  1. Great game Maud. I never doubted you for a minute. Congratulations to a deserving, hard working group of guys and to one of the greatest coaching staffs in East Texas history.
  2. Exactly. So, come Friday night the scoreboard will tell the story. The two teams need to keep the game clean with good sportsmanship and good, hard-hittin', Texas high school football with good calls by the refs. I pray for the safety of all the players and that the fans (on this thread and at the game) control their language and actions...........and just let the guys do their job and have fun on the field. For a number of them, this could end up being their last high school football game. Let them have their time.
  3. There should be NO EXCUSES mentioned for losing a game - - for ANY team for ANY reason. A loss is a loss. Final result is shown on the scoreboard and that's the bottom line. Everyone seems to have an excuse for a loss. Excuses don't change the score. We have to accept those times and move on. If Alto has been up and down as someone mentioned, there's a reason for doubt in performance for the upcoming game. If Hawkins is "UP" for this game, I still believe it's going to be very close. From all comments on this thread, Hawkins seems to be the underdog, however, you need to keep in mind that sometimes it's the underdog with the advantage because of being the underdog. (Just a little something to think about!!!)
  4. Hawkins didn't play Quinlan Boles. They played Bowie and beat them 39 to 20. I think this game with Alto will be a good, close game.
  5. AND IF I WERE YOU, I wouldn't put all my money on Alto either, my friend. We'll see what happens. GO, HAWKS!!!!!!!!!!! :happy65: :happy65: :happy65:
  6. Regarding Maud's "3", I'd like to see the faces of Grapeland's guys who have the extreme privilege of lining up against them on that first play and knowing what kind of punishment they're in for all night long. Yeah, it's going to be a long, long night for them. Tbis game may be closer than what a lot of people think. Let's put it this way. Maud will most definitely be meeting their toughest competition so far, HOWEVER, Maud will be out there to make sure their record for the season is going to continue to be the same..........no losses!!! GO, MAUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. Are you kidding, altojacket? You'd better watch out for those Hawkins boys!!! This is going to be their chance to prove something. Besides, this may be all of Hawkins for a while. I understand they have about twelve seniors on the team, and they want this win real bad. They'll most likely be giving you all you can handle. I'm still putting my money on the Hawkins team. We'll see what happens. I can, however, tell you they'll be tougher than your Joaquin game last week. I was there and saw that one!! Is your #33 still limping? Still having trouble with that ankle???
  8. You're right. Alto won, but you have to admit (if you were at the game) it was much closer than what the score indicated, and that's the reason they didn't impress me all that much. And they got a really good break toward to the end of the game with that fumble on the kickoff. Yes, the final score is what counts, but again Alto didn't impress me that much. And there's always the "breaks" that play a part. A couple of pretty quick kids, but not a whole lot of anything else outstanding. Their line was pretty good. It was, for the most part, a game of defense against defense. Didn't see anything outstanding on either offense. Again, that's MY opinion.
  9. This one will be a tight game, but I'm going to take Hawkins. Those boys will be fighting hard to take this one home. Somewhere around 21 to 17. VERY CLOSE.
  10. Grapeland vs Maud - MAUD by 4 touchdowns As I've mentioned on other threads, I don't think any other team can "take" Maud this year. GO, MAUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Maud has everything you need to go all the way, and I think this is their year!!! Cayuga vs Bowie - CAYUGA (This one will be close, but I pick Cayuga by 10 points in the end) I don't think Bowie has what it takes for Cayuga. I think Bowie is the under dog here. When they're hot they're hot, and when they're not, they're not. I think they're a team that's suffering from doubt at this point. They're wondering if they're good enough, and when you think that way, you don't win ball games. GO, CAYUGA!!!!!!!!!!! Alto vs Hawkins - I think just about everyone is picking Alto, but I'm going with Hawkins. Saw the Alto vs Jauquin game on Friday. Alto didn't impress me all that much. Sure, they have a couple of fast kids, but you can't depend on them alone. It takes a "team" effort to win ball games. I think Hawkins will give Alto a real good game. And, of course, it depends on the ref's, who gets the breaks, who's playing their best that particular night, etc. This one will be very close. GO, HAWKINS!!!!!!!!!!! I know that some of you will want to argue about these comments and that's fine. Just keep in mind this thread is for opinions, and these are mine.
  11. Maud by 4 touchdowns!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't think anyone can touch this team this year.
  12. QUOTE (rcshombre @ Nov 11 2008, 11:29 AM) Mount has to beat Grapeland in the first round and Maud in the second, then they have 10-0 Itasca staring them in the face in the third round to even have a chance. I think they can possibly beat all three (who have a combined 28-2 record) but it's going to be tough. Looking at the region, maybe Mount would've been better off losing to Tenaha, the Tigers have a much easier road (they play 8-2 Cayuga which will be tough), but then get 7-3 Simms Bowie and either 6-4 Dawson or 9-1 Bremond. This is a loaded region. Not even funny. By the way, how does Hawkins at 4-6 and Union Hill at 7-3 get a bye when a team like 9-1 Mount has to play 8-2 Grapeland or 8-2 Tenaha has to play 8-2 Cayuga? That doesn't seem fair. I thought the district champs got a first-round bye. Or is that just in basketball? ======================================= Per wildcatfootball......"It's a coin toss when the redistricting is done. By the way I don't think Union Hill is 7-3 or made the playoffs." ======================================= To wildcatfootball and rcshombre here's some info............... Union Hill 41 vs Fruitvale 0 Union Hill 19 vs Cumby 8 Union Hill 0 vs Carlise 56 Union Hill 0 vs Overton 35 Union Hill 0 vs Quinlan Boles 62 District: Union Hill 8 vs Detroit 6 Union Hill 0 vs Maud 60 Union Hill 20 vs Big Sandy 51 Union Hill 6 vs James Bowie 55 Union Hill 8 vs Hawkins 51 3 wins and 7 losses for the season............they're not in it.
  13. From the mouth of Vince Lombardi........ "Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing". "If winning isn't everything, why do they keep score?" "If you can accept losing you can't win. If you can walk you can run. No one is ever hurt. Hurt is in your mind". "Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence". "Show me a good loser, and I'll show you a loser". "Winning isn't everything, but the will to win is everything". I DON'T BELIEVE THERE'S ANY COACH OUT THERE THAT DOESN'T WANT TO WIN. FOR ALL YOU COACHES, HERE'S ANOTHER ONE FROM COACH LOMBARDI..................... "Coaches who can outline plays on a blackboard are a dime a dozen. The ones who win get inside their players and motivate". Just some things to think about.
  14. Congratulations, Hawks!!! :happy65: :happy65: :happy65:
