  1. Dees-snot, less than 10 posts qualifies you as a non-factor. Bullard +21 and most likely much more.
  2. My bad I meant to say Bullard +42.
  3. Bullard Girls had 7 of 8 top finishers at District last Monday. Bailee Callens is a 4 time regional qualifier and last yr went to State Meet. Don't discount these girls to make a run at a place for the State Meet. Coach Kendrick has a great group of young ladies who are learning to compete. Callens has several schools contacting her including a couple of D-1 schools. Good Luck at Humble this weekend.
  4. Schrader is alive and well and still coaching in Georgetown area. The eternal aussie. Great coach who cares about the overall health of the athletes. He coached my daughter for about a year and we saw huge improvements.
  5. I'll take that bet. You need to get out more often. Bullard by 21 at least.
  6. Just wanted to open an opportunity for the folks out there who support X/C in the area to give props to the local programs in the ET area who continue to represent our Region well. I, for one, have followed X/C for 4 or 5 years and am always impressed with the effort these kids give week in and week out. I've yet to see another sport with so much individual effort put forth as I have with these athletes. These guys and gals TRAIN constantly and usually the majority of their training is alone on a road or a trail without any crowd noise or props from the papers in the area. Not saying the other sports aren't committed but it certainly is a little easier to perform when you know the entire community plans their week around your Friday nite game (including painting their faces and other parts to support). If your a fan of these X/C kids or a parent you know exactly what I'm talking about. I know of several guys and gals from the area who have went on to run at D-1, D-2 and D-3 schools and not just been a part of the teams but really contributed. Just a few I can recall are: Cathyrn Loden//White Oak// Arizona State Gary Duncan//SH// ACU Heather Sterling//Canton//A&M Kate Mohr//Whitehouse//A&M Trey Knight//Hallsville//ACU Spenser Lynn//WhiteOak//ACU Jonathan Tijerina//Tatum//Baylor Mia Behm//Tyler area//U of Texas Amber Moore//Spring Hill//West Tx A & M Sara Bates//Palestine//U T Tyler I'm sure there are others in the area as well either running at college or have pending opportunities to do so. If you know of some of them or others I've missed take a minute and update post so we can give BIG props to them and their dedication. It's long overdue.
  7. What about Big Cat Ernie Ladd, Precious Paul Ellering, Paul Orndoff, The iron shiek, Buck Robey. Mid South was the best. I spent more hours than I'm proud of at the Municipal Auditorium Downtown S'port back in the day. Best Memory: Kabuki sprayed his "green mist" at Dick Murdock so Murdock gets a dip of snuff and spits it at him.....Classic. JYD was always the crowd fav. with his chains and Big Cat wasn't far behind. Pork chops Cash was another big time favorite. Fun times. Good memories. Thanks for bringing this one up. BTW< Did anyone mention Jake "The Snake" Roberts.?
  8. Children put things in perspective. Congrats.
  9. That my friend is settling for mediocrity. See above post #47. Lets strive for the top not just the district champ. When these kids get to college do we want them to be mediocre? Heck no. What about a job???? just a mediocre one. Get realistic, to compete is good to win is great. I want more for mine than that. Different folks have different goals and I understand that however just b/c your ok with competing don't encourage the rest to be content with that. Some of us have higher expectations for the blessings the Lord is trusting us with.
  10. I have to agree that is the easy way out. I want more than that for that school. Agree to disagree.
  11. Do you all really want to be known for winning b/c you got placed in a easier district? I believe you have to play the best to be the best. Teaching mediocrity is just preparing for an average existance. There are BIG TIME athletes at every school including yours and they have to encouraged, not begged to participate. When they do and excel at whatever the sport is.....watch out. It is proven day in and day out at smaller schools all over....i.e. Cayuga, Garrison, and yes even Gilmer. Gilmer hasn't always been what they are now. I don't buy the (next year an easier district scenerio) routine. Please help me understand why BISD can compete and go to Regional rounds in just about every sport EXCEPT the one that gets all the attention. Would you want the B-Ball team to move to an easier district next year just to get dusted at the regional tourney. NO Way. How about let's put it where it needs to be put and not bury our heads. I'm not that far off. You know what Keyshawn says.........COME ON MAN!!!!!!!!
  12. I disagree, he would be much better at Bullard. oops, did I say that out loud?
  13. Doing a great job ????? That is without a doubt in question. Would you agree that the AD should have a presence at other sporting events where his or her school is competing? Not all of them of course, but at least the "big" games. After all, what does the terms ATHLETIC DIRECTOR define? Or should it be called "football director"? Don't most AD"s not only show up but even root for the other than football programs at their schools? Do superintendents only attend board mtgs? No, they have an interest in ALL programs. They are paid to. So is an AD. What part has he played in the other sports? Couldn't have played much of a part and if he does have a role there it is strictly from a distance as I personally could count on one finger the times I have seen him at an event other than football and I don't miss many. My thoughts are based on last years baseball run, basketball playoff run, softball run, girl's volleyball run, girls track run, cross country run, see any common denominators here? Not even the common courtesy to attend district championship games, i.e. District track meet at Tatum where BISD was very well represented on both boys and girls fronts. Let me help you.......None of the above mentioned had anything to do with football. I'm ok with football being king however, let's also support the other programs at the school especially since they are the only ones prospering at the present time. This post isn't about busting on BISD's AD but you brought it up so.........Just sayin'
  14. answers to above 1. Have you looked at the budget? Where I live that is exactly the fact. And furthermore, is it really about the money. Economic conditions have ZERO effect on public schools. Robin Hood laws proved that in years past. When is the last time you saw a public school go out of business. Bonds pass daily all over East Texas. Get better at facts.. 2. Chauvanist (sp? you get the point) 3. When you are 3-25 in football with the coach being the AD does it really have an effect? Check out the East Texas district chairs in the area and I think you may surprise yourself. More than a few Baseball, and Basketball coaches chair thier districts but aren't afforded the op to AD> Reread the post and see that the best solution is sole possession of Athletic Director duties and authority over all athletics on campus to include....Football, Baseball, Basketball, Cheerleading, Band, Track, Badminton, pocket pool whatever just give one guy authority to oversee all as any other job allows. Don't be closed minded. Not all of us bleed football. I guarentee there are far more athletes on the next level due to other than football.
  15. Here's a silly thought.....How about hire an AD to be an AD instead of making the AD specialize??? If your an AD and a head football coach and your records is 3-55 do you fire yourself? Most would have sense enough to back away, however, if you hire a true AD (Like Lgv) then he or she has an unbiased opinion on what to do concerning coaching changes, facilities, distribution of booster funds, and a host of other decisions that no single person can handle solo. And don't go the direction of not enough $$$, look at the facilities that are being upgraded due to making good decisions with bond $$ from previous bond passage. I would be willing to bet that most schools who haven't been (robin-hooded) to death would be willing to give it a go. Thoughts? BTW< I agree, It's more than ridiculous for anybody to think a B-Ball coach couldn't AD. (per Football only)?!?!?
