  1. Could be that Mr. Landers is being targeted as the eventual A.D. with Mrs.Landers taking over as the (lone) head women's basketball coach at the time. With the funding, history and community support that the Lady Cards' basketball program garners, I think it is safe to say that there are certainly other qualified coaches without the last name of Landers that could head up the program. After the fiasco with the previous coach, the Landers choice solved a lot of TVCC problems quickly. Also; what happened to coach Lovato? Will she continue on at TVCC?
  2. It appears the organization's public stance is to back Ron W. for whatever reason. However, I believe he is on a short rope and if the team sputters at all coming out of the gate the Rangers will can him quickly, probably a lot faster than they ever would have if all this dope stuff hadn't surfaced. The expectation of this year's team is much greater than last year and the Rangers will use that as the base to fire Ron W. at some point, unless the team does extremely well, and if they do all of Ron W.'s shortcomings will be forgotten.
  3. Good luck to the Lady Panthers! Ya'll keep us updated on things and have safe travels tonight!
  4. Lindale @ Jacksonville = Varsity only at 4 p.m. (sub-varsity canceled) JHS Soccer changes JHS girls @ Center, 2 p.m. Sat. JHS boys vs. Center, 1 p.m. Sat. at Tomato Bowl
  5. Lindale at Jacksonville....no final decison has been made at this time. Both schools are looking at the possibilty of moving the game up to 4 p.m. today or moving it to Saturday.
  6. Nearly lost in the excitement of the day is the fact that tiny Karnack High School is resuming football - the 6-man variety this time. Every true East Texas football fan should attend a game at Karnack before they meet their maker! From the seemingly-long drive northeast of Marshall - a journey where one sees more road kill than human beings - to the "historic" surrounings of the once booming community, to the actual stadium and playing field (this is stuff movies are made of...'playing the role of head coach, Kevin Boykins, is Denzel Washington'---don't laugh, remember 'The Great Debators/Wiley College-stranger things have happened in Hollywood). Hopefully things have improved to where the nearby residents have discontinued the practice of burning their household garbage during the games; talk about a smell you will never forget! Rock on Karnack Indians!!!
  7. Could another assistant coach from Southlake Carroll be heading to East Texas???
  8. Seems prior to every district game people come on here and say whoever J'ville is playing is ready to beat them and why they are ready to beat them. It may be time to just give J'ville a little credit? There is no team in 14-4A that came close to playing the calibar teams in non-district that J'ville did (Trimble Tech, Houston Wheatley, Tyler Lee twice and John Tyler twice) and for that the Indians are a better team now.
  9. I agree...I believe Redwater's colors are blue and white!
  10. Did Rusk back out of the tournament? Rusk is still showing on their Web site where they are playing in the tourney, but I didn't see them in the bracket.
  11. Game 1: Jacksonville 82 Tyler REL 74 JHS now 6-0; Tradarreon Moreland and Ryan Black each scored 23 points.
  12. Dallas Pinkston, Ft. Worth Trimble Tech, Ft., Worth South Hill and Houston Wheatly are the top out of area teams. Tyler Lee and John Tyler are in there as well.
  13. What about former Marshall and former Texas Lutheran head coach Dennis Parker returning to Harrison County? Could this br the mystery person TOC is hinting at????
  14. I would think NE Texas CC would want to start a basketball team first and then go from there. To go from sponsoring baseball, softball and rodeo directly to football is a very big leap!
  15. The tourney is pool play the first two days and then bracket on Sat. NS was missing the big post and the point guard (coaches decision).
  16. I believe J'ville will have Tyler Lee in the first round of the Wagstaff. That is a tall order!
  17. Lobo Stadium has lost games to Bobcat Stadium in Hallsville which I think most consider as an all- around more desirable venue (parking, security, etc.). The newer stadiums are generaly more attractive becaue tehy have al the latest bells and whistles.
  18. I was surprised at the easy Jax had in defeating Crockett....39-6 after one quarter, I believe....Crockett turns the ball over on their first 5 trips down the floor....not sure if Crockett is that bad, or is Jax really that good; afterall, Crockett is supposed to be one of the best teams in thier district according to pre-season reports.
  19. Sooners fall out of Top 25 poll after 10-3 loss at Neb. late Sat. night. Looks like OU could be headed to the Independence Bowl in Shreveport this year! The Sooners' fall could hurt Texas in the BCS picture if No. 1-2-3 get that close. You never know how the computers will process the data sometimes.
  20. Winning a district championship was a goal of Jacksonville's all along...up until some point last week when whomever figured out that regardless of the outcome of the Lindale game, J'ville would get Texas High in bi-district and from that point on the air was let out of the balloon. This is the problem I have on giving up on the district title. If you lose the bi-district game you don't have anything to show for a good season. There is only so much satisfaction from a 7-3 regular-season record. On the other hand, you play hard, be agressive (both on the field and in the play calling), do the things you have done all year to win and go all out for the title and if you win, regardless of what happens in the playoffs, you are district champions. WIth four teams fromm each district going to the playoffs in 4A, any 4A team almost has to win in bi-district to legititmize themselves (look at all the 5-5, 4-6, even 3-7 4A teams in the playoffs that would not be there if only three schools made the playoffs from each district). With so many things having gone wrong against Lindale and so many weaknesses exposed...I don't see how in the long run how that can help a team that is trying to re-establish themselves into a playoff team, year in, year out, especially going up against Texas High who is used to being in the playoffs each year.
  21. Bullard wins, 3-0, over Huntington....will face Brownsboro at 7 p.m. Thur. at All Saints (Tyler). Franklin downs Elkhart 3-2
  22. Lindale @ Henderson JV/9th graders also canceled by rains
  23. To reply to JV Coach......I wouldn't be so quick to take a jab at the way they do things in La.; afterall, if not for La. there would be no Pat Collins or John King at Longview or Mike Vallery at Kilgore, just to name a few...they must know a thing or two about high school football, judiging by the success those three have had in Texas!
