday. American Beauty

  3. I'm a little surprised that many of the conservatives on this board are wishing Mr. Kennedy the worst... Your opinion of him doesn't matter, the Bible tells you to pray for and love your enemies. Don't get me wrong, I'm more conservative now, and I don't like to mix religion and politics anymore, but I don't think it's right to use the Bible as your defense at times, but then wish death on another man. Even if he killed a woman, doesn't Jesus teach that all sin is equal in the eyes of God? Practice what you preach... I'll be praying for a speedy recovery for Mr. Kennedy, and I'll be praying for comfort for his family. Terminal illnesses are very tough to deal with.
  4. Very true. You'd think the Obama camp would have asked for a setlist or something.
  5. There are (generally) not bad dogs, only bad owners. I personally have never had an American Bulldog, but I do own an English Bulldog. He's very muscular, has an extremely strong jaw, and I'm sure he could kill a person in an attack. English Bulls are an aggressive breed (as I found out from MANY insurance companies), as they were bred for bull baiting. However, I never beat my dog, I never purposefully mistreated him, and he has never been aggressive with any person other than a man who broke into my apartment. I found this on the "interweb" and thought it shed a little light on the topic. A study performed by the American Veterinary Medical Association, the CDC, and the Humane Society of the United States, analyzed dog bite statistics from the last 20 years and found that the statistics don't show that any breeds are inherently more dangerous than others. The study showed that the most popular large breed dogs at any one time were consistently on the list of breeds that bit fatally. There were a high number of fatal bites from Doberman pinschers in the 1970s, for example, because Dobermans were very popular at that time and there were more Dobermans around, and because Dobermans'size makes their bites more dangerous. The number of fatal bites from pit bulls rose in the 1980s for the same reason, and the number of bites from rottweilers in the 1990s. The study also noted that there are no reliable statistics for nonfatal dog bites, so there is no way to know how often smaller breeds are biting.
  6. If only the Democratic Party would follow Joe Lieberman... Just like Ronald Reagan, I didn't leave the Democratic Party, the Democratic Party left me. Democrats are responsible for the complete wussification of America. Democrats today care more about the opinion of America hating Frenchies than they do the safety and success of their own country. They take stances based on what so called "intellectuals" have to say, not by what affects the common man. The people in charge seem to care more about fish and trees than they do people. They claim to be a party of change, and they are... things have gotten a lot worse. When the Democrats took over Congress, one of the main items on their "agenda" was to deal with rising gas prices. They've doubled since then. They're a party of ideas, but not a party of action... big talk, no walk. They're a party of do-as-I-say, not as-I-do politics. They claim to be the party of the little man, but raise taxes every time they get a chance. That might be good enough for you, but it's not for me.
  7. Reagan did line his pockets... by having a successful career before becoming President. I don't really think he picked up much coin by trading weapons to get our people back... could just be me, but I doubt it.
  8. I don't understand why the courts are being so sympathetic to this cult... I'm sure they wouldn't be so sympathetic to the Baptist Church, Boy Scouts, Little League coaches, etc., etc. Sometimes I wonder where the cajones that Texas used to proudly display have gone. Kinda sad when you think about it.
  9. Small time struggling bands would probably play a Timothy McVeigh sympathy party if it would get them a record deal or sell their record.
  10. I was a little scared for Obama (if he wins) because of the deep rooted, old school racism that's still around in America, but now, not so much. At least with Hillary as his VP he won't have to worry about an assassination attempt as much.
  11. I betcha the Decemberists are a little ticked off that they didn't get any media attention!
  12. We've used less than 1/3 of the oil that is in Texas. There are still over 100 billion barrels of oil that have yet to be produced right here in the Lone Star State. Not to mention the near 200 billion that are on the continental shelf, and more in Alaska, Louisiana, etc. Prices are high because demand is high, and partially because of OPEC. We can't control demand because of other countries, i.e. China, India, etc., but we can control supply. Up oil production and build more refineries... prices will fall because supply will raise, more jobs are created for Americans, the economy gets a good boost, and we drop some dependence on foreign countries. It's simple economics. All of this cutting back on energy nonsense is, well, just that. We're all already hurting from the high prices, and now Obama wants to make my life uncomfortable by trampling my personal freedoms. Good luck trying, bub. Not gonna happen. I'll drive my truck because I like it, I'll leave my A/C on whatever I want, and I'll eat however much I want, because I'm entitled to do what I want with my money. Last time I checked, I didn't live in a socialist society, and America wasn't a cult.
  13. It might just be me, but I wouldn't really want my buddies spraying a bunch of pepper spray on the guy I'm on top of... Could just be me though. I hear most cops love getting pepper spray up their nose and in their eyes.
  14. I've listened to all three... problem is, they are not very mainstream. That's three rappers out of thousands, and they aren't really ever played on the radio. They don't represent a very large demographic... Most rap glorifies drug dealers, pimps, murderers, etc., etc. You can't argue that. Everyone from Ludacris to Jay-Z to the newest phenomenon of Lil Wayne.
  15. Call me Wyatt Earp, but if I had to arrest murders, I'd try to beat them unconscious first... not worth it to die because you didn't want to use too much force.
