  1. I'm not sure where I'm at with this SS team. They have a lot of talent, lots of speed, not a whole lot of size and quite a few injuries. I missed the LE scrimmage, but from what I heard they put it on us but to their due...I hear that LE will be a contender this year. I went to the royse city scrimmage and SS dominated on both sides of the ball, but I don't know much about RC and I believe they are still rebuilding. SS was going toe to toe with Lee until Ivory went down early in the 2nd qtr, after that we had a couple more RB injuries and it just seemed like our boys lost faith and got down on their selves and rode that all the way to a pretty big blowout. Our QB was out until sometime in the 4th, I guess he was dehydrated and was getting fluids. SS is a better team than what they showed last Friday, they just have to learn to play as a team and not put all their faith in 1 or 2 players. Yes it hurts bad when you lose your #1 offensive weapon, but that can happen any play...got to fight through adversity. I'm not sure if I agree on the coaching tactics of SS, not bashing, just not making sense to me. We took our #1 defensive player and moved him to QB, which he is an exceptional athlete, been starting since his Frosh year and if he picks the position up and learns it then he will be exceptional with his abilities. They are also planning on playing him at S also....that can make some tired 4th qtrs that leads to the L column. Now he didn't play much D last Friday, but he was also out getting fluids for the entire 3rd qtr. We moved our 2nd string QB that split time with Macek last year to LB this year. May be more to that than I realize, heard some things. We have a few starters out due to injury that may be out all season from what I understand. Here is my problem, Lee tore us up in the passing game, we had blown coverage after blown coverage. Which that happens, we have got some young DB's, one is a freshman. That is a lot to learn in 1 year from 8th grade to Varsity. He's a good kid with a lot of talent and will be a huge assets for us, but I believe he is playing on the wrong side of the ball, he should be running the ball right beside Ivory, IMO. If we had our FS playing safety and not QB I believe the score would not have been like it was. Our QB from last year is probably a better defensive player too. Our otherQB, Aguilar did ok. He's probably not going to fill the stands with recruiters, but I think he can develop and handle the position. He has a lot of heart and will not lay down. I also think we need to take a long hard look at the JV and see if there is any worthy of a promotion. We need a little more depth at the next level. Tough game for us this week, if we don't free some injured reserve up it could be a long night.
  2. I heard through the grapevine that Rollison is QB1. I think he's got his head on straight now, still has 2 years of eligibility left from being red shirted at AU and a medical red shirt at SHSU. He's also close to home so he can have some family help guide him. He played about 5 or 6 games in 2011 with TJC and started in 2012 taking them to a conference championship, named conference offensive MVP and also was named 3rd team All-American. TAMCU may surprise some folks this year, hear they got a great core of receivers and with TR at the helm??? Records could be broken????
  3. I was calling a JV game a couple of years ago and the coach on my side didn't agree with the pass interference I called. He says to me "If you keep making calls like that you will always have a job reffing at this level." I respond "Coach, if you keep coaching the way you are you will always have a job at this level too." Didn't hear anything else from him the rest of the game.
  4. I think I heard on the radio this morning that SS is favored by 3 in the Harris ratings. This game may be closer than everyone thinks. SS can't come out and give up 21 points to start the game like they did against J'ville, they have to come out hitting on all cylinders on both sides of the ball. Bastrop's QB Josiah Monroe is a huge threat and has to be contained.
  5. It's really hard to know what Bastrop has. Their QB looks really good, but when you look at the strength of the teams that they have played it just makes you wonder how good they really are. Bastrop has played teams that have a combined record of 36-66. Out of the 11 teams they have played only 3 had winning records and the only one they beat was Corsicana. SS has played teams that have a combined record of 53-62. 5 of them had winning records loosing to Serman and Denton Ryan which is a top 5 team. Sherman should probably be in the top 10 also. I think SS should handle Bastrop for the fact that they haven't had much competition. They pulled a 4th quarter miracle against Corsicana, but SS had the best come back playoff victory in their history against Jacksonville. It looks like Bastrop is a 1 man team behind their QB. Shutting him down is the key to the game, but he can scramble and he can pass and run. Very hard to bring down, looks like he can wear a defense down. I hate the fact that SS has to travel 2 1/2 hours for an area playoff game, but Bastrop has to travel about the same distance. Kind of makes you wonder how an East Texas team is playing a team that is virtually in Austin for a 2nd round playoff game. Someone is in the wrong region.
  6. Anybody know anything about Bastrop? Looked at the teams they have played and most of them were pretty weak, but they beat Corsicana 55-34 scoring 34 points in the 4th Qtr.
