  1. GS was 3 points away from winning a tough district, and they are young. VERY young. Yall better RECOGNIZE. All Im saying.
  2. Looks like West Rusk almost got eaten by the gator before you crossed the creek. 38-35 FInal WR. GS should win the rest of their games and probably take at least one playoff game.
  3. Two former Grand Saline standout quarterbacks, John Scott and Zane Taylor were both killed in separate auto accidents less than a week apart. Scott, 36, who quarterbacked the Indians from 2000-2001 where he was all district and all-state baseball player, and play college baseball for Texas Wesleyan University, passed away when he was struck by an 18 wheeler while headed northbound on FM 14 north of Tyler. Scott's funeral was at Main Street Baptist Church in Grand Saline last week. Taylor, 19, who quarterbacked the Indians in 2018 to a 7-4 record and a trip to the Area Finals where he rushed for 1,800 yards and passed for 900 yards, died in an auto accident late Friday evening. Taylor was a student at Texas A&M University. No other details are known at this time. Please pray for a hurting community right now, A lot of broken hearts in GS.
  4. What are you talking about? The Mustangs have never lost a game!
  5. Quitman is probably going to a tough one just going off what I have seen. The only thing they have going for them is that they have some periods of winning tradition. However, the facilities are old and are in dire need of repair, the school has been shrinking in size, and Quitman is not in a growing area where people are going to move to, it is one of those "established" small towns. Quitman can win though, just going to take some time.
  6. They have had a Black Assistant coach for nearly 5 years. Helps with Basketball too. Nobody has said a word about that and all the Students liked him. GS is not as bad as people think.
  7. 85 applicants according to a school board member, looking to hire just after January.
  8. Ridge was not fired. He resigned. Per a very reliable source, GS is having some big time internal problems. That is all I will say or care to say. Too bad, things seemed to be looking up for GS.
  9. No, GS was never "whooped easy" by Winona. Even in the bad years, GS gave you guys a fight. Heck, a 1-9 GS team in 2011 rolled you guys and the GS QB was named Ford Built Tough Player of the Week and set the school record for passing yards in a game!
  10. Even though I graduated from GS, I don't really keep up with them but I do have friends from HS that still live in town. My Facebook feed was blowing about 2 weeks ago up with "this stupid town" and "someone is trying to kill our tradition again." Usually, coaches get fired due to lack of winning. Ridge took over a dumpster fire of a program that had lost it's identity. He endured two awful seasons in 13 and 14, where at one point, he was having to start the BACKUP JV QUARTERBACK because injuries were so bad. Then, he had a decent year where he went to the playoffs and won a share of the district title, something GS had not done since 1999-2000. Then GS got placed in 3A Division I and had two down years, but as soon as they got back to Division II what happens? Back to back winning records, back to back playoff appearances and a Bi-District Championship in a district that had some tough teams in it. I have no earthly idea why they would fire him. None whatsoever. Whatever it was, it had to be bad. Like they said earlier, whoever gets this job does inherit a team that was mainly sophs and juniors and had a good season that averaged 40 points a game through their first 6 games with a Soph QB. They also get some of the best facilities in Class AAA D2 among East Texas Schools. Turf is not even two years old, fieldhouse is really something from what I have been told. Any idea why on earth this happened?
  11. Grand Saline runs a shotgun spread and a lot of zone read and a pretty dangerous passing game. Alba runs a straight single back/power I formation and runs a lot of double tight as well. Its skill positions (GS) vs power guys (AG).
  12. 35-0 GS Final per score stream. GS is 6-1 and undefeated in district.
  13. 10 years ago, this would not even be a question of who would win this game, even as GS was sliding down into mediocrity they were at least going to hang 50 plus on Alba. (with a few notable exceptions). Times have changed. Last year was really close I heard. Thoughts?
  14. I mean, what happened in Quitman? GS went through the same thing. They went 1-9 in 2012, 0-10 in 2013 and 2014. They lost 32 straight games before Ridge got his system kicked in and then you saw steady but sure improvement. Won a share of the District title in 2015, took some steps back in 16 and 17 being in Division I and being the smallest school in the district and then rebounded last year to go two rounds deep. Hope Quitman rebounds.
  15. Yeah, they beat Blue Ridge in the Bi-District Round and lost to Newton in the Area Round. The tie was against Palmer, they started the game and played it a full quarter but could barely finish the first quarter before the lightening came in followed by a monsoon and so they had to cancel the game with the score 0-0.
  16. Still one of the nastiest rivalries in East Texas. Throw out the records. Who do you all have?
  17. Grand Saline was 7-4-1 last year. Last I checked that is a winning record.
  18. And I know what bad football is and GS isn't it either.
  19. Grand Saline is 2-1 and averaging 41 points per game with a Sophomore QB. If that is Bad, you have a very unreasonable standard for Good.
  20. Indians get back into the win column. GS led SR 44-6 at the half. GS plays at Troup next week.
