  1. Sulphur Springs first football game of the 2010 season will feature the return of Joey Florence with his Denton Ryan Raiders. Coach Flo got his start in coaching with the Wildcats as a wide eyed B team football coach at the Sulphur Springs Middle School under Coach Cameron some 18+ years ago. This is a game I would have loved to have seen the last two years but it will be interesting with a largely younger Wildcat squad being fielded next season. No doubt this will be a large test to see just how far the Cats will need to go as the season progresses.
  2. I saw the two penalties committed against our end that led to the two long scores but when you do the math we were still down by 1 even if those penatlies were called. Denison has a monster one two punch. The qb was huge and athletic. My view is two playoff heavyweights punched each other in the mouth over and over and in the end the better team this year won. I don't know if that proposed division II disrtict will ever see reality but I think having these two schools with the crowd followings and the recent history would make one heck of a in district rivalry. Good luck against Aledo next week.
  3. I had the crazy idea of going to the Garland DART train station and riding to SMU but it was gonna take an hour and the closest station to the stadium is 6 blocks away.
  4. Every town has one and if yours don't we'll let you have ours! :homer: DOH
  5. The beauty of it is we don't have to play that team from last year just Denison and while racking up 69 in a state title game was fun last year we are luckily only bound to win by 1 for it to count. We may not have the big names, but one game at a time and one point better than the other team gets it done every time.
  6. SS fans filled at least 3/4 of mesquite memorial home side last week. They'll show up although there are alot of schedule conflicts with the kids soccer league this week.
  7. Not as serious as origionally thought? Geesh Truefan, I would have rather you continued argueing aimlessly than have to read that! lol Just kidding, and the truth is we all let people get under our skin on here. No doubt Denison, Marshall and Sulphur Springs have great fans though and we all have a bond that is a passion for the game that should take presidence over the few loud mouths that care about themselves more than their communities good names.
  8. Am I the only one who sees this whole argument as growing a bit tired? Game? Saturday? 2:00? Anybody still remember that?
  9. This SS team got to feel the ultimate high last year and to alot of the critics the reasons they did are now laceing it up in college. This team at its core has alot to prove to themselves and the critics. I think that has alot to do with this playoff momentum they have going this year. Both teams have a chip on their shoulder of sorts and I have to believe that is gonna make for one intense game.
  10. Make no mistake. Denison is a good football team, they're on a roll, and don't think for a second they have forgotten who gave them their only loss a year ago. There will be nothing poor or little about this team or this game. It will be a dogfight and SS will have to match the intensity that a school with a state title and revenge on their minds will bring. It has all the makings of a classic.
  11. Just heard this from a coaches wife. If SMU hosts the conference championship the game will be a 7:00.
  12. Yea, I was hoping for a visit to Arlington myself but I guess geograpically this makes more sense Although if not Arlington why not Prim West again? Guess thats why they get paid the big bucks.
  13. Rematch from the third round of DII last year. How does this one end up. Personally I think SS will match up better with Denison than they did with Marshall. I see a barn burner decided on the last drive.
  14. These Sulphur Springs road whites are pretty sharp.
  15. Your right Lobos, I tried to talk them into throwing in the towel after we were spanked by the mighty Lobos. Whats the use in going on? Whats there to gain I said, we lost the only game against the only team that matters in the world. They wouldn't listen though and said the games were scheduled and money spent on all these other games. You know, they had fulfill commitments and silly stuff like that. I was furious at first, what disrespect we were showing to football royalty by not laying down. Funny thing happened though, they started winning. We moved on knowing there was nothing we could do about what happened in Longview three months ago. We qualified for this cool little tournament that the UIL holds every year and were thrilled to find out that losing to the Mighty Lobos wouldn't disqualify us. So with all due respect, because in all seriousness there is some great people and kids in Longview, we are gonna focus on our future. Try to focus on Frisco Liberty who deserves our respect too and just see how far this second chance after the fall will take us. Good luck to the Lobos. I still hope both teams repeat the feat and are playing on the final day of the season.
  16. We should be supportive of Friscofan even if his team was humiliated by the Boles eigth grade squad. After all he did choose us to win this Friday! I got your back Frisco!
  17. Heres a question. Does Pittsburgh even get Fox out of Dallas? I thought they got the Tyler/Longview tv feeds!
  18. Instead of getting into pre school discussions with someone who may or may not be from Frisco. I'd be curious to know what aspect of the SS game sticks out to everyone the most this year. I think i'm enjoying the fact that Coach Owens only apparent prerequisite for a game is having eleven men on the field. I love the tubbo and other wrinkles he has tinkered with. I could do without the two point conversions when they don't seem to make sense but even i'll admit he'd be a genious if they were working.
  19. On the way home from Corsicana I was listening to a scoreboard show on 105.7 out of Tyler. When the SS-University score was brought up the radio announcer was saying that every week he picks SS to lose and everyweek they prove him wrong. His colleague agreed and said its just like last year, nobody gave them a chance from week to week until they had the trophy. I think they prove the critics wrong again this week. I'll admit one of the critics of this team has been me because of being sloppy with penalties and turnovers. However, this version of the Cats seems to have reached back and found a little extra just like the 08 version. Playoffs appear to be when they shine the brightest. I think this game is close til halftime then adjustments put it away similar to last week. SS 35 FL 17
  20. SS vs. Frisco Liberty Friday 7:30 at Mesquite Memorial
  21. Do the words Paris and Poteet mean anything? Both were far inferior teams that were way closer than the final score indicated. SS can win this one and more, don't misunderstand. They just have to be the team that left no doubt against Lindale and not the team that struggled most of the season.
  22. The thing that pops out to me here is that WU beat a team they probably were picked not too. (Carter) SS as much as it pains me to say was embarrassed in all the games they played against teams where they were figured to be the lesser team. SS beat Lindale in a pressure game but don't tell me we were expected to lose that one no matter what trophy the Eagles put in there case the week before. SS has to perform on the big stage. That seems to be there problem. They can beat University, maybe they even should. It's up to the staff to find a way to calm nerves, reduce turnovers and penalties, and simply keep this team focused. Ultimately its up to the players to show up and make thereselves accountable to each other.
