  1. Greetings and Salutations SPORTS FANS. I didn't get to attend Saturday's game but I THOUGHT I would have 3 choices on listening to the game. As someone said earlier, Homers, BIG HOMERS, or IDIOTS. Well I tried HOMERS first, you could barely hear Larry Allen in the booth, sounded like they were 30 yards away from the microphone. Then it went COMPLETLY OUT so that left me having to choose between GILMER broadcast or Gilmer-Lover Broadcast on 105.7. Tried Gilmer broadcast a bit since I was already on the internet until I couldn't stand it anymore and reluctantly went out to my pickup and tuned in 105.7. Weren't near as bad as what they have been in the past so it was tolerable. Anyways, I'm not going to say what Carthage's problem was in the first half. Many of you KNOW what the problem was it just seems no one wants to admit it. But I've seen Coach Surratt work miracles before so I hope he can do it again this season. Speaking of season...ed. These DAWGS are pretty salty now. Everyone knows if you want to beat Carthage you had better do it EARLY in the season before Surratt and staff have these guys running like pistons in a V-8. His teams are like small snowballs at the beginning of the season rolling down a large mountain covered with snow. Once that snowball gets to the bottom of the mountain it's as big as a house and knocks anything in its way OUT of the way. Now that these DAWGS have seen what they are capable of it's going to be tough for anyone to beat them. 90 % of it is the overcoming one's self and the belief that you are giving it all you have and are not capable of anymore. In Scott Surratt's system then they start learning field work and technical skills of their respective positions. Towards the playoffs they start mastery of their skills. This is what set Coach Surratt's teams apart...in the playoffs they are playing at College level ball usually.
  2. WOW, you almost nailed in on the head CRAWFORD
  3. Funny as heck, listened to second half of game on KYKX and ole Porkskin Bob and other character are freaking morons aren't they?? Dudes got Gilmer bucknuts so far up their rectum He couldn't resist saying "AND GILMER WINS 55-37!" as they ended their program. Looks like the Buckeyes got a blackeye. Way to fight DAWGS. Coach Surratt, classy as always. Showing the Upshur Rurals how to be classy but it won't help In the long run. You should have just punched it in.
  4. Yeah, that's they way they spell REDNECK in Center. You know they lead the state with unsolved murder cases too? Because they are NO DENTAL records and everyone has the same DNA!!
  5. Don't you mean looking for your second cousin in the cornfield? We know you CENTER guys like donkeys too. You know what you get when you spell CENTER backwards right?? R-E-T-N-E-C
  6. Waco La Vega 32 Carthage 3 last I heard. Going to concentrate on my brisket now. May the Football gods be with you DAWGS.
  7. Yep. Great season DAWGS. But you got a tiger by the tail on this one. These boys are good!!! And the reason why no respectable OC wants to go to Texas. These should be TEXAS commits.
  8. I'm afraid La Vega has the better talent tonight. Let's hope Surratt can find a way to slow them down and get some points on the board at least.
  9. ACTUALLY, most of this was NOT shot in the town of Carthage. Most of it was shot in or around Bastrop, Texas. But there are a lot of cut-to scenes that are of Carthage. When Jack Black is seen in the first of the film driving and singing he is actually going through a strip of Bastrop on highway 21 that burned during the drought of 2009 I think it was. The Welcome to Carthage sign he goes by was PLANTED there for the film. Very good movie and very true to what actually occurred as well for the most part. I didn't know Bernie Tiede personally because I was a member of the Methodist Church out in Deadwood and I was away in the Marines by the time this took place in 1997-1998. But it was a real shocker to hear of Mrs. Nugent found in her deep freeze I assure you! I actually broke the news to about 5 area newspapers and news outlets of them about to start filming the movie when I stumbled on an article about Richard Linklater filming it soon. Lots of the people in the film posing to be people from Carthage were actually people from Carthage. Except for that crazy older blonde gal, that was Matthew McConaughey's Mother. Got to see the movie debut in Carthage Twin Cinema and two of the actors (our friends in town) that were in the movie actually stood up after the movie was over and answered questions and told about their experience making the movie. It was truly awesome to get to hear about the inner workings of Hollywood. Poor Danny Buck Davidson (The prosecutor) sure took a LOT of flack about looking so much like Matthew McConaughey. LOL. (He didn't). And Yes that "HANDS ON A HARDBODY" event was a real BIG deal in Longview for a few years, prolly until Danny Buck pulled that criminal roundup gig with it. But I do remember hearing about them arresting people at it one year.
  10. Because Smoaky wanted to advertise that the show is going to be on the air and he made a new thread.
  11. Well after just taking a look at Celina's schedule it looks to me as though the toughest team Celina has faced was Monohans and Monohans didn't really have that tough of a schedule other than Argyle...Snyder>>>>? So I think this game is a toss-up now.
  12. Now I'll buy that one. L.E. appeared to have a real good team this year. Good luck Buckeyes!! However, I know you guys lost your Head 'Mechanic' this year and once you lose him the bolts start rattling eventually.
  13. NOT a good reason. Everybody knows Carthage pre-district and Carthage playoffs are two different teams. It takes all season to get as good as Carthage is now. They don't win coming out of the gates like Gilmer has done in the past or as most good teams do unless they have a high amount of playoff veterans. Scott Surratt and Company make great teams out of what would otherwise be lukewarm at best because they can teach execution at a high level. But it takes time.
  14. Yeah heard their head coach Willie Williams say he's got the best secondary he's had in 33 years he's been there sounds pretty impressive too.
