  1. I love how everyone passes judgement without actually knowing the family's situation. If indeed the family squandered the money then it is sad and pathetic but to take a loan for a business and have it fail is taking a chance and failing at it but not something people should stand back and call others morons because of it. They were of course given some money but a lot of it was in scholarships and not money that could be used by the family for utilities and taxes. Depending on where the house is located the property taxes were probably between 10-15k a year. Extreme makeover is also currently using a tax loophole that allows the family not to have an income tax on the house but if this loophole is closed then the family could face another $200,000 in taxes and even more in legal fees.
  2. I'm sorry scooter, didn't think you would take so much offense to it.
  3. Wow yall really should go back and re-read the article... If everything went as planned the jumpsuit idea would be a great idea but guess what IT DID NOT. Lets see here are a list of some distractions that have been created because of this: 1. Local media 2. National media 3. ACLU involvement 4. Student rebellion 5. Parents The most distracting of which is number 4. This is something i've told you guys many times but yall are apparently so thick headed i need to say it several more times for it to sink in. The students are rebelling even the student government hates the jumpsuit idea and they are planning ways to disrupt the school and im sure some of you less bright people would say get rid of them and put new student govt in but the new student govt would do the same thing. So for those of you who still haven't got this point because you are so increadibly DIM WITTED: Jumpsuit idea=not bad if everything went as said on paper. Jumpsuit idea=failing because it has now created more distractions via media, students & parents. And i'm sure some of yall still think yall are all-wise and all-knowing and will try to argue but you should go ahead and save your breath(figure of speech) because with every word the true narrowness of your simple mind is coming out
  4. Sorry maybe I was looking at the bigger picture which is beyond some people but i'm not saying the distraction is the clothing itself i'm saying the distraction is the entire situation that has now been created
  5. If they would have left the dress code alone sure there would have been a few people who wore distracting clothes and they would be reprimanded and none of the other students would have been too distracted. Now because of what they have done students are uniting in their protests and rebellion and are planning to make the jumpsuits fashionable. So if they had left the dress code alone there would have been a minimal amount of reprimands and punishment but now there will many acting out and breaking rules and i'm not just making this up, if you read the article they interviewed several of the students and they said they all planned on breaking the rules and making the jumpsuits "cool". So that is how it is a bigger distraction.
  6. I'm sorry if you haven't read all my posts or can't comprehend them. I don't see how yall can't understand how this is just creating a bigger distraction than if they would have left the dress code how it was, it is quite obvious.
  7. I think its the whole "our tax money should go to better use" complaint
  8. yes i know. In fact im pretty sure thats what i've said or implied several times
  9. Only when it creates a distraction to other students. They have created a far bigger distraction by doing this then they should have
  10. School uniforms are bought by students/parents jumpsuits are bought by the district
  11. That would cause even more of a distraction initially. Then parents would get mad and no one on the school board would be re-elected and some parents would remove their children from the school. you know that whole "freedom of expression" thing? That's where it says it.
  12. It has an expiration date? what happens if it expires?
  13. I'm saying that the distraction comes in now because the kids are going to be rebelling against the new idea as the class president said in the article. The students are planning on acting out so that they get in trouble which will cause many more distractions than if they would have just allowed the students to carry on as they were. If you don't know what the first amendment says i can't help you too much...
  14. Well i see 2 major problems first being the first amendment and second being that now the school district is creating a bigger distraciton by doing this. really its not a very well thought out plan by them
  15. He said America has the highest standards for secondary or college education but our k-12th education needs help. I think switching to uniforms would have been the smarter thing here. I'm pretty sure most of the people are going to have to go out and buy new polos now anyways so they might as well have gone ahead and make the uniforms mandatory.
