  1. pretty stout schedule for MV overall - The Rusk game seems a bit odd - that’s quite the drive - I’m not sure MV has ever played New Diana - Pottsboro is always a fun game with the road team winning each time so far, Glad to see ATL back in the Mix -The Final game of the season with Commerce may be a big game as far as playoff seeding is concerned
  2. I think we lose Pottsboro to Region 1- but otherwise remain the same
  3. Pewitt had a great team back In 98- Jimmy Wilkerson and several others
  4. So…A Sophomore just broke the rushing TD in a game record for the school- McGill was the record holder with 5.
  5. Looking forward to see the improvement from last week- MV forced a TON of turnovers but they couldn’t get the Offense moving. I’d like to see a sustained drive that ends with points!
  6. MV’s field turf as of this past Monday- will be ready to host Q-Ford next Friday night - Logo faces visitors side because next year they are switching home side to the visitors side and visitors side to the current home side- building new press box and stadium seating
  7. Purple Tigers hit the road for this scrimmage due to the field being not quite ready.
  8. MV did come home with a scrimmage victory over Caddo Mills - and Korden Johnson was / is the starting QB - he looks like a reincarnation or Brock Nellor in size , style, and speed - Just a sophomore- MV is in great hands at the QB spot and , unlike years past, has depth at the QB position- last year the lack of depth at QB was a killer - while you can’t rely upon scrimmage results - it is encouraging
  9. Band wagon fans left- they will be back after week 1 showing if MV wins big
  10. While I do not know the overall scrimmage results, what I have seen on a few highlights, MV’s defense looked really good. Maybe the best overall size I’ve seen along the front with Crazy good Linebackers - Secondary looked pretty good as well. Offense looked very good and certainly much further ahead than expected- Don’t know the QB but he looked the part and played well. MV will be speedy. O line looked impressive- looks to be another good year . If Caddo Mills is a top 20 team in 4A D2 then MV will be solid
  11. Please don’t misunderstand- I do listen to the show often- enjoy it as it helps get through the week. I’m actually liking the target off the back a bit
  12. One picked minneola over MV and in the same breathe said commerce could beat out MV for 4th
  13. Turf going in at MV - should be ready by week 1- thought I’d never see the day- After football season the new stands, press box and concessions will be built
  14. He’s just a SOPH as well- I’ve watched his Hudl - MV should be in good QB hands for the next 3 years- Quality arm , can run a little (not super fast at 4.8 ) got good size at 6’2 190lbs - Like I said should MV replace those 3 OLINE starters ( they return 2 starters) MV will have a special year- Top 3 in 5-3A will be tough - I think Commerce may just sneak in to that 4th spot this year - I’m ready for the season to start! Will be a Dog fight at the Top in this district with 3 regional contenders
  15. According to Dave Campbell - He’s on this list - he only played 8 games last year - hopefully our QB situation works out like we hope and can get him and “Boogie” the ball - Dawson Witherspoon is just a SOPH - played very well in a sub role last year behind McGill. https://www.kltv.com/story/31947958/mount-vernon-tigers/?outputType=amp
  16. MV will return both QB’s from last year ( both served in various ways ) one is a Sr the other a Jr. However Due to coaching changes, we now have two very accomplished sophomores- One 6’2” 190ish who looked really sharp at SFA’s camp this summer the other is Coach George’s son - Also had 3A’s returning reception leader moved back to MV after a year’s absence for his Sr year - MV receiving core is speedy with 4.4 40’s - Defense returns one of the best DL/LB in the state in Morris- plus several key contributors in their 3rd or 4th year starting on varsity - New OC comes from Plano and DC from Longview - Coaching staff as a whole come from higher classifications - I’m most interested to see if MV plays players both ways or stays within what Briles installed- the Oline is the biggest question mark
  17. MV will be better than most will anticipate- This region is pretty wide open- QB will not be a problem as it was at the end of last year- McGill will be hard to replace, but will have better than avg Running Game-Defensively MV will be better overall- Looking forward to a good year
  18. If I have any complaint around the last 4 years of the program this would be it- but keep in mind MV has played their really good underclassman on Varsity the last 4 years - move them back to JV and those records for the underclass squads are a different story
  19. I’m excited about this hire- look, I see the track record of him not staying places long (MV has a history of coaches not sticking around long anyway - 6 since 2010) as far as a losing UNT staff, that doesn’t bother me, look what that staff did and is doing in the HS ranks - I’m guessing most of the MV staff from the last few years will be gone- but I doubt MV goes back to the Slot T now- He certainly comes from a fantastic coaching tree- The MV community is supportive of their students and student athletes . Just my read. MV will be in good shape - The Defense will be stout - Offense has great weapons returning as well- We are a QB away from being right in the mix again- “something” tells me that QB will not be an issue . Looking forward to another good season in Tiger Country
