  1. Congrats to Gilmer and best of luck on the rest of the season, although I don't think you'll need it. We'll be rooting for you to win it all. Hopefully you and Carthage can win it so we can say our only losses came to state champions.
  2. Here is my unbiased opinion on the whole subject. From looking at the stats, it appears that Gilmer's coach called off the dogs somewhere late in the third or fourth quarter(I wasn't there so I can't verify that). I think where all the claims of running up the score come from scoring the mythical 70 points a couple of times already this year. I myself questioned that when I heard the score. I believe you've got to work your players if you want to win deep into the playoffs, but you can keep the score managable. during the game. Last year, when Carthage was reaming us a new one, their coach would not send in the play until the play clock had almost run down. He began doing this in the second quarter. He was up by 49 points and didn't want to embarass us. His kids still got their work in and everybody left with a lot of respect for the Carthage coach and for their program. It apparently didn't hurt their conditioning late in the playoffs either. I'm not saying the Gilmer coach is right or wrong(cause I truly don't care), just giving what seems to bother some folks on here.
  3. Jasper vs. Carthage- Friday night one game in Woodville. Last year, Jasper was the #3 seed from their district and beat the district champion in a one gamer in the Regional Quarters. Can they do it again?
  4. Correct me if I'm wrong. According to the contract that 643 posted, if I were an official coming to 643's school for a JV and Varsity game, I would make $150 for two games plus $40 mileage fee for each game. So, one official would make $230 for the night and the school would pay either $460 for two officials or $690 if they were fortunate enough to get three officials.
  5. You all sound like the government when you figure up how much you make an hour. Here's how I see it. I stated this in another topic, but here goes again. I have no problem with you getting paid mileage to and from the game, but don't consider drive time in your hourly wage. Where I live, people I know drive almost an hour and a half one way to work in the refineries in Port Arthur. They then work a 12 hour shift and drive home. By your calculations, they should be getting paid for 15 hours. We all know that they are not getting paid that. I agree that you deserve as much money as possible, but don't make ridiculous arguments.
  6. I've sat back and read this and I've finally reached an opinion. The umpires need to figure out some way to work this season under 1204 and negotiate after the season. I believe umpires should make as much money as possible(its a job I wouldn't want), but to hold the kids hostage, is ridiculous. Call the games, fire your leadership and get someone else who will negotiate new terms after the season. Your going to attack me and say that your not holding the kids hostage, but you are. If you don't call, little Johnny's daddy may get certified by some school and have no clue as to what the rules are. Once again, I hope you get as much money as you can, but after you call this season. Also, it has been argued that your mileage pay wasn't good enough, you have to show up thirty minutes early, and tournaments never stay on schedule. In my job, I wish that I would get paid to drive to work and I am always at work before my scheduled time. If I didn't, things wouldn't get done. Tournaments don't always stay on schedule. Well, I do alot of work off the clock in order to help my business grow. That's just part of the job. For the last time, please come to an agreement to work this season and good luck negotiating more money in the offseason. That's the American way.
  7. Great picture. That's what this country needs more of.
  8. K'ville 48 CC 24 K'ville is probably the best 2a in the state. Unless K'ville suffers several injuries, I don't see this game being very close.
  9. If I were a coach, I would do just as the LaVega coach did. Rest your starters and get reps for someone who may get to play in the playoffs at a critical time. I don't believe in throwing a game, but the coach may not have been to upset by a loss. He's paid to do what's best for the kids. If, by going division 1, they go alot farther in the playoffs than if they were division 2, great. That means all of his players get to tell their kids about their long playoff run
