  1. I’ve hunted deer with a .270 for years, but I bought a .350 Legend a couple of years ago mainly to use as a brush gun because I couldn’t find a 30.30 that anyone was willing to part with. I’ve taken to carrying the .350 to my main stand because my longest shot there is about 95 yards, and it works great. No recoil and when I make a good shot, the deer hits the ground instantly and stays down.
  2. I’m guessing it’s probably got a lot to do with lack of continuity in the coaching staff. I can’t remember the last time they kept a HC more than 2 years. If their pay scale matches up with what they have spent on facilities over the 41 year history of their football program, I’m guessing that may have something to do with the continuity problem, as well as their lack of ability to attract great coaches. But I could be wrong.
  3. You’re never going to know all of the candidates. A lot of the names you hear will be rumors and speculation. I’m surprised we haven’t already seen Daniel Swaim’s name floated here.
  4. Waskom, EF, Paul Pewitt and Hemphill all dropping and Carlisle moving back up from D2. Gonna be some big changes in this division.
  5. Van Vleck. He’s very happy there. I don’t think Joaquin’s pay scale can match theirs. But he would be a great hire if the administration decided to hire from outside Joaquin ISD.
  6. Well deserved. I think he will do well. He’s going to uphold the new winning tradition in Timpson while carrying on a family legacy.
  7. There needs to be clear cut rules in place. States have different laws governing NIL, which gives some schools clear advantages in recruiting. I don’t have the least bit of a problem with players being able to capitalize on their athletic abilities. The schools and coaches are both benefiting big time. It’s definitely a period of change in college football.
  8. Seeing how that movie was set in Virginia, I’m guessing Groveton, Texas probably wasn’t the team portrayed. In addition, that Groveton wore black and gold uniforms, whereas the Groveton, Texas Indians wear red and white. However, the Groveton Virginia team had a nose guard that was meaner than a copperhead snake. Tru storie!
  9. Monday night board meeting postponed due to weather and road conditions, so they haven’t been able to formally accept Wade’s resignation yet.
  10. A lot of that is very likely true, especially for kids from out of state, which makes up the bulk of the portal entries since the retirement announcement came out. Kayden Proctor (LT from Iowa who had a very up and down freshman season) has also entered the portal. Caleb Downs is from Georgia and Isaiah Bond is from Florida I believe. Deboer is going to have to prove himself to recruits, but I don’t know that anyone will ever be able to recruit on a level with Saban, although Kirby Smart is giving it a go.
  11. DeBoer’s and Wommack’s jobs just got tougher. Caleb Downs is in the portal. I think he’s probably headed to UGA. That’s a huge loss on defense.
  12. Whoever takes over will have a pretty good standard to live up to. Wayne Gandy took over at Joaquin in 2002, and over 13 seasons amassed a 95-49 record, winning 4 district titles and one regional championship. That’s a .659 winning percentage. Wade Lawson took over in 2015 and over nine years went 59-25 and advanced to regional semis twice. He leaves with a winning percentage of .702. So you’re looking at a program that has gone 154-74 over the last 22 years. Yes there are programs in East Texas that have seen more success, and certainly ones just right down the road that have had bigger moments in recent years. But the standard is set. It has been proven that we can win, and whoever winds up being the next head coach here will be measured against that standard. I will be there to support him and the kids, and that’s what every member of the RAMNATION should do, regardless if they agree with the play calling or not.
  13. Joaquin has never run the flexbone. Under Coach Gandy we ran the double wing and it was very effective. The formation resembles the flexbone somewhat, but the playbook and blocking scheme isn’t even close.
  14. Maybe so, unless Nick Saban returns my call.
  15. For only the third time since the turn of the millennium, Joaquin ISD is looking for a new Boys AD/ head football coach. The Rams are coming off only their 3rd losing season of the last 20 years and have great facilities for a small school. Let the guessing games begin.
  16. Yall got the hardest working coach in the business.
  17. Top notch receiver in the Jaylen Waddle mold. Caught the now famous 4th and 31 pass to win the Iron Bowl. Among the fastest players on the BAMA team.
  18. I’m gonna give my thoughts on the names that keep getting thrown around as potential new BAMA head coach candidates. In no particular order: Kirby Smart. UGA is home for him. If he goes anywhere from there, it’s the NFL. Dan Lanning. I think he checks all the boxes, but he issued a statement today saying that he’s staying at Oregon. Steve Sarkisian. Probably my top pick, but I don’t think he’s leaving Texas. He has them on the cusp of greatness, and it’s a program that HE built. That’s hard to walk away from. Dabo Sweeney. I just don’t see him being the guy. He has refused to change as the sport has changed and it has shown up. Lane Kiffin. He’s built Ole Miss into the best program that they’ve been in many years, and he’s been vocal about the fact that they don’t have the resources to compete with the BAMAs of the world. Kalin Deboer. Guy has won everywhere he’s been and has built Washington into a title contender in just three years.
  19. I’m thinking this is going to happen pretty quickly: Greg Byrne, athletic director of The University of Alabama, released a statement on Twitter/X about the upcoming coaching search... "As with any coaching search, our goal is to be thorough, but expedient. Our ideal candidate will be strong in recruiting and relationship building, player development, excel in Xs and Os and have the overall ability to lead this historic program. There will be plenty of rumors out there during this process. Next time I talk publicly will be to announce our new coach. If you don't hear it from me, don't believe it. Roll Tide!" #Alabama #BamaBuilt #RollTideRoll #CrimsonTide #Bama #Tide #SECChampions #RollTide #AlabamaCrimsonTide
  20. That’s what I’m seeing. I’m thinking there was probably a lot of discussion going on behind the scenes before Saban made the announcement yesterday. The next couple of days are going to be very interesting.
  21. I just got off the phone with Greg Byrne. Jimbo is not on the list and will not be on the list.
  22. Due to the recruiting cycle and transfer portal, things will probably move quickly to try to keep the roster and recruiting class together. I like Dabo as a person, but his mentality towards the things that you have to do to be successful in college football today turns me off on him as a choice for this job. I also don’t see this being filled by a NFL coordinator. Alabama is not a stepping stone job. I do feel like Sark would be a great choice, but I just don’t see him leaving Texas for several reasons. My top two picks are Dan Lanning and Mike Norvell, although I don’t know if either of them would be interested in making a move. But it’s going to be interesting.
