Yea man I don't see how that's relevant to anything I said. I said coaches should leave and chase paydays. Russel thought he made a mistake chasing the money, I don't think he did. He returned to Harmony and coached for 12 years and got mobbed out. Since 2004 there have been 8 years Russel hasn't coached Harmony. They went through 4 coaches in those 8 years. But yea that one time 20 years ago Russel chased a big school and big money adds so much needed depth to the "whole story".

My point is, Russel left Harmony and they gave him a second stint and he did well. He consistently had Harmony in the playoffs. Some parents and administrators thought they had the talent to do more and they were correct.

We don’t have to beat this horse to death every time Harmony is in the news.

Most successful coach in school history by both wins AND the character/ relationship building Ghost was talking about. There are few people that are more respected in the coaching profession than Russel. Considered a high character guy. Had almost every kid in high school athletics, was considered a great boss and had low turnover. Everyone knows he got forced out because of some selfish parents. Hey they got what they wanted Jenkins did well with that group and now they are gone and so is he.

I will never blame a coach for doing what he thinks is best for his family and career. High school coaches are always considered outsiders, and parents will always put their kids over a coach's family, or other kids in the program. Jenkins has gone 1 year, 2 years, 2 years at schools, but has gotten to leave on his own accord and done well at all. Russel invested 15 years at Harmony, called a place home and got mobbed out anyway.

You seem to forget that Russel left Harmony for a bigger payday at Pine Tree. Great guy and he still has plenty of supporters at Harmony but tell the whole story.

  3. Harmony will have talent coming in from the jr high but it’ll be a few years until those kids are ready. The freshman class is pretty good and it’s a big class

The girls athletics is set up to win sooner but schools don’t hire ADs for girls sports.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see a hire from within here.

DeBoer should do well at Bama……unfortunately

We’ll see, the biggest questions for him are recruiting. He’s also never been in the south/southeast, the game is much different down here.

Right now Bama recruits itself but if he has a couple down years or he fails to find a Qb/wr that can mimic what he had at Washington to make his offense go, things could get tricky.

Deboer is a really good offensive mind but we haven’t seen him do it with any Qb other than Penix. Some Bama are going to leave town regardless of who they hired, so we’re going to get to see real quick how he is as a roster manager. At Washington he had 9 sixth year players this season, he’s going to have to build it at Alabama.

Go that route? How do you mean? He's already committed to the Sooner baseball program.

I thought you may have a little insight into Tatum as a person. Kyler wanted to play football more than baseball so him not choosing football isn’t surprising.

I guess my question was more do you know if Tatum prefers football to baseball or if he were a high draft pick would that sway him.

Baseball is my true love so just interested.

  6. I thought Deboer would be the guy but I don’t know if he’s getting a look at the NFL or not.

Lanning and Sark aren’t going to leave their jobs.

I think Dabo would be a disaster.

Kiffin may be content to let someone else take the job for a few years and see if he can be the guy to follow that guy. He’s got a solid team at Ole Miss right now.

Norvell may already have one foot in the plane just waiting for a call after all the stuff FSU has gone through.

I don't think he was at Ohio State a full year .... Even so, he should still be a sophomore, not a senior ....

Oh I agree, I’ve just seen several publications that don’t consider him a RS guy. It doesn’t really matter, barring injury he’ll be nfl bound this time next year.

I think he has spurts where he looks like a day 1 nfl guy, but then he has stretches when he just looks average.

I just don’t see a massive improvement in year 3 with him losing all of his playmakers.

That’s just my opinion though and the transfer portal does exist so it might not be an issue.

I gotcha and totally possible, as you said with the skill departures.

If I believed in Ewers then I could get on the hype train more.

You don’t think he’ll continue his trajectory? Year 2 was much better than year 1 for Ewers. You think he’ll regress in year 3 or do you think he’s topped out?

Honestly curious on your thoughts…unless you’re trolling then ok.

ESPN’s way too early poll has Texas pre-season ranked at #2 behind Georgia.  Thoughts?

All depends on how they replace the pass catchers.

They'll return a 3rd year Qb, 4/5 OL, their best blocking TE, and  both RBs on offense. They should be able to run the ball until the passing game settles in.

On defense they’ll lose 2DTs, 1 LB, 1CB, and 2 safeties. The DTs will be by far the biggest loss. On defense as a whole while they lose some experience, they should be much more athletic.

Order of worry for me - DTs….DBs…..WRs……DE/Edge…..TE…..Big drop off to next…..RB……OL….LBs…...kicking game…..QB

    This is pretty solid.

There will be plenty of battles this spring which will make things more interesting than last spring. Last year things were pretty set, there was IOL battles that were won via injury, so no real battle.

This year you’ll have battles at RB, WR, S, LB, RT, and DT, probably could add LG as well.

Texas has a bunch of young guys looking to crack the rotation from Sarks previous classes but also 17 early enrollees from the 24 class. They’ve brought in a pass rusher, speed receiver, and safety/nickel through the portal thus far and looks like a DT from Houston could be joining soon. Spring practices will bring a lot of intrigue.

Yes, those are all big needs ... I still think the offense needs a difference maker at RB .... Baxter and Blue are not in that category .... without a threat at RB, the better defenses they play will just pin their ears back and come after Ewers ....

Did any of us think Brooks would be the top RB in the country before his injury?

Dont get me wrong, Baxter and Blue need to step up in the spring and summer workouts and continue developing. They’ll get there with more reps and the understanding that they’re the guys now.

(To bring this back to the topic), case in point: Quinn Ewers.

Could he go pro now? Yes. Would he be drafted? Almost certainly.

    So, why stay?

Ewers and his family want him to have 25+ starts at the collegiate level before turning pro. They’ve done research that supports that number as being critical for a QBs success in the NFL.

For Quinn everything he has done has been with the NFL in mind. I don’t think he’d be at Texas now if Sark weren’t the coach. Had he not had the injuries the last 2 seasons he may be leaving school this season.
