  1. Let's not get too excited just yet. Aledo has an outstanding team, but I'm thinking this year's winner comes from the south. If Aledo can put the clamps on Denison's quarterback they can win one more this year.
  2. I don't think SS can hang with Denison this year. Denison has too many offensive weapons IMHO. That said, I don't think it will be easy for the Yellowjackets.
  3. Sulphur Springs should have this one well in hand by halftime. The Liberty defense is vulnerable to either the run or the pass.
  4. Interesting matchup of two good teams, but I still like Denison to win.
  5. Wise counsel. I do believe both Marshall and Denison will win this week and Denison will beat the Mavs next week- but it won't be easy.
  6. The McKinney Boosters Club chartered a train to Paris in both '56 and '58. Fans drove about ten miles to catch the train in nearby Farmersville. More than 600 took the train in '56 and as thousand or so in '58. McKinney won both games.
  7. I remember stories circulating around McKinney at the time that local fans took Dallas and Ft. Worth bookies for over $1 million on the Breckenridge game. The Buckaroos were favored by 20. McKinney lost by 19. We had seven players on that team that got four year scholarships.
  8. I was a senior and played on a McKinney Lions team that took on undefeated Carthage in the AAA Quarter Finals at Rose Stadium, Tyler. When the smoke had cleared and the dust had settled, Carthage was still undefeated but lost a 12-12 game on penetrations, 3-2. The next week we got our clocks cleaned by one of the greatest high school teams of that period- the Breckenridge Buckaroos- in the frozen tundra of Amon Carter Stadium in Ft. Worth, 26-7. The next week in the state championship game Breckenridge humiliated Kingsville, 42-14. That Breckenridge team also defeated the 4A state champion Wichita Falls Coyotes and was voted the high school team of the century by the Ft. Worth Star Telegram. That Carthage game remains in my memory as the best game I ever played in during my high school career. Just reminiscing and wondering if ayone here is old enough to remember or might have played in that game?
  9. I guess it depends on your definition of pathetic. When a team averages 50 points a game, you have every right to expect more than four wins. McKinney up up 65 to Denison, 55 to Sherman and 69 to Highland Park. At least some of that disaster falls back on how well the team was coached and prepared. If, in fact, Lipka does not play this year I blame that on the coaches also. He was treated as a secondary receiver last season in favor of other receivers with nowhere near his talent. I believe Reyes could've and should've gotten more, much more, out of last year's team and McKinney should've allowed him to remain retired. One man's opinion..
  10. He came with the head coach two years ago. They're both equally pathetic.
  11. Last year's offense averaged 50 points a game and was beaten only by the worst McKinney defense in history. Unfortunately, that defense also gave up about 50 points a game. I'm not expecting much from this group, although QB Zach Lee and WR Matt Lipka will provide some excitement. Lee is the state's #2 rated drop back passer and has committed to LSU.
  12. There's no doubt the two best 4A teams in Texas played and you prevailed. You earned the right to be called "Champ" in every way.
  13. Indeed, anything can happen in a one game playoff format. McKinney North would be in Austin this week if the Texarkana series had been one game only. That's baseball.
  14. It's down to one game at a time now. Any fearless predictions out there?
