  1. Feel free to go post in a baseball thread.
  2. How many of these boys are seniors? Who is returning next season?
  3. I'll keep it going... ...Everybody that's interested check the final TABC boys poll. Sabine's boys (36-5) finished the season at #4. They base the final rankings heavily on the teams playoff performance. 1. Ponder 2. New Waverly 3. Shallowater 4. Sabine Shallowater was very tall, but not all that fast. I have to think Sabine would have beaten them by a small margin, if they had been able to play against them in the Semi-finals. But, it wasn't meant to be. New Waverly beat Shallowater by 10.
  4. It's sad to think that this thread will die down now, after it has been circulating for so long. Good job to all 18-AA teams. I am looking forward to next year. By the way, anybody feel free to keep this going even during the spring/summer months.
  5. Yes. High School basketball DOES NEED a shot clock. Try to think of another rule that is enforced at the professional and collegiate level in basketball and yet doesn't even exist at the High School level. NBA has a 24 second shot clock. College basketball has a 35 second shot clock (they began with 45 seconds). 45 seconds would be good for High School basketball to adopt. This is the same principle behind the 10 second, and 5 second, and 3 second rules that are in place in basketball. Players are prompted to move around the court and play, by these rules. As far as the expense involved, think about the 25 second clock UIL added to football. Also, the mandatory Title 9 requirements for girls to have equal softball fields as boys baseball, and the new requirements for Science labs, etc. that UIL and the state of TX are now enforcing on High Schools across the state. They don't seem very concerned about the money these undertakings will cost the local districts. (I wish they would offer monetary help with these expenses!)b If a team wants to stall a game and slow it down they still could, but with a shot clock they cannot undermine the "spirit" of the rules of the game. Basketball is not a game for standing still. It was designed for players to run, shoot, pass, dribble, rebound, and so on. Limiting possessions for a superior team is one thing, but holding the ball for minutes on end with no basketball action taking place is another thing entirely. If a team cannot maneuver their players and the ball into a scoring position in 45 seconds then they need to give up basketball completely. Bad football teams can't hold the ball until the clock runs out. They must run a play every 25 seconds and punt back to the superior team.
  6. Congrats to Noah, Colton, Coach Davis, and all the Sabine Cardinals on their record season. Sports, you should be very proud. You raised a great kid and a heck of a ballplayer.
  7. Congratulations to Coach Boxell and the Ponder Lions. They deserve every bit of their state championship. Those kids play with discipline and intelligence. Blocking out was particularly impressive. Congrats!
  8. Will this be in the newspaper? Longview, etc?
  9. We need to play our best game of the year tomorrow. Fan support has been just GREAT. Everyone please come out tomorrow and yell for Sabine. The Cardinal players thrive off of that & even if you're not from Sabine, you can cheer for them too. Let's pack the gym even more than it was tonight!
  10. You are absolutely right about this. Franklin was in the driver's seat and then just totally crumbled in the fourth. New Waverly was very impressive athletically, however, Franklin just started turning the ball over and taking awful shots. Almost looked as if they were panicing out there. Sabine needs to play like the did against Newton and limit turnovers. They have a great shot. And I also agree with you about the officials being sub-par in that game.
  11. What an AWESOME game. The Sabine players all played their hearts out. Let's see some East Texas support at their game tomorrow afternoon!
  12. Ah, yes....the oh-so-intimidating floor slap...
  13. What are everyone's predictions for this game? Sabine needs A LOT of fans to come out and cheer for them at this game, even if you're not from Sabine. What do you know about Newton? I know Hardin-Jefferson beat them by 33 on January 9th & H-J only beat Sabine by 13, then by two points in the second meeting.
  14. I think a lot of the die-hard local fans are saying the same thing about how "it's too far" "it's a school night" "it's church night" All of those are true, but it's the 3rd round of the playoffs people! Where is the CARDINAL NATION when you need them??? Now is the time to carpool with your friends. Just find a way to get to the game in Corsicana. I will be driving farther than anyone to see this game. All the way from the Houston area. I hope everyone supports this group. This is a special team.
  15. Ponder takes it. Rivercrest should give them a decent game though.
