We have grown quickly to become one of the largest, successful, and most respected "national" travel clubs in the country. The American Freedom now includes teams in Dallas/Ft. Worth, El Paso/Southern New Mexico, Colorado, and Oklahoma. We expect to add other AF programs in other regions soon, including teams in the East Texas/Northern Louisiana/Southwestern Arkansas. Most of our teams are coached by non-parent, experienced coaches, including former NCAA college and high school coaches. The American Freedom programs in other locations be announcing their tryouts separately on our AF organizational website at www.americanfreedomsoftball.com. The American Freedom is excited to announce former University of North Texas Associate Head Coach Rone Robinson has joined the program as the National Executive Director of Player Development and associate head coach of the American Freedom Gold (Soefje). Coach Robinson possesses more than six years of NCAA Div. I coaching experience at UNT and the University of Texas - Arlington. Coach Robinson also coached at the University of Texas - Dallas. Coach Robinson will work directly with all American Freedom players in all age groups in all locations to teach elite and fundamental skills, hitting, and game strategy to prepare all AF players to become recruitable, college-bound athletes. Coach Robinson also will assist directly with recruiting in the older age groups. We have achieved our successes because we were founded on one simple principle different from most national clubs: "To compete as a national-level program committed to helping every player who remains committed to our philosophy get recruited to the 'right fit' for that player without regard to division of play." In short, we believe we can be successful at the national level AND remain loyal to our players. We remain committed to player development at all age groups. We also believe a club should focus on college recruiting that makes sense for our players and their families. Numerous players have come into the AF program from other travel teams, flourished, and now compete at the highest levels of college softball. Our AF alumnae have competed in the SEC, PAC-12, Big XII, American Athletic Conference, Conference USA, Sunbelt, WAC, Atlantic 10, Southland, Missouri Valley, Lone Star, Heartland, Great American, and other top conferences. In 2014 alone, more than 150 different NCAA Div. I and II college coaches watched our AF Gold, 16u, and 14u teams. Our model works. The American Freedom Gold (Soefje) recently finished 5th at the PGF Platinum National Championships in California. The American Freedom Gold (Clay) also participated in the PGF Platinum National Championships. The American Freedom was among only a handful of teams nationally with two gold teams competing in the national tournament. Both of our DFW-area gold teams competed at Colorado Fireworks, and our Gold and 16u Futures teams competed at the Triple Crown/US National Championships in Georgia. The American Freedom program currently ranks 10th nationally on the Triple Crown/College Player Index (CPI), which tracks the nation's best travel clubs' actual placement of players in college softball programs during the last 5 years. The AF is among the youngest programs in the national Top 50. The AF Gold (Soefje) currently ranks No. 62 nationally on the Triple Crown/US National Rankings, which has become the sports' official BCS-type ranking system. The AF Gold (Soefje) ranks No. 2 overall in North Texas and No. 8 in Texas. All AF teams commit to competing at the top national/regional level appropriate for their age groups. Our AF teams annually earn berths and invitations to the nation's top national tournaments and college showcases, including PGF Nationals, Triple Crown Nationals, ASA Nationals, Colorado Fireworks (Super 64), Ronald McDonald, Arizona Fro-Show, Surf City, Top Gun, and others. Our own American Freedom Summer & Fall Exposure Invitationals have become two of the best college showcase events in the Southwest, featuring more than 24 top travel clubs from six different states competing at one, 4-field complex. More than 30 college coaches, including most of the region's top NCAA Div. I mid-majors, recruited the event. The American Freedom also has become a leader and innovator in hosting college clinics open to all players on all travel teams. Our AF/NCAA Div. I & II College Clinics have become two of the best events of their kind, featuring more than 25 college coaches and attracting more than 200 elite-level travel players from almost every major travel club in the Southwest. The American Freedom program also has become a regional leader in hosting on-campus, college round robins. Last year alone, our AF teams in the 14u, 16u, and 18u Gold age groups competed in on-campus round robins at Abilene Christian, Central Arkansas, Houston, Memphis, Midwestern State, Sam Houston State, Texas Tech, Tulsa, and West Texas A&M. 5. The American Freedom Fastpitch Softball Club proudly announces that Iyhia McKeel will serve as the head coach of the new 14u American Freedom (McKeel). Coach McKeel (formerly Iyhia McMichael) also will serve as a roving coach and special hitting instructor, and assist with recruiting for all American Freedom teams. We invite every 14u eligible player to take advantage of this extraordinary opportunity. All positions are open, including bracket pitching. Tryouts will be held Sunday, Aug. 23, from 9 a.m. to noon, at J.J. Pearce High School, 1600 Coit Road, Richardson, Texas. The Akron Racers of the National Pro Fastpitch League (NPF) drafted Coach McKeel No. 1 in the 2004 draft. She led the Racers to the 2005 NPF Championship and was named the MVP of the 2005 NPF All-Star Game. Coach McKeel also was named NPF Player of the Year in her 2004 rookie season. Coach McKeel is one of the most feared hitters to play in the NPF. During the 2005 season, McKeel hit .400 (62-155) with 12 doubles, three triples and 11 home runs. She drove in 35 runs, scored 56 times and stole 13 bases, posting a .684 slugging percentage and a .450 on-base percentage. In her 2004 rookie campaign, she won the NPF batting crown with a .349 average. Coach McKeel graduated in 2004 from Mississippi State University. She played four years for head coach Jay Miller, head coach of the United States National Team. Coach McKeel finished her collegiate career as a 2-time NFCA All American. She is the only player in history to earn SEC Athlete of the Year honors twice (2003 & 2004). She was a 3-time, 1st-team All SEC Team honoree. Coach McKeel was named one of the three finalists for the USA Softball Player of the year in 2004. Coach McKeel has served as an assistant coach for the University of Virginia and a graduate assistant at Stephen F. Austin University. Coach McKeel is the new head softball coach at new Wylie East High School. She previously served two seasons as the head coach at Wills Point High School. Unfortunately, Texas UIL rules prohibit all players who reside in the Wylie East High School boundaries or attend any middle school that feeds into Wyle East High School from participating in tryouts or playing with any American Freedom team. Coach McKeel has taken over our 14u program because she is 100 percent committed to the American Freedom's founding principle. An elite-level, college showcase program should be committed to the long-term development of players from within from 12u through 18u Gold. The American Freedom welcomes Coach McKeel to our program. If you are unable to attend this tryout, please contact us immediately. For more information, please call us.