  15. You think this team is better than Silsbee? I think we have already played the best; I hope I'm right and you're wrong. But I think Carthage will win by more than 4 points for sure. There's only 2 things that could change that for me. #1 - The severity of injuries to a number of Carthage players last night and whether we lose several key players for this game (Because Surratt hasn't been able to play his backups as much this year as in years past to get them experience. #2 - Whether it is as close as you say and the offense turns the ball over more than 2 times on their end of the field. It's not harsh to say facts. I am saying that Coach Surratt Quaterbacks (Bogenshutz, Morgan, etc.) I don't remember them throwing interceptions in the playoffs. I may be wrong about that and my memory may be bad. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
  16. Okay. BUT...the 2-3 rounds they went deep were when they got out of that area I bet and got beat. I was looking at who they played and some of the teams they played played teams such as Brownwood and Gatesville. Brownwood made the playoffs but they didn't beat any good teams by much before they got beat out. I just think Coach Surratt when he gets a team to this point in a season their execution is very high professional and there just aren't many teams that can tread water with him. I've been to every single playoff game since losing to Liberty Hill in 2007. I'm telling you. The only uncharacteristic thing I have seen is the turnovers by the quarterback this time of year. It really SHOULD have cost us the win vs. Navasota but he's just that GOOD of a coach.
  17. Maybe the people talking about how BIG Waco La Vega is should have been at the Carthage/Silsbee game last night. You got NO idea. Their whole line was ENORMOUS and so was their quarterback. took 4 of our guys to tackle one of theirs. I don't think they come much bigger than Silsbee unless La Vega is doing some hefty recruiting. They also had a weak strength of schedule in my opinion. Unless you think the perennial powerhouse of China Spring is tough to bring down.
  18. I'm sorry to hear that Mr. Smoak. It's especially hard during the holidays, but you are a great legacy they left behind so they are always here with you.
  19. Was really looking forward to NOT having to play Argyle for a State Championship too! Good luck next year. This dance is addictive lol.
  20. Carthage rolls past Silsbee, 56-40 source: http://www.news-journal.com/news/2015/dec/05/carthage-rolls-past-silsbee-56-40/ TYLER — Carthage used a quick-strike offense and a stubborn defense to down Silsbee 56-40 and advance to the state football semifinal game for the sixth time in nine seasons under head coach Scott Surratt. The No. 2-ranked Bulldogs will take on unbeaten (14-0) Waco La Vega next weekend for the right to play for the 4A championship. Quarterback Jarod Blissett tied a school record held by three others with six touchdown passes. The senior finished the night with 21 completions in 32 attempts for 421 yards. Ravodney Hardy helped take up the slack at running back when sophomore Keaontay Ingram went down with an injury on his first carry of the night. Ingram sat out the remainder of the contest. Hardy rushed for 109 yards on 17 carries and scored a pair of touchdowns. Jakeldric Jackson was one of Blissett's favorite targets with three receptions for 109 yards and a touchdown. Hunter Townsend also hauled in three passes for 109 yards and a TD. Dee Bowens caught two passes for 90 yards and a pair of scores. Jarrod McLin had four catches for 39 yards. A massive throng of Bulldog supporters followed the team and were rewarded for the hour's drive by another exciting offense showing, much like the week prior when Carthage (11-3) upset top-ranked Navasota. The Dogs took a 21-14 halftime lead but the fireworks were just getting started. Silsbee took the second half kick-off and marched 70 yards in only five plays to cut the deficit to 21-20 after misfiring on the conversion attempt. It was at that point the game began to get away from the Tigers. Carthage answered the Silsbee score with a 72-yard march for a touchdown. Blissett tossed his fourth TD pass of the night to Bowens from 23 yards out. Rafael Hernandez, who was a perfect 8-for-8 on PATs, added the extra point to increase the Bulldogs' lead to 28-20 with 9:08 left in the third quarter. It appeared the Tigers would bounce right back on their next possession, driving from their 14-yard line to the Carthage 37 before being turned away on fourth-and-3. It didn't take the Dogs long to find the end zone again. On the first play from scrimmage, Blissett connected with Bowens on a 67-yard scoring strike and a 35-20 advantage with 6:28 remaining in the third quarter. The two powers then swapped turnovers as the Tigers fumbled on first down and Mekhi Colbert recovered for Carthage at the Silsbee 29. However, a Blissett pass was picked off in the end zone of the first play by Tiger defensive back Bruce Newton, giving his team the ball at the 20. Twelve plays and 80 yards later Silsbee scored on a 10-yard run by Adonis Thomas. The conversion kick was no good, leaving Carthage with a 35-26 lead with 3:25 to play in the third period. Carthage was forced to punt for the first time in the game on its next possession and Silsbee took over at the Bulldogs' 48. Yet, again, the defense stopped the Tigers on fourth-and-3 at the 41-yard line, returning the ball to the offense. More electricity followed as Hardy picked up 1-yard on first down and Blissett then hit Jackson on a 60-yard touchdown pass – his sixth TD throw of the contest – and Carthage held a 42-26 advantage with :49 left in the quarter. The Tigers turned a Carthage fumble into a touchdown early in the fourth period. Silsbee then recovered an onside kick at the Carthage 34-yard line. The Tigers drove to the Bulldogs' 13 and fumbled. McLin scooped up the ball and raced to the Silsbee 10. Four plays later Hardy scored on fourth down from the 1 and the matter was finally settled.
  21. Gilmer played them in 2009, Gilmer won 44-16. http://gilmerbuckeyes.blogspot.com/2009/11/gilmer-44-la-vega-16.html