  7. I have to admit that I was ready to throw in the towel in the 1st when Jax went up 21-0, but I have to give props to SS for storming back. Then in the 4th SS was up by 21 with less than 5 min to go and I thought it was over. I have to give Jax some props for not quiting and taking it to the wire. I about had a heart attack, that was a great game. Jax had a very good team, I think they just lack a little playoff experience...this game could have had a completely different outcome. They are scrappy, #85 killed us all night, and they never give up...lots of heart. Jacksonville earned my complete respect tonight. Congrats to SS, lets control our next game a little better. Remember, this is the playoffs...it's win or go home so every team faced is going to battle till the last second ticks off the clock. Let's play for 5 more weeks, just take it one game at a time. Tanner Gilbreath had the game changer tonight with his INT that set SS up for their 1st score, that got us started. Alvin Frazier had a heck of a game along with Justin Owens and Kedrick Daniels, but I have to call Gilbreath the MVP.
  8. I don't have any sons, but I do have two daughters that go to school at SS, I'm just a fan and have meen for over 30 years. I am by no means knocking Jville in any way, the last time I saw them play is when they beat SS in the tomatoe bowl about 8 years ago. I'm also not saying that SS is too fast for Jville, I have no idea about what kind of speed Jville has, but I do know that SS has a lot of team speed at the skilled positions and a lot of size on both sides of the line. I agree that it will probably be a close game and there is no doubt in my mind that the Indians are scrappy. Nothing that has been said is pointless, it's just facts about one team, given out to draw some type of conclusion on what is to be expected in this match up. What else does Jville have besides a QB and a solid defense. They have a good record and have played some tough teams. Who else is standouts on the team? Is the running game good or is it more of a passing threat? Put some information out there, do some bragging on your team and let everyone know what SS is up against.
  9. This team is probably the fastest team SS has ever put on the field. I'm not going to say they are running 4.3's, that is just hard for me to believe that anybody runs that, but the RB's and WR's are running mid 4.4's to low 4.5's. And the RB's and #2, #4 (wr's) can cut on a dime. I don't recall seeing any team be able to track them down once they got loose, they are usually pulling away once they are 10 yds behind the defenders.
  10. IMO, neither team will blow the other one out. This game will be decided by 10 pts or less. I have not seen Jax play, but the outing they showed the other night against JT was impressive. I have heard that they have a really good QB, but he is either hot or cold. SS has continued to grow and get better as a team as the season has progressed. I feel like the shalacking we took from Sherman was the turning point because since that game we have really turned it up. This team is not far behind the 2008 State Championship team. They put points up in a hurry, the QB is not as good as Rollison was but he is well above the average HS QB. Our RB's are very fast and tough to bring down, if they ever get a step ahead both are gone to the endzone. WR's have really improved as the season has gone on. OL has improved tremendously. So, this offense is right on the heels of the 2008 team as far as scoring and producing yardage. The defense is the best we have had in years. They hit hard, cause turnovers, secondary plays the pass very well. They do give up the big play every once in a while, and I have seen at times where they will lay down thinking the game is in the bag and let the other team get back into the game. I am going to go with SS in this game, 45-35. I feel like they will make it to the quarter finals and face Whitehouse for another great matchup...that way everyone's mind will be laid to rest on who should have won the first meeting this year.
  11. TH has heart, they never gave up at all. I agree there were a few bad calls against both teams. I want to go back to the fumble return in the 4th that made the score 45-40. When TH recovered the ball it was tossed forward about a yd and a half to the defensive player that returned it for a TD. That was a forward lateral and should have been called back. If the right call had been made there, the contriversial on-side kick would have never happened. As far as the on-side kick, I have seats on the 50 about 9 rows up. From my view the ball hit a TH player in the shoulder at about 8 yds and then bounced into a SS player. I truly think the ref made the right call. I am not positive, I will have to watch the film, but from my view it was spot on. Sutton is a monster, when he gets to rolling he is very tough to stop. The QB showed a lot of promise and has one heck of an arm. TH should utilize #14 more he made some great catches. SS just focused on Sutton every play. It worked well in the 1st half, but TH made some adjustments and sprung some blocks for him in the 2nd half. He only needs a 1/2 block to do some damage. Good Luck against JT in the playoffs, hope you guys pull an upset.
  12. I don't know much about Marshall this year, but if they have the speed that they have had in the past years they can win against Sherman. I am by no means taking anything away from Sherman, they are a very good team. Don't let the score of the SS/Sherman game fool anyone. This was a very close game through the 3rd quarter. SS made a lot of mistakes that game...7 personal fouls, 5 turnovers (3 int's, 2 returned for TD's and 1 back to the 3). They were poor passes that got the SS QB pulled from the game. I still think Sherman would have probably won the game if none of the mistakes were made, but it would have been with in a TD. Sherman has a very good QB and a heck of a RB, but there D is suspect. Don't allow their QB to scramble because that is when he is dangerous.
  13. Not sure. The freshman A team has lost about 7 or 8 starters due to injuries. Both squads have a lot of talent, but I have no idea what their records are. I'll try and find out.
