  4. The weekend after Thanksgiving usually means a lot of great football games and people waking up in the wee hours of Black Friday, when you can join the mass of people trying to save a few bucks on Christmas shopping (No thanks.) But there will also be some good high school basketball in the area. Here is a news release I received today about the D/FW Metroplex Hoops ThanksgivingHoopfest: D/FW Metroplex Hoops, in conjunction with radio station K104‐FM, is preparing to host the second annual D/FW Metroplex Hoops Thanksgiving Hoopfest on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 26 and 27, at the revered Sandra Meadows Arena on the campus of Duncanville High School . The event has quickly become one of the premier Thanksgiving basketball events in the state of Texas. Last year's Hoopfest featured more than 1,500 spectators and included several of Texas' most respected programs, as well as the top‐ranked teams from Oklahoma, Louisiana and Mississippi. This year's field will include six teams that advanced to the finals of their respective state tournaments, including defending state champions Prestonwood Christian Academy out of Plano , Hall High School out of Little Rock, Ark., Douglass High School out of Oklahoma City and Riverside (La.) Academy out of Reserve, La. Douglass recently was ranked No. 7 in the nation by Rivals.com. The Hoopfest, in addition, will include some of the nation's highly touted college recruits. LeBryan Nash of Dallas Lincoln HS is ranked among the top 10 in several national Class of 2011 polls. Jamal Branch of Arlington Grace Prep Academy, another 2011 standout, is a top‐five player in Texas who has orally committed to play for Texas A&M. Grace Prep 2012 center Isaiah Austin, a 7‐foot Baylor commitment, and Prestonwood Christian Academy 2013 forward‐center Julius Randle are consensus top‐three players nationally in their classifications. Other talented players among the state expected to participate include 2012 guard‐forward Marcus Smart (Flower Mound Marcus HS), 2011 forward Jarion Henry (Dallas Kimball HS), 2012 forward‐center Zach Peters (Prestonwood Christian Academy) and 2013 guard Kendal Harris (Richardson Berkner HS) and 2011 forwards Jonathan Holmes and Darrious Hamilton (San AntonioAntonian Prep). Out‐of‐town standouts include 2011 David Rivers (Little Rock Hall), 2012 Ricardo Gathers (Riverside Academy) and 2013 Stephen Clark (Oklahoma City Douglass).
